Alien Swarm

Post » Sat Apr 03, 2010 9:07 am

I had fun with the game, beat it on Normal. However Solo Mode is an instant crash for me and the last two levels don't run well on my computer... Which is a little sad now that I think of it.

Overall a fun game though.

You're not the only one with issues. I can run L4D2 fine, and since I'm an admin on a server, I'm always spawning a bunch of crap and my frame rate is still playable on max settings. However, in TF2, performance is crap, and in Alien Swarm, performance drops drastically during combat.

I just tried out the offline practice and it's a very cool game. I can see this being a lot of fun with friends.

Fun game. Now we just need the modding community (ahehemmm) to add some more quality campaigns.

I wouldn't be surprised if Valve continue to support it and release more maps.

[EDIT]: Played a bit online with a friend there on the first level. Couldn't get past the hacking where you have to protect the tech. I couldn't figure out what I was supposed to do and he just kept getting overrun. Definitely need more players, but it's fun regardless.

Epic game. I've found that a combination of a Flamethrower and Med Packs are very effective for me. If anyone knows the second level, there's a part where you have to go down an elevator - I was the only one alive, so I popped out med packs, and spun my mouse around like crazy while firing the flame thrower. Somehow, I managed to complete the mission on Hard.

I'm playing with maxed settings and I'm on a laptop. I guess performance varies.

EDIT: I can't wait till someone releases a first-person mod. I mean, we know it's possible since on the 2nd (or was it 3rd? or 4th?) level you can take control of a turret and fire it in first person.

Open autoexec.cfg

bind "F10" "sv_cheats 1;firstperson;asw_hide_marine;asw_controls 0"

Added Steam name list to the original post, if I missed you just post to tell me your Steam name. I didn't go the "extra mile" trying to find people either, I just looked at posts and if I noticed people with their Steam name in their signature I added you, but I didn't go to profiles to see if people had it listed there.

Steam name: Lemunde

Do you think it might be worth starting a Steam group for this? I noticed when searching for games you could search for games from a group as well.

I agree with Suffca, I don't think a smaller Steam group would benefit us more than just going through the existing one.

Its a really nice game, especially considering the fact that its free :hehe:

Too bad they only released it with one campaign. I'm sure the community will do lots of cool stuff for it though.

First online game I joined I got kicked (didn't know that you have to 'deploy' the medkit in order to heal teammates) from an easy game, that's a first.

Not really my kind of game, but fun for a while, got some connection errors and in one server things where a bit lag-like and the camera spazzed out. But in another server things worked perfectly.
I would have liked gamepad support though.

PS. steam-account in my signature.

Really there's no excuse for them kicking you. There's a lot that's different about this game than your typical coop FPS. No one is going to start off an expert. Besides that it's just really bad form to kick someone because they're not very good.

It's set up well for community generated campaigns which is cool. I'm looking forward to seeing what people do with it.
