Alexander at the 188 seems to not restock for me.

Post » Thu Jun 14, 2012 2:19 am

He has been on 108 caps since I 1st found and traded with him some 20 hours in game ago. Also a few vendors such as cliff briscko and chet I think still have the stuff I 1st sold them and is not getting new stuff. Anyway I can fix this? on X360 btw.

Those guys generally don't restock.

A potential fix? I play on PC, but if you save a file where you're looking DIRECTLY at the person and have them highlighted, completely shut off your system, then load back up that save, that often works for PC.
The trick behind it is that the game somehow reloads the cell differently if you start there, and it forces a refresh on the character. Dunno if it'd work for Xbox though.

That's interesting, I'll definitely try that out. I'm on the PC and I've often been annoyed at those vendors that don't restock.

Well don't vendors restock every three days? 20hrs is not going to get it done. I don't think I've seen issues with him.

Lots of vendors have stopped restocking for me:

Alexander
Blake
Mick
Ralph
that Legion caravan guy
Contreras

I'm going to try this fix on 360 tonight. It's a huge pain to sell off all of my extra equipment when a third of the vendors don't have caps

Yeah I hate when vendors stop restocking for me. This one trader is stuck in front of Novac with some brotherhood PA that I sold him to. Thinking of killing him for that PA so I can repair my set. Also Dixon doesn't restock anymore either. Also the Garrett twins won't start making Rum & Nuka and Absinthe for me. Maybe i'll try that restarting the game while facing the vendor thing. See if that works.

They're supposed to, but a lot of people (including myself) have experienced bugs where they won't restock. It happens with Alexander almost all the time in my games.

In my current game, I killed off the Van Graffs
Spoiler
by letting the bomber inside to blow them up while doing Birds of a Feather.
The Vendortron at Gun Runners is supposed to start selling energy weapons and ammo if the Van Graffs die, but so far he hasn't got any for sale, and I killed the Van Graffs many, many game days ago.

I'll have to keep an eye out for Alexander restocking or not. I DID notice that Mick and Ralph seem to have forgotten to buy things since they had a combined 500 caps last night.

This has actually worked for me, though you shouldn't require a complete system shutdown for PC - just exit and restart the program. And for smaller indoor shops (like Mick and Ralph's) you won't need to create a new save if you have it set to auto-save when you enter a new cell, just loading up that auto-save after a program restart works fine.

Hopefully a similar solution will work for you console players, otherwise hand loading ammunition really stinks. It gets annoying having to save-exit-restart-load just to get some reloading supplies and/or ammunition to appear at Gunrunners.

I tried(on 360) saving in front of Alexander at 188 and restarting and it did not restock his inventory or caps.

He was walking when I traded with him and went to a bedroll to sleep after I loaded my save and checked with him so I'm still somewhat optimistic this will still work. I'll try again with a stationary vendor soon

After trying to get Alexander to restock, I tried Blake. I tried saving with Blake right in front of me, then loading up and talking to him again with no restocking.

Today I was selling off nearly a ton of extra stuff. I ran out of major vendors and decide to double-back and stock up on ammo from the vendors I had already hit. After clearing out the Vendortron of ammo I wanted I went to the 188 and Alexander had restocked 5000 caps(unfortunately I don't remember how much I had bought from the vendortron).

I also bought stuff from Mick, Ralph, the Boomer ammo vendor, and Blake to see if getting them caps would get them to restock. I will report any restocking I find.

Are you guys saving and then immediately reloading, or are you shutting down and restarting your console before starting from that save? If I simply save and reload on PC, the vendor stock doesn't seem to change at all - I have to actually close out the program before loading the save in order for their inventory to refresh.

I save and then quit the game completely. Like go back to my desktop and stuff. It worked with Dixon. He stocked back up with his jet and whiskey. But it didn't work with this trader that was stuck in front of Novac.

Yea, I've read that he (the "roaming" trader that gets stuck outside Novac) never refreshes his inventory no matter what. He does seem to restock a few of the common types of shell casings though, if you need them for reloading.

I had this trader stay in Nipton and not restock. I recently did parts of Boone's quests and he headed out of town. I did the Booted quest and slaughtered Cottonwood Cove, when I came back he started along going his way

On another note: after buying ammo(and other stuff) from Mick, Ralph, the Boomer vendor, and Blake then saving, shutting down, reloading, doing some other stuff, then checking back with them, none of them had restocked caps.

Also Calamity no longer has caps. WTF

Merchants are still only supposed to restock once every 3 game-days (maybe certain merchants have slightly different schedules than that though?) Saving and reloading will only refresh their inventory if it's supposed to have already reset. Leave the area and either play, wait, or sleep for 3 days and then go check them again. If their inventory is still the same as before, do the save-exit-restart-load dance and see if it refreshes.

I had waited 3 days(actually over a week) before trying to trade with any of the vendors.

I have a circuit I take around the Mojave of places with Fiends/Vipers/etc I can slaughter for equipment to sell. I did one tour after waiting 3 days for enemies to respawn, then waited 3 more days and did another tour before repairing everything and selling it off to vendors.
