All snow?

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 12:32 am

So I don't know much about skyrim (the place) other then it's Nordic and it's cold with snow.

So I want to know it's all snow? Or will the be deserts or jungles or what else their might be? Or just snow?

Thanks

This has got to be the fourth time I posted this.

Well to sum it up Skyrim isn't all snowy tundra with reasons that
A). Skyrim isn't all snow and ice and there could always be rectons to the lore which is not really needed because given that-
B ) Lore wise in the war of (1.) Bend'r-Mahk where the Nords waged war on the Red Guards land Hammerfel which is desert even in the northern areas which the red guards are still trying to reclaim the terratory there meaning that Skyrim should have in some places lands comparable to that of a arid landscape. In the same war the Nords also took over some of High Rock's lands which is generally fertile with a mild climate from the Britons increasing Skyrims own territory.

Afterall its not like all of Skyrim is all snow given as we all know that Nords being the conquering berserking vikings that we know and love has been expanding their territory for years. So yes Skyrim won't just be all snow and ice given that lore wise that is not the case further more the designers can always do what they have done for Cyrodiil and adjust the climate conditions there and do make changes as needed to make a interesting game.

I meant no offense against you I was simply stating with a bit too much rashness admittingly and was not intending it as a insult. Its a understandable question given that it is not the most well known setting as a result understandable if one is to assume that it would all snow.

My apologies.

I hate to bring WoW onto the elder scrolls forums (forgive me! :( ). But when Wrath of the lichking came out, alot of my wow friends were fearing to have the whole place covered with snow, but instead they got varied landscapes in different zones, but still the place managed to maintain the... icy island feeling

Its ok. Thanks again.

I didn't really think it would be all snow. It's just all I new about the land. I can't seem to find the search button on my iPhone for the forum. And I'm away from a real computer for a month. Sorry for asking the question, didn't realize it had been asked so many times.

Evergreen forests, vast frozen lakes, and rolling tundras with sparse shrubs sounds good to me.

If you believe people on the forums, it's nothing but snow. No people, nor buildings, nor trees, animals, dungeons. Not a thing, not even land underneath. Heck you don't even have AIR. The entire game consists of a continuously white screen with a UI pasted over it.

ahhh where snow is plenty you get some pretty awesome "spring" like environments too, wild flowers, gleaming SHINNY water that MOVES, insects and salmons jumping :P.

also underwater environments can be pretty magical in the icy north.

and don't forget mountains. that have the scale of a real mountain with deadly drops plz :)

Kamal probably has quite a bit more snow than Skyrim. And Atmora probably has even more, since it's said to be uninhabitable.

some deserts have snow on them. It simply means rain and snowfall is a rare occurrence. But no, Skyrim is not all snowy.

I doubt it will be all snow.
Think about latitude and differences in altitudes.

It wouldn't bother me if Skyrim was all snow, but I would like bigger castles and dungeons (some with like four levels and two basemants or something).

Think about it -- it's late at night, there is snow all around and on the horizon you see a firey glow; you see a castle jutting up out of a forest of dead trees. Inside you find undead, sorceors etc...I think that could be fun.

Alternatively, I think we will find areas in a 'summer' period, with pine trees and animals and stuff.

Honestly Bethesda is a AAA game company, they're not stupid enough to release a vast open world game with nothing but snowy mountains.

But what I'm afraid of is that everything will be COLD feeling. People have posted pictures of places in the real world that have both snowy mountains and greenery, but they all looked quite chilly. I think what all these threads are asking is, will there be warm, humid jungles (and like the OP said) blistering hot deserts as well as the snowy region?

It wouldn't make much sense to have jungles and deserts in Skyrim.

I agree, even though it's set in Skyrim i expect Bethesda will make the landscape varied with snowy mountains to dry plains. Having ONLY snow would surely make things boring to look at after a good while.

Bethesda has been known to stray far from previous perceptions of certain areas. Cyrodiil was supposed to be a huge jungle.
