Alchemy, Smithing, Enchanting

I've just started playing Skyrim - I'm at level 5 and having a blast in the Golden Claw quest.

Basically, I've been building up a Redguard dual wielding Ranger type. Three of my perks have been put towards one handed, one to light armor so far. Stealth is also on my agenda, as is potentially archery (though I've found I haven't used bows much just yet.)

I'm thinking I need a crafting skill to round things, but I'm curious as to which one to take. I'm curious to hear people's thoughts / opinions.

Which requires the least amount of perk investment to get decent results? Any pros / cons to picking on of thsoe over another? Is there anything that is going to hamper my ability to succeed later on if I ignore it? Where is a good place to get the required materials for any of the above and how do I get started on practicing? Most importantly - which is the most fun?

Thanks everyone!

Bump again.

I'm definitely interested in your opinions here! Don't get bogged down in threads about how magic is or isn't good.

Use all three. They synergize well.

Right now my character sounds a lot like yours. I am going up the Smithing and Enchanting trees. I'm picking enough Smithing to get Dragon Scale armor and enough Enchanting to be able to apply some decent enchants. I'm not going to max out either tree. I thought about Alchemy but decided not to. I think my next character will use Alchemy because it does look really useful.

If you plan on just using armor and weapons that you find, then Enchanting and Alchemy are your better choices. If you want to craft armor that could potentially be better than what you find, then Smithing is the way to go.

From the forum rules.

Bumping, or posting to bring your thread to the front is also considered spam here. If you have asked a question and it has not been answered, please be patient. If it falls to the third page or so, you may post to bring it forward once after several hours but doing so more than once will get your topic closed and a warning for spam.
