Alduin invincible in sovngarde final battle

Post » Thu Jun 07, 2012 12:00 am

I just began the battle against Alduin in Sovngarde and I'm a level 50 with an enchanted daedric bow and daedric arrows that have a combined damage of 118 and they don't have any impact on Alduin at all. I also used my chain lightening staff and it has no effect either. I can't get close to Alduin because he can kill me in one breath even though my armor adds 31 health points to my health ring of 60 and my Galdur amulet of 30,

Also, the dragonrend shout doesn't force Alduin to land. I'm stuck here in what looks like it will be an eternal battle. My clear skies shout worked, but that's about it. Any ideas?

You have to use Dragonrend on Alduin, otherwise he is invincible.

When you are shouting it, are you aiming at him?

It's hard to tell if I am hitting him because he moves so quickly. Then again, I've battled with him for over an hour during which time he has killed me multiple times. I have to imagine that the shout must have at least nailed him once. Your answer begs a more specific question regarding Alduin's invincibility; does the dragonrend shout toggle his invincibility off permanently or does it only turn it off until the shout wears off?

Heres my question, did you go to the hall before fighting Alduin? Reason Im asking, is because when I went to Sovngarde, I faced Alduin before I got to hall, started fighting him then stopped because I remebered you needed the three heros first. So you might have encountered Alduin before you got to the hall instead of waiting till you recruited the three heros in the hall. If this makes sense... Bottom line you cant kill Alduin untill you get to the hall and recruit the three heros....

The three heroes are with me. They have no impact on Alduin either. The first time I fought Alduin I had one follower and a summoned dremora who served as decoys while I used the dragonrend shout and applied lightening shocks from a distance with my staff. I tried to employ the same tactic in Sovngarde but without success. Is there a way I can check Alduin's status through the command console? Maybe all I need to do is change a variable? I have no idea what command to use or how to find Alduin's status.

Mod has moved it.

As to the original question, if you have successfully hit Alduin with Dragonrend then he will be surrounded by a bluish glow. He may fly for a little, but he will come down to land. Once the glow wears off he is invulnerable again, and can fly again - so you need to Dragonrend him again. If you fire the shout and he doesn't glow then you missed.

Do not attack him unless he is on the ground, at which point he should be easy to hit. If he flying around, don't bother.

IIRC, you and the three heroes need to use dragonrend at the same time on him?

No, the three heroes don't use the dragonrend shout. Only the dragonborn uses it.

I faced him with heavy dragonbone armor, smithed up with some health enchants and anti-frost and fire enchants and a daedric smithed up sword. He really couldn't hurt me much in the air anyway (too much elemental protection) so once he got good and stationary, I'd hit him with dragonrend and then tear into him with my sword when he landed (like any dragon). He went down very fast.

I'm guessing you need more anti-elemental protection so you can wait him out?

Oh okay. I had just thought cause i'd thought I remembered them using it when you looked into the Elder Scroll so assumed that they used it there.

I done this last week.
Spoiler
When you use the dragonrend on a dragon any dragon you will know. The dragon will get enveloped by the spell and it forces it down.

Oh get over it ~_~... now it's not good enough that it gets posted in the right forum. Now it's a problem when you see it from the index. Just stay in the general forum and stop coming here with this crap >.<

He didn't. This was originally posted in General. People need to get their facts straight before they fuss at each other.

To make sure your Dragonrend hits, shout it at Alduin and if there's a ripple coming from him and he seems to be in a blue vortex then you've got him. Otherwise, if you're on PC you can use a console command to make Alduin killable if it's some glitch. I'm using 360 so I can't tell you which console command to use.

I'm sorta spoiled, I guess... but I'm actually kinda glad. Looks like I get to face Alduin a second time after completing Alduin's Bane. I haven't completed it yet, but I've tried it once and then eventually ran away after getting killed a couple times... and it was simply at the Throat of the World, not Sovngarde... and there were no "Three Heroes." I've been putting it off because I thought it was the end of the MQ... looks like it's not.

I'm sorry, I visit multiple sections. I like the Lore section and the Oblivion section and to get there, I have to get through all these spoilers. Instead of telling me to get over it, how about you don't post crap like this in the future?

Varus is right, this was originally in the general forum. But my point still stands though.
