Alchemy table needs a new feature

Post » Mon Dec 05, 2011 11:15 am

I recently bought my first house in Skyrim, and added the alchemy table.

The table should have a ingredients storage box or cabinet to store all your ingredients. Then, when you go to craft, all ingredients in the storage box are available to use. This way, you don't have to keep storing and retrieving, storing and retrieving, every time you want to make some potions.

Without this seemingly simple addition to the table, you either have to pull out every ingredient from your nearby storage chest, craft, and store everything back; or go through your storage picking out the materials you want, which can be time consuming and tedious when you have a list of 100 ingredients stored.

I asked for this back in Oblivion, too. Seems like such an easy thing to implement, I am surprised it wasn't included in Skyrim.

Wow, an hour and no views even? Am I the only one who has this issue? Is there an obvious work around I am missing?

Would have been a good feature for the dedicated mage character to use and easy to include in the game.I just tend to collect and make potions as i go along.

I tend to be an ingredient hoarder. I'll pick up anything I find on the road, and bring it back to store it. I don't like to waste ingredients on their first attribute for potions I don't use. Or make 100 fire resistance potions that I only carry 2 around at a time for the occasional encounter where you need it. I'd rather keep those ingredients in storage, because I might be able to make a fire resistance/magika regen potion from it later.

So, when I need to make a few fire resistance potions, I either have to look through all my ingredients for the ones that can make it, then keep looking for others that I might have more stock on, and pick them out. Or just grab everything and need to put everything back later, which is a pain.

They made some good additions to the alchemy interface. This one just seems like it's an easy no-brainer. You just go in, click the table, and all your ingredients are like they are already in your inventory.

There is a apothecary satchel on the left side of the table, but you still have to store and retrieve them which is a pain. It would be much better if the table was directly linked to stored ingredients. The tedious design problems that plagued Oblivion have not been addressed. They have been so bizzy making the awesome Skyrim world they even forgot to include instructions on how to use the UI.

I would like the whole menu system to be remade it works fine when you have a few items but as you progress and gather trinkets potions and the panoply of a Hero it gets very tedious trawling through 100's of items. A lesson in Ergonomics would be fruitful investment for Bethesda and maybe next time the UI fiasco will just be a programmers nightmare and not a reality.

I would have replied earlier, but I was busy trying to sort out my ingredient store. You're right it would have been a really nice feature and I am wondering if it could be added as a patch.

I thought there might be a PC mod for it. Makes it even more crazy that it's not part of the game.

You know this issue is even more annoying given the fact that they DID put an ingredient satchel on the alchemy desk. Would it have been so hard to link it?

I made a post just like this. Except I said a chest next to potion lab and 2 next to enchanting lab in solitude.

Alchemy should have gotten a perk to make ingredients weightless.

I agree with you completely.
