Alduin and Snow-Throat- a theory

Post » Fri May 04, 2012 2:48 am

It's a bit too grandiose for me.

Almsivi is unique. The Blade's don't even come close. The Dovahkiin is just a dragon, of which there are many.

And if that's the definition of a dragonborn, then even by our strictest interpretations we've had enough of them to justify calling dragonborn common in comparison to the tribunal.

I don't understand your incredulity.

There's only one Almsivi. So, technically.

Saying the Dovahkiin is just a dragon is like saying a diamond is just a bunch of compressed carbon. Sure, Dovahkiin is just a dragon, but a dragon in a human's body. That's not "just a dragon."

The dovahkiin is just another mortal hero. Not a human. Maybe a human. Could be a Khajiit. It's not about being human or not. It's about the consequences of their actions. Sorry if that reductionism annoyed you.

I don't compltely understand this Dovahkiin exaltation. Maybe its because of Max Von Sydow and the cool Nord hat.

My guess is that typically when one shows up, they have a tendency to be real game changers and powerhouses in Tamriel, and ones we are semi-familiar with. The Dovahkiin has yet to really leave a large mark in comparison to some of his predecessors though.

Humanoid, is that better for you? Any way you put it, Dovahkiin is far from "just a dragon."

Huh? Dovahkiin stopped Alduin from eating the world and having time start all over again, how does that not compare?

Not even humanoid. Mortal.

Dovahkiin is an obscure hero. Like all MCs in TES fashion. He saved the world, but so did the Nerevarine, so did the CoC. All partly mythologized and eventually placed on the edges of memory.

When has a dragonborn presented itself in any form other than humanoid? Never. We only know what information is given to us here, so to assume that Dovahkiin could be any being with a soul when only beings with black souls have been Dragonborn in the past is a really huge stretch to say the least.

I really don't understand what you're even trying to say at this point. I'm just disagreeing with you're "just a dragon" interpretation of Dovahkiin, and now you're talking about Dovahkiin being an obscure hero.. which obviously makes Dovahkiin more than "just a dragon."

I had hoped the conversation had moved on from that semantic trifle, actually.

I originally wanted to critique the comparison of the Blades and Dovakiin to the Tribunal.

And everything that has been said since also proves that point. The Dovakiin is created, is a rarity, but isn't completely unique when you reduce it to its elements. A dragon's soul in a mortal body, caused by divine volition. There have been others, and there no reason why more won't come.

Unlike Almsivi, which I disagree being compared to pretty much anything at all.

If you're presuming I'm implying that the Dragonborn could be a deer, for example, then I think you've missed my point greatly.

I realize this, but when you go and compare it to Perrif and Tiber it all seems to pale in comparison, especially when someone comes along and says "Oh, you defeated Alduin? Well he may be back later to finish the job. A+ for buying time though." It was the first time in TES where I truly felt like I did a whole lotta nothin in the course of the MQ, which is why I wish they managed to tie in the Thalmor, the course of the civil war and the like into the MQ apart from the negotiations with the Greybeards. (Which was a part I liked.) I realize its all about being a obscure hero, but thus far it feels like being a Dragonborn has 0 relevance in Skyrim aside from Balgruuf and a few awestruck guards when you consider what his/her predecessors have done.

I think you're dismissing it as a much smaller event than it actually was.

Sure, Alduin may come back, but that's what he does. When the world is ready to be eaten, that's his job. The world wasn't ready to be eaten yet, so as was told by the prophecies, the only being that could prevent this from happening, Dovahkiin, manifested and defeated the world eater.

It's not like anyone else could have done this. Dovahkiin is the only one who can prevent Alduin from eating the world and starting time all over again.

One day, Alduin may return again to attempt to eat the world, but if the world isn't ready to be eaten, Dovahkiin will be there to defeat Alduin once more.

I don't know where you all are in the current discussion, but this meshes well with Chimere's letters. My numerology looks correct. There have been many other Tribunals.

Ysgramor even finds his mate in Veloth. Ysgramor's 500 or Thereabouts were frozen at Sarthaal and changed into dragons. The Velothi were cursed at Red Mtn and became Dunmer. These events joyously align in excellence.

We know both prophet kings were trees, thanks to breakthrough dating methods and comparable samples from Falinesti.

By the way, I think the Tower plot is co
Inf stoped at Adamant, and they'll take the series in a new direction, VI.

You didn't get the memo?

Let me sieve this through a name you can respect, considering I have none and enjoy the three-eyed company. Your ALMSIVI ate not special, you are not reading Chimeirea's pre-Skyrim letters correctly, but I have. Observe my last post correctly.

The All Flaggs are within hearing.

But really, your first revulsion was unbelief based on nothing more than "I wouldn't have said that." Of course you wouldn't, that's why I'm here.

I've thought about the implication of the Chimere letters. But my appraisals of Almsivi still remain the same.

There won't be another Almsivi. There being many Triads doesn't lessen each.

What makes you so sure of your own numerology, when everyone else is still thinking about it?

He/She may or may not be a Shezzarine. Or he/she may mantle him, which is the same thing. Or he/she may mantle Talos, who mantled/is partly Tiber Septim/Hjalti Early-Beard, who manlted Shezzar/Shor/Lorkhan. This is more confusing than it needs to be.

Ok, this isn't about ALMSIVI, this is about following a theme ALMSIVI were parcel of. History must appear to repeat itself, because it's copied from the same bits. Vivec copied his own life from other sources - other Tribunals. The narrative's simply going to repeat itself in other places. I don't even like to say repeat, because time's happening at once. One event didn't precede the other.

What makes you so sure of your own numerology, when everyone else is still thinking about it?
Nobody else is discussing it, and I covered my bases in my post. The characters are there. I was just the first to connect and share.

Most of these ideas aren't even mine, but they're likewise stolen from Pynchon, MK, Yeats, Borges, Theology, you guys, and PKD's Exegesis. Do I need to witness against myself, too?

I agree with all those things, actually.

Despite Triads being a distinct pattern, each iteration brings something new and distinct to the world. History copied into different shapes, but the copy as a whole is different and unique.
