Alien Isolation REVIEWED HORRIBLY.. now...

Post » Tue Oct 07, 2014 7:57 pm

Now I hope that "The Evil Within" can pull its weight and come out with a steller game experience.

I know the marketing has been very back and forth with both Alien Isolation and The Evil Within... now that Alien isn't such a big deal as everyone thought it was going to be, I think it's critical now for the "Survival Horror genre" in general that "The Evil Within" does well... I'm worried, because if it DOESN'T, then it will be a set viewpoint for all publishers and developers that, "true horror" just doesn't sell well. Because everyone will be saying, "Look at these two games... they both came out next to each other, and they both blew chunks.

I really hope that's not what happens and that Shinji pulls through with this game, making it a successful horror.
I love horror... but if too many games that come out in the genre KEEP getting bad scores... the industry will notice.

Shinji.... here's hoping that this does well.

I'm sure it will do well. I've watched all the trailers and the reaction of people playing the game and I think it's going to be a real treat for horror fans. Can't wait!

That's why I am just a tiny bit worried.. Alien had the same reception. People playing it and being scared, and excitedly previewing it...

BUT, one thing I will say is that, in ALIEN, people only got to preview SURVIVAL MODE and never the story so much...

Thankfully Tango has let people play chapters 8 and 9, and Adam Sessler and a few others got to play Chapters 1-5, and Sessler says it's awesome, so, I have a good feeling. I just hope that feeling is right!! :D

Alien Isolation didn't review horribly.
It has been getting mostly very positive reviews.

But if you enjoy the game, what critics say doesn't matter anyway ;)

What Pluto says. Alien isolation is currently at 76 on metacritic, which is roughly 8 out of 10 if you put it that way. I hope you haven't just read what those morons at IGN said, and then just declared it gospel. IGN and informative reviews go together like bleach and stomach lining.

The bulk of Alien: Isolation's reviews have been positive. Yes, IGN gave it a low score... but in the review he openly complains because the game suggested he play on hard... and it was too difficult.
And, they complained that the alien's AI was too unpredictable.

Come on... really? The one feature they were hyping the most, the alien being unpredictable... is something they consider a negative. The game is long... and hard, and that's the total basis for then giving if a low score. And now, according to some, it's reviewed horribly. Wow.

I mean me personally.. I'm still getting Alien: ISOLATION just because, I'm a super alien fan, and I love that Sigourney Weaver came into the project. This will probably be the best Alien experience ever.. So I'm all for it myself. I think I'll love it. I really don't know why IGN and Gamespot reviewed it the way they did... probably because they got destroyed on HARD difficulty, but... that's no reason to give a great game such a terrible number. I mean... people bust their butt on a game for over 3 years... and you take a couple of minutes out of your life to potentially try and downplay the work and dedication that a development team put into this game... I think Alien will be a cult classic... This is one game, 'for the fans'. :} I'm sure it'll be fantastic!

As for THE EVIL WITHIN... I already know PERSONALLY that I'll love it.. but I just want to see one of these games do good on the 'numbers', because personally... if it sells well, reviews well, and has a great reception, then more games like it will come out... people will see once again that, "Hey.. horror sells.. horror is good." And I'd personally love to see horror come back as strong as it did back in the days of Clock Tower, Resident Evil, Silent Hill.. and those good ol' days when... horror was just about as big as Call of Duty is now.

I wouldn't mind seeing Call of Duty disappear in a trade off for some really well developed Survival Horror titles.

I agree with everything you said, but that's a bizarre title. Anyway, this is gamespot and ign here, there will be money (or lack of) involved. Look at their cod scores. And their reviews don't make any sense, marking the game down for it's strongest points? Bunch of gimps.
You'd right regarding horror, it needs to get back to ps2 era levels, it's by far my favourite genre.

IGN is still a thing? I thought by now people realized it's all paid for and moved on. Humanity disappoints.

Honestly, the only thing I like about IGN... is Greg Miller. He's the only personality over there that I admire.

He keeps calling Evil Within "Garbage" on every occasion... All because he saw a 15 minutes demo at PAX East. (Key word: "Saw"... Not "Played").

I'm not sure I'm a fan of his, and I sure hope he won't review the game, because he seems to have already made his opinion on it.

I distinctively remember him saying (Paraphrased) "I guarantee you won't be playing more than two hours of this game" at a Podcast.

Well, he wasn't the only one... practically every person that saw Evil Within at PAX East said it looked pretty bad, but it wasn't the game's fault... it was the way it was presented and organized (at that event). They didn't have anyone there to 'tell' them what it was they were watching (gameplay and experience wise), they just kinda quietly let everyone in, pressed play... and then.. that was it. Bethesda's lack of presentation and commenting on the game left a bad feeling to all the press who watched it... felt like they weren't confident in their own game.

That was all turned around once gameplay came out finally. I'm sure the whole poop-fiasco at PAX spawned this decision, because AT FIRST Bethesda and Tango wanted to be super hush hush with this game... but after PAX, I'm sure they saw the outcome... and you don't want everyone to go around 'blowing turds' at your game. ...I don't think Greg personally is following this game as avidly as, say, me or you.. or anyone here obviously... so.. he's just naive of it.

I don't really know Greg as a 'reviewer'... but he does killer interviews with people and I love the chemistry he generally has around some folks.

I doubt he'd be the one reviewing the game, but I guess we'll know for sure soon!

Completely agree. I will not ever again read anything by IGN. IGN is terrible. I bought a game based on a praising review by them and the game just... well, it svcked.

Agreed.

IGN complained Alien: Isolation is too hard and that the alien was unpredictable. One, he openly says in the video the game suggests playing on Hard... then he yells that you shouldn't do that because the game is too hard.
Then complaining the alien is unpredictable, when that was a huge part of the marketing and point of the game. That the alien is supposed to be unpredictable.

Gamespot's review isn't any better.
Complaining because the player has to (and I'm being honest) open doors and walk everywhere. He openly calls walking an out-dated gameplay mechanic and complains about it about three times in the video. You walk everywhere. Idiots.

Well, it sure is nice to see on Steam all the reviewers giving Alien Isolation great reviews. Someone needs to buy IGN and shut it down that very day.

What a dilemma, most reviews give the game 7(ish) as a score. I normally wouldn't buy games based on what I read, observed and listened to on those reviews Alien: Isolation. It doesn't seem like a bad game, but neither was the new wolfenstein, which made me feel like I payed for a 30 dollar game. Half as much satisfaction due to my expectations. I don't think im going to get this game. Hopeful the same won't be said about The Evil Within, Shinji Mikami has more experience making survival horror games. I dont know what experience Creative assembly has other than making RTS (or whatever the hell they are) games.

But most reviews aren't giving it 7(ish) scores, the're giving it 8 or the equivelint. Not that it matters, since when was 7 a bad score?
Anyway it's not the scores, who cares, it's the garbage in the reviews that's the problem.

If you don't buy games that get review scores of 7 or slightly lower... I feel sorry for you.
You've missed out on some awesome, under-rated games.

I'm very focused on our final push before The Evil Within releases, but when things slow down, I'm looking forward to playing this. I listened to a podcast this morning discussing it and it sounds great.

Can't spell ignorant without ign.

Can't spell reaction without act.

I stopped checking out reviews for games a long time ago. The only reviewer/critic I will ever trust is myself.

As for reaction videos to games, half the time they are actors, the other half they are people that have never played a video game, let alone a horror game, in their life. So of course they would be scared... they have yet to be desensitised.

Apart from that, I think this game will do well  I know I'm looking forward to it.

the thing about ign is that they dont like it because they got told to play on hard if you read when you start the game it says { recommended playing} under hard and that i feel is wrong to do because people should be able to play a certain way to get feel for the game BEFORE tackling hard mode even if is considered normal for game,

as for the unpredictable AI i have to agree i rather have game with that rather than scripted AI, but save the unpredictable for hard mode give a scripted for normal and or easy mode so that you can at least get feel for the game..

but over all i totally agree with everyone ign seems to whine about stupidest things that would make the game more fun and but sega also shooted it self in the foot by taking things out the game that should been in the game and making a segmented game with dlcs

which begs the question why they did that to game that seems so good to people and fyi metacritic gave it 7.5= 75 which i feel is good score, i will get aliens for when they do game of the year edition, because as it stand playing game with disk locked things is like buying a car with no engine and brakes... so i will wait till they assemble the car fully

as for evil with in i have this on pre-order even before it got the fighting chance and the season pass added to the game so i know its going to be good since every choice can have repercussioons that can make or break your game..

and as stated yeah greg doesnt like the game because he just saw it when it was in the alpha stages/ beta of the game... he should be fired or giving warning about saying things like that based on trailers play

I feel sorry for you who play half ass games. Ive read and observed enough not be interested in this game, i don't have to play it. Nobody needs to waste there life on video games, especially something that isn't that good.

Indeed. I've been very disappointed with 'critically acclaimed' games this generation.
