Alduin=Al-Doon? Al-Doo-In? Al-Doo? Al-Dwin?

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 4:31 am

Alright so I always thought about how our little world eater's name is pronounced correctly, as I would pronounce it "Al-Doon" for some reason. Obviously I need to know the correct pronunciation, so lets discuss! :read:

I say Al-dyew-in. I lay no claim to any knowledge on this at all though :P

[Edit] changed the spelling as it's how others are describing it, and it's the same as what I was going for (so that there's no confusion)

Both Al-Doo-In and Al-Dwin are correct depending on your accent and how fast you pronounce it. I preffer Al-Doo-In as it sounds like it fits the lore the best.

I always thought it was Al-dyew-in.

It would have to be spelled Aldeuin for it to be pronounced like that.

If it was spelled Aldeuin it would be pronounced Al-de-yoo-in

Maybe, but if you pronounce that fast you get the same word. The point was that the naked "du" doesn't suffice for the softer "dyew" sound. There has to be an "e" in there or some other additional vowel.

As a German I never asked myself that question - it's just Alduin, duh! :P

Al Doo Een, with the A as in Amish.

Im not seeing it (hearing it?)
Only if you say it slowly might it come out as "deyew", but im hearing "dyew" as "dew", pronouncing it as "Al-Doo-In" sounds to me the same as, for example, pronouncing stupid as stoopid

Yeah, it's a very subtle difference. I guess both versions are correct:
either Al - Doo - In or Al - Dyew - In.

I would go with Al-Dwin or All-dwin. I don't like the sound of Al-dyoo-in, sounds to bri-ish :)

I say Al-Doo-een.

It's how the chanting guys pronounced it at the Video Game Awards.

They say Alduin at about the 22 second marker in http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wJKoDd62KCM video.

No, you wouldn't. In most accents (not American usually though) things like "obtuse" are pronounced "ob-tyew-s"

Similar to Tatooine, for no specific reason, it just sounds better to me that way.
