aliens are fallout lore

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 8:46 am

I predict it would be totally vague, or might take place not close to the capital. Or that the hero is not mention at all and just the event that occurs.

Then again Fallout 4 might take place in Miami and not mention anything about the previous game.

Again, it may or may not be canon.

It's in the game it's official as I have explained multiple times.

Of course it does. Such size that if it were to be small, the main story can easily overlap the event and act as it never occurs at all.

Your going in circles with this.

That assuming if Fallout 4 exist.

Which has about a 99.99% chance of existing with how much profit the game has made.

According to the Extra-Terrestrials article on Vault Wiki, The Shi Emperor apparently made reference to Extra-Terrestrials.

The Shi computer never specifies what it's referring to. Since the ET aliens are basically non existant at this point, in that there's only one encounter with them, and it's dead, it's more likely it was referring to the Wanamingoes, which are actually in San Fran on the tanker. It's important to note what Xeno actually means.

Main Entry: xen-
Variant(s): or xeno-
Function: combining form
Etymology: Late Latin, from Greek, from xenos stranger, guest, host
1 a: guest : foreigner b: that which is not the host
2 a: strange : foreign b: not being the host

http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/xeno

It doesn't necessarily mean alien. Without more input, one cannot state certainly that it was an ET they were referring to.

There are many people credited with contributing to FO2. I assure you that the wanamingos were not a product of a concerted effort from all of those people. I think Avellone's contributions were mostly limited to New Reno. I can't imagine that he created the wanamingos considering the fact that he obviously doesn't care for them and he couldn't even remember basic details about them (like the fact that they had a queen).

Considering how many things they wrote for the game, there's going to be huge amounts of data, and being that he's human, and not a computer, it's entirely possible for him to forget a detail here and there. In any case, since the bible was written while he was still at Black Isle, with not only his knowledge, but the design docs, and the other devs to confirm details with (which, I do recall he did so during the compilation of the bible on some subjects). So if Avellone says Wanamingoes are NOT aliens, and that they are forever dead, then in the Black Isle Fallout universe, that is exactly the case for them.

I really don't mind, then having a "Canon" version of the way things happened in FO1 coming into FO2. Just imagine all stuff they would have to do to make it "the same way as you left it" in FO1.

Which is based on personal feelings. If you don't personally consider Aliens as part of the Fallout universe that's cool it doesn't change the fact that they are in the game. Didn't I explain that in my second or third post on this topic? I hated SI and everything it stood for but that doesn't mean those events didn't happen.

Indeed I am.

And your personal feelings as well as my, are in effect. In the end, its usually that the many DLC would be over look and some may or may not take a toll in being part of the lore.

And that's why this isn't ever going to get anywhere. :) It is about personal feelings, as far as any of this is concerned. This whole topic was started because someone didn't like people "complaining" about the Mothership Zeta DLC. (Maybe I'm wrong, but that's been my interpretation.) Even if hypothetically everyone could agree that aliens "belong" in Fallout lore - it wouldn't change anything. You're still going to get people who aren't happy with that direction.

At best, the only concievable end result of this discussion is people saying "I don't like what Bethesda did with the existing canon," instead of "this doesn't fit the Fallout lore." Whether or not aliens qualify as "official" lore is, again, beside the point.

Not really I could care less about the alien DLC it doesn't do anything for me. It might be good it might not I don't know since haven't played it yet but I'm not exactly excited or replused by it.

It may or may not be overlooked like I stated before with it being on the Goty all it's doing is making the DLC officially part of the game. The Pitt is apart of the Fallout world now just like Rivet City is. Mothership Zeta is a part of the Fallout universe just like Raven Rock, TenPenny Tower, Andale etc.

Same boat, as DLC is just there for fun.

Part of the world, but still questionable if ever it would be part of the lore. Can still be overlook and such action there might never been mention again.

Also, well said nu_clear_day.

As far as them fitting Lore or not doesn't matter like I've been trying to explain for a while now. There officially in the game and are now 100% a part of the Fallout universe. Personally I don't care about them being in or not. Just explaining how they are now for better or worse part of the world.

Just because its "officially in" doesn't mean that it is/isn't canon or part of the Fallout Universe.

Same boat I don't care for the Alien DLC. Not in same boat in it as canon. That DLC jsut there for fun and extra content. Doubt it would be canon in the first place.

Quite so, but as said before, its usually that the main quest wins overall on it as the main lore. Everything may or may not be mention, or canon for that matter.

The Black Isle Fallout universe ended with Fallout 2. I don't think you understand the situation. Avellone didn't make wanamingos, the chess-playing radscorpion, talking deathclaws, or any of the other stuff that he wanted to delete/retcon. He had a lot of plans for Fallout 3, but none of those plans made it into a game and he bailed on the project before it was ultimately canceled. Even if Van Buren was finished and released, he wouldn't have had any say in the final cut. It doesn't seem fair to say that he has an authority to delete others' work from the universe because he was once the lead on a game that never came out. He had that authority, but he never got the chance to exercise it by releasing his own game.

Why not? O:A gives some more insight into General Chase and the Outcasts. The Pitt gives more detail about the Scourge. Broken Steel changes the main quest completely which might affect the next game. These DLCs are in the final version of Fallout 3 meaning there a part of the Fallout universe I don't get what's hard to grasp about that.

The fact that these event might not even existed into the next installment in the first place. Or some of these event never occurs/too small for acknowledgment of the event.

It's going to give more info about Aliens which will be used if there are more interaction with them in future games so why wouldn't it be cannon?

Everything may or may not be mention, or canon for that matter.

So your basing everything off what they state in Fallout 4 then? Like I stated earlier what if the next game takes place in Miami and never mentions any of the events of the previous games then are we to take that as stating the previous games never existed?

They could exist if Bethesda does something similar to what Bioware is doing with Mass Effect 2 and KOTOR 2 by having the decsions you made in the prequel affect the sequel.

Simple as that, the "hero" may or may not get abducts in the first place. Though quite a silly notion the Dev are making DLC base on Extra-Terrestrial to begin with.

If it's silly or not doesn't matter in the end. Like I explained before you might not get abducted but there is a Mothership Zeta.

Indeed.

Well that would piss everyone off wouldn't it and never fly. Don't you think that's bit of flawed thinking?

It'll lay groundwork for aliens in the fallout world so it's going to be canon.

Not really, no.

So let me get this straight your posting on a Fallout Forum and yet you don't like any of the games?

In my stand point, its ya that cannot admit ya wrong.

If you can give me a real explanation of how I'm wrong and prove it then I would admit to being wrong so far you haven't done that.
