Alchemy tips?

Post » Tue Oct 29, 2013 9:05 am

So I decided to make a character that has a heavy focus on Alchemy, this is my first time doing so. That being said, I'd really appreciate some helpful hints and tips. The character will be focusing more on poisons than potions, he will use no form of magic and no enchanting.

I've looked up some poisons already, but from what I understand the fear and frenzy poisons kind of blow (these were two of the poisons I was really looking forward to)

So if you have any tips on how to really use alchemy to my advantage (with a focus on poison), via play-style or something else, I'd really appreciate any help.

For poisons to be at their most deadly stage, you'll need to level up alchemy.

Blue Butterfly Wing and Blue Mountain Flower can level you up real fast at any level.

Yea Frenzy & Fear poisons are really confusing - they should be stronger to be honest. I'm not sure how high you can get them if you're using a 5 piece alchemy set & max perks. But it's worth a try I think.

Make sure you fish for ingredients - River Betty give you a nice damage multiplier for poisons and if you mix it with deathbell you get a slow effect.

I think that's the one that really increases in value by adding Giant's Toe.

It can, but more often than not, you'll have very little of the toe and an abundance of the other two.

The leveling of those poisons is really bad compared to their magical equivalents.

I haven't played Skyrim in almost a month. I haven't played using vanilla alchemy in almost a year. I can't remember having issue with it before that.

It sounds like he's roleplaying - using exploit loops kind of goes against that I think? Not sure up to him. It's more beneficial and realistic if you focus on 1 or 2 professions.

My Bosmer doesn't use magic so she's going down Alchemy - Archery - 1h - Light Armor - Smithing (up the right side to Dragon so I can get ebony improvements on my bows) - Alchemy (5/5 Alchemist and up to Concentrated poison + benefactor) Sneak - 5/5 Sneak and up right side ignoring left.

I hear you there. I also roleplay, but some people do use the loop. I took off what I have posted cause I realized after that this is the generals.

Most critical, just go to one of the ES wikis and get a list of ingredients and their effects. You don't have to buy the expensive stuff at first, cheap items like purple flowers and thistles will produce some pretty decent potions. Once you get richer, try the more expensive ones. Note that Giant's Toe will produce deceptively expensive potions due to certain effects being magnified by a factor of five compared to other ingredients. Want to make gobs of money? Combine Giant's Toe, Glow Dust, and Glowing Mushroom.

Salt Pile + Deathbell is an easy combo to get, and it makes a Slow poison that is both effective and expensive if you want to sell it.

I had a character focus on alchemy rather than adventuring. She made more money in 24 hours than some of my characters amassed in 100.

Luke - use the force!
Heheh... Poisons, huh?
I made a poison by accident yesterday.
It made up to level 36 run in fear, plus it hit them with 101 points poison damage.
Pretty cool. I might get more into poisons now (since I can apparently create better ones than the vanilla game).

Hey, here are a couple of good potions anyway, to help your Alchemy:
Spoiler

Glowing Mushroom + Blue Flower + Swamp Fungal Pod
Jazbay + Red Flower + Moon Sugar
Snowberries + Thistle Branch + Mudcrab Chitin

Note that most of these ingredients can be grown.
