Do all Altmer want to undo creation?

Hello,

I'm planning on creating an Altmer character in Skyrim shortly, so I've been doing some research on this race. However there is one big question that i can't find an answer to.

If I understand correctly, the Altmer think of themselves as descendants of gods, and blame Lorkhan for making them lose their divinity. And therefore seek to undo creation to become gods once more?

However is it all Altmer that share these beliefs, or is it only a Thalmor/Aldmeri Dominion thing? How do regular Altmer workers/peasants/etc. on Summerset Isles feel about this? And what about those Altmer exiled from the Isles, do they have similar religious views as Men?

Many thanks.

Just as not all Germans wanted to murder the Jewish people during WW2, I'm sure not all Altmer wish to undo reality.

I'm sure the Thalmor keep very strict control of information, I'm sure that the peasantry knows nothing of their plans, or if they do, they're too terrified to do anything about it. Or they don't care because the Thalmor can do no wrong, they did "save" the Summerset Isles from the Oblivion Crisis. There were factions within the Summerset Ilses, such as The Beautiful, who would never have agreed with the Thalmor's plans, but my bet is they were stamped out fairly quickly

Unknown. I kind of imagine them having very limited free speech in this regard though. In my head, I imagine that any disagreement with the ruling Thalmor is dealt with swiftly and harshly.

And what about those Altmer exiled from the Isles, do they have similar religious views as Men?

I think Altmer outside of the homeland have varied beliefs and philosophies. Some think like men, some agree with their kin in Summerset, and some just don't care that much.

I got the impression from history that the common person in medieval settings typically had more to worry about than philosophy and religion. It was the upper classes that had the free time to think and argue about otherworldly issues.

So, yeah. Your Altmer can have pretty much any philosophy you want, there isn't anything that suggests all Altmer must or do think the same way.
