Alduin wants to eat the world... what if we let him?

Post » Tue Feb 15, 2011 2:43 am

"only superficially resembles his counterpart in the Eight Divines."

And the 9 hardly resemble their sources. That whole religion is nothing but a feel good, all the aedra are super kewl and nice and stuff gods.

I think by "eating the world", they mean Alduin wants to burn every single living creature in sight so it's nothing more than a wasteland.

And thus starts the crossover between the TES and Fallout universes :bonk:

So you're saying "Guys, the Gods said we're all supposed to die, just sit there and let it happen kay?"

...You do realize no rational person is going to go for that right?

In fact, only a few people are rational, only a small fraction of those rational people feel responsible for the faith of the world, and only a tiny fraction of them are brave enough to actually do something.

Actually Alduin is a Tyranid. He was made for one purpose... Consuming everything...

Aha! Alduin is to Akatosh as Jyggalag is to Sheogorath.

Why are we trying to kill him when in OB we were helping him get down here? explain that Beth...

or Jyggalag is Alduin... And we released him.

Crazy thought: at the end of the main quest, Alduin kills you and then eats the world.

Very unlikely though, nobody likes to finish the main storyline of a game and then can't play that character anymore unless you had the forethought to create a separate save file.

how does he plan on eating the world, sure he's big but apparently not too big to kill and if he's not too big to kill then he can't be big enough to eat the world, if he were than we wouldn't have a chance. However if he suddenly turned into a cartoon character he can stretch his mouth to be big enough, then we'd be out of luck.

All this talk of "forging" elder scrolls...

You do realize that the Elder Scrolls are not just mere pieces of parchment with scribblings on them, right? These are arcane pieces of magic that are interwoven into the very essence of time itself. They always are changing until the event they foretell is past. They will probably foretell of attempts to tamper with them.

To tamper with them, you'd have to screw around with Time itself. And the results of that are always very conspicuous to the Scrolls.

They should have a cinematic when you fail the end quest then morph it into a prophetic dream on the epic reload of the previous save.

Now wait. I'm just starting to learn TES lore, and it says Alduin is believed to be the harbringer of the apocalypse? Wasn't it Alduin(Akatosh) who defended Tamriel last time...? Why would he go through all that then eat the world? I'm currently reading how Arkay summoned Akatosh to eat away at the Nordic populations' age?

Wait what? Hurhur. I don'tgeddit. I thought the Aedra wanted to preserve Tamriel.

Alduin and Akatosh are as different as Zeus and Jupiter. Just look at how the Greeks saw Zeus, and then look at the Roman vision of Jupiter. They are pretty much the same thing, but there are differences between their cultures. Romans are more warlike, and so their gods come across as more violent and warlike as well, compared to the Greeks who value science and philosophy more than the Romans.

In Skyrim, Alduin and Akatosh are the same entity. The Dragon God. Of Time or something. The Imperials regard him as a dragon, although symbolically he is a two headed dragon man so he can match the other humanoid Aedra depictions. The Nords also regard him as a dragon, but a full-fledged primal and bestial one. The Nords have good reason to fear Alduin, who hates Lorkhan/Shor, the creator of man and one of the gods they worship. Legend says that Alduin will eat the world. Imperials try to be fair to their Elven friends who worship Auri-El, and do not vilify Akatosh, but rather turn him into a symbolic figurehead of the empire to relate his Dragon symbolism to the Dragonborn emperors. Their consideration for elves is also why Shezarr/Lorkhan ceased being an object of worship. Elves hate him. Considering Akatosh is the god of time, the Imperials, like the Nords, would also believe that he is the end of all things, though in a much more figurative sense than the very specific Nord belief about eating the world.

Guess we know who had it right now...
