All about Races

Before answering this poll and discussing your thoughts on the various races in the Elder Scrolls universe, I think it would be beneficial for everyone to look at this: http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:Races

It's a page from the UESP that outlines all the past and present races of Man, Mer and Beast in Elder Scrolls lore.

Here's my thoughts on races:

Favorite Race: Dunmer

Least Favorite Race: Bosmer

General Thoughts: I'd like to see all the races in question three added in future Elder Scrolls games, especially the Kothringi, Falmer and Maormer. Those three races seem really unique and cool to me. In terms of playability, I want all of them to be playable except the Sload and the Akaviri races. Although the Sload seem interesting, I think they'd be totally lame to play as. Just look at their http://images.uesp.net//9/91/Sload_big.jpg... Nobody's gonna want to play as that thing. My vision/prediction for the Elder Scrolls V is either a main questline that involves an Akaviri invasion of Skyrim or a Shivering Isles-esque expansion that lets the player travel to Akavir. I'd like to see the Akaviri races, but I don't think the player should be able to play as them. My answer to the fourth question is yes, I'd like to see mixed races. I know it would be hard to implement, but it would be really cool and would add a lot to the role playing aspect of the game. My main role play character has a Breton father and a Dunmer mother.

And finally, I didn't get to ask this in the polls because it only lets you have five questions, but are there any races you'd like to see removed from the playable list in future Elder Scrolls games?

Firstly, I must point out that there are several threads which discuss these types of things...favoirte races, least favorite, would you like new races added, and a mixed race thread. Many of these are al many pages dead, so I will play along.

I chose the Dunmer as my favorite, Altmer as least favoirte. I chose the Kothringi to appear as a playable race, although they are suspected to be extinct as none have been seen for many centuries.

Also, mixed races are not an extremely possible outcome.

As you may find in the lore, any races that engage in mixed race relationships, the child is born of the mothers races and bears aspects of the fathers appearance. Although, personally, I would love to create a cross between a Khajit and Argonian.

Orc is my favorite, Bosmer least favorite. I'd really like to see Falmer in the next game and they should be playable.

Favorite: Dunmer
Least Favorite: Orc
I would like to see the snow elf, Ape/Best Man and the Dwemer.

Edit: And the Tang Mo, as a playable race, that'd be sooo awesome.

Favorite = Dunmer
Least Favorite = Breton

I wouldn't mind seeing any/all of the races listed, as long as the rationale, lore consistency and plot aren't too contrived or inconsistent.

More than a new race, I'd rather see racial differentiation taken a few steps further with the existing playable races. I really want to feel like the race I play as will have an impact on the gameplay and/or storyline well into the end-game and post-mainquest.

Maybe some "sub-species" of the beast races would be fun.

My most favorite race would be the Imperials. My least favorite race would be the Argonians. As for an extra race, the Kothringi sounds good if I had to choose one. Although if I had a choice, I would choose all of them in the game. A mixture of races would be good.

My favorite race is Khajiiti, and my least favorite is Nord. If I had to see another race, it would be the Ka Po'Tun, because that means more cat people. No mixed races, though.

My favorite race is Dunmer, and my least favorite is Bosmer. If I had to see another race, it would be the Imga, because sound like Sasquatch.

Favorite race is Dunmers (specifically Dunmer from Vvardenfell with ash-voice). I don't like argonians, I just don't.

I think the sload and tsaesci should be included in ESV because they are mentioned a lot, have dealings with the people of Tamriel and are not an extinct race like Ayleids/Dwemer. However, I do not think they should be playable as the sload are bloated monstrosities and the Tsaesci are snake people with no legs. It would mean that bethesda would have to make unique mesh sets for all the armor for the two races, which should be left to modders IMHO. Also, since these races are not of the empire it would be hellish for gamesas to implement them into the normal game.

Making them playable should be left to modders as well.

My favorite race is the Dunmer, probably because they're culture is so interesting. My least favorite race by far is the Argonians. I don't know why, maybe because I hate lizards in real life, but I 've always hated the Argonians and my characters in both Morrowind and Oblivion are "lizard hunters". And I've always been fascinated by the Falmer and would love to learn more about them and see them added as a playable race, especially if TES V takes place in Skyrim.

My favorite race is the one I recently created. This time its bosmer. the one that hits my dislike is the one race i've never made a charater for, redguard. I just dont see them as spellcasters and thats what I like to make.

I would like the monkey men in a game but not as playable in there first showing.

There should be a "None" option for added races to the game to represent all possible opinions.

Breton's are my favorite for various reasons. I suppose Bosmer are my least favorite but is it based on lore, or what we like to play as?

If the new races are relevant to the setting, new races could be added. I don't think they should be playable.

Ohmes and ohmes-raht khajiits should be added to the playable races. No races should be removed.

You should also be able to mix races when creating a character... except for the beast races, they can't breed with men/mer or any other beast race.

The more I learn about the races of Tamriel, the less original they seem. I think they should elaborate more on the backgrounds/histories of the races (Imperials and Dunmer are very well-done). I mean, High Elves are the archetype of the "We Believe We're Better Than You." Elves, with their magic, long-lifespans, Arrogance, Political Power, and not letting the other races do much to effect their homeland.

most favorite Altmer (duh)

least favorite dark elves.

I like to see the wild elves this time around taking revenge on all the imperials and slaughtering them all and burning the abominations they call cities.

and yes make them playable (dragon age style different starting areas !!!)

and why not mix races that would be nice as well.

Ever since Bethesda have turned the Bosmer into puerile [censored] in Morrowind, I have hated them. I can only naively hope that it won't be the same in ESV.

Life would dicatate, I like the Argonians. As for least favorite, it`s much harder to determine as each race adds something to the world of The Elder Scrolls - I went with Dark Elves but I don`t really feel anything negative towards them.

Now bringing in the Tsaesci is something I`ve said before and intend to say again. I find these to be the most interesting of the little known races. I`m just so intrigued by the description.

I like the argonians the most, altmer the least, followed by dunmer.

I'd like to see the sload, but not as a playable race. As half races, no. It already has been established there are none, and I don't want to see a cluster [censored] of half races. If you want one to be a half race, make a race and spice it up. Heck, I've made a dunmer that had green skin for the giggles, or that famous imperial-dunmer guy (imperial with really blue skin)

Another thing: I dislike basically every Merish race. Pelinal had the right idea for them.

On another topic, for playable races, I would enjoy being able to play as or see more Khajiit. Preferably Senches or Senche-Rahts. They are bad ass.

Races are so different from chapter to chapter... Which is why I did not vote, but here's which ones I like most in each chapter:

1) ARENA:
- Redguards. 2 of my 3 characters (a Ranger and an Assassin) are Redguards. That level / 3 as bonus to hit and damage with melee is a great racial treat that should never have gone.
- High Elves, for mages (yes, the paralysis immunity...).
- Dark Elves for an overall build (bonus to hit and damage with ANY weapon + fit well a Battlemage).

2) Daggerfall
Bugged - only High Elves matter, unless for aesthetic / role-play reasons.

3) Oblivion (I did not play Morrowind enough):
- Bretons, for any build. I like the way this race already starts gimped for Endurance and Strength, plus the 50% magic immunity. Actually, I kinda like the Breton physical features too.
- High Elves, if I want a challenging magic gameplay
I do not like the way Magicka boni are granted, as an early boost of the entire 50 / 100 points. A multiplier based on Intelligence would make it so much better...

In summary... If I had to choose ONE based on all my TES experiences, would have to be High Elf.

Depending on where the game is set I'd like to see many of those creatures as npcs but the only one I'd want playable are the Wild Elves because I can see them coming out of hiding now that the Empire is down.

I think people are going to vote Dunmer, simply because they where the first alien race to be fully explored. We should really not count that. Think about the potential lore to the other races.

My favourites would be the Nords. Just plain awesome. Based on some really interesting Earth culture and mythology, and they seem to be great noble people with a good sense of honour and morality. (Though they can hold a grudge for too long). They also seem to relfect all of what I like about Hircine. They like hunting, respect nature and have some amazing smithing skills. Perhaps not as durable as the Orcs, but definatly very stylised.

I don't like the Imperials. don't get me wrong, I love to hate them, and want them to remain, but I hate how they feel the need to ruin other cultures, and assimilate people into thier own. They destroy civilisations with no honour or mercy, and they cheat. Numidium. Who uses a "Brass God" to destroy all who opposes him? Rubbish. Regardless of Tiber Septim being a Nord, he stood for the Imperials and the Empire. I think of him as an Imperial. He's a cowardly honourless dictator.

I would imagine some people would not vote for the Dunmer because they were total racist jerks In Morrowind. I however, voted for them because I find them to be the most interesting out of all the races. Nords are a close second for reasons Hircine listed.
