Alduin The World Eater

Post » Sun Oct 09, 2011 7:00 am

So, According to all the wiki sites I have visited, Alduin is the Nordic perspective of the Imperial Akatosh (who you may remember from Oblivion as the most prominent deity in the Nine Divines) and the Altmers Auri-El (Who the Altmer believe defeated Lorkhan long ago and have since been guiding them that they may learn the steps needed to escape the mortal plane.)
Alduin is quite different to both, while he is seen as a saviour in Cyrodiil and a liberator in the Summerset Isles, he is seen as a destroyer in Skyrim, the myths portray him as a horrible rauaging firestorm that destroyed the last world to begin this one.

This thread was made to discuss how you guys think he will be involved in Skyrim, Why is he trying to destroy the world? How will we stop him? Discuss your theories and ideas below.

Lol I knew TWE was going to show up.

Why is Alduin described to be so evil in Skyrim, but so glorious in Cryodil, I don't understand!

From my understanding, Akatosh is simply the Imperial version of Alduin that the Imperials made up to keep both the Nords and the Elves happy, after all he is quite a prominent figure in all cultures.

The only way to save Nirn is to destroy Aludin, since Akatosh is good he will destroy himself. Sacrificing his life for the world he loved so much, but its even worse as his AI has become self-aware. He understands what he is doing but he still does it to save the denizens of Nirn (whose AI had also become self aware) from death.

And this will be you playing the game:

This will be you for the rest of your life: :cryvaultboy:

Of course I am! I am hungry and eating a world will satisfy me for a couple of days :D

OT: It's simple really. 2 different religions give 2 different names to the same entity. This is seen in real religion as well.

But it's worthwhile to note that the nature of the gods changes based on what people believe. The Imperial conception of Alduin is just as valid as the Nordic belief. Bit of a mind[censored], though.

Also, screw Akatosh! I wanna see some Shor action going on! This is [censored] Skyrim, Shor has to be number [censored] one. In fact, the ending better have it so that the Dovakiin pulls out his/her own heart and banishes Alduin back to being the earthbones again, just like what happened during the creation of Mundus!

That's correct, both religions are valid in their belief. Alduin/Akatosh is neither good nor bad. He's both the creator and harbinger of the Apocalypse.

Shor's dead, sort of. In a way. Kyne has got to be the best battle-wife for the job in hand.

He's not dead. He's missing. Hence his subtitle : Lorkhan, The Missing God
