Alduin appreciation thread

Post » Sat Jun 01, 2013 10:04 pm

From hence forth he did come.

Alduin, Firstborn of Akatosh we called!

Sundered from Aetherius, his home,

Shined his dark benevolence upon us all.

From the ancient frozen land,

Alduin Bane of Kings he is known.

The death of savage kings at hand,

Upon our eyes his holy throne.

And when we called forth for him,

Alduin, Son of Akatosh responded!

Arrogant mortal's pride did dim.

Treacherous heathens were so despondent.

Banished from realm by traitors!

Alduin the World Eater lay defeated.

Loyal Hevnoraak would not forsake our creator!

The crimes of savages would not be repeated!

From hence forth he did come once again!

Alduin, Firstborn of Akatosh is here!

The Elder Scrolls did portend.

The treacherous Nords have fear!

What are some of your fondest memories of our savior, Alduin? Perhaps it was when he saved you from the savage Imperial headsman? Or maybe it was when you met him graciously flying the land of Skyrim which is his, giving rise to his beautiful children? How do you worship Alduin, Son of Akatosh? Or perhaps mortal, you are a heretic. This is the perfect time to repent for your sins! Alduin is merciful! Alduin is great! Alduin will save Skyrim from it's bloody troubles! Praise be! Let us discuss the greatness of Alduin!

I enjoy watching Alduin resurrect his dragon brethren, though I've only seen it twice. Very entertaining, horrifying, and wondrous at the same time.

Alduin's existence is so weird to me. Especially in contrast to Auri-el. Do we have any definitive proof that Auri-El existed?

Why can't Alduin stay in the place he's supposed to be, according to the higher divine authority?

Also, "heretic" only applies to those who belong to your religion but hold deviant beliefs. Those who stand outside your religion entirely are just unbelievers.

Alduin is the only black dragon in Skyrim, and the only one with red eyes as well. Besides the legendary dragons, he's the best looking dragon in the whole game. But his power and battle prowess is significantly underwhelming, though he makes up for it with his sinister voice and his unique powers. Personally, I'd love to be able to call a meteor shower whenever I want.

Depends on what you find "definitive". All creation Myths are true. Akatosh is the 100 faced schizophrenic God for a reason.

Is Auri-El seperate? The Marukhati Selective attempted to separate Auri-El from Akatosh... it caused a major time gap in the First era, a Dragon Break. It's safe to assume he is.

I've been thinking about how you defeat Alduin and his black scales come off and underneath he's all golden. I wondered if he was Akatosh. but hell, I don't know.

It's certainly possible. Alduin could be Akatosh incarnate on Nirn. Defeating him likely sent him back to the Akatosh oversoul. Rather Alduin is the Son of Akatosh, aspect of Akatosh, or is Akatosh, are all essentially the same I think.

Well it was "golden" probably just as an affect.. like all the dragons. He's not Akatosh.. but he is just as much Akatosh as Auri-El is. But yeah Alduin is a part of the oversoul, and was reabsorbed when defeated.
