All spells at 0% chance, even the 'always succeeds' ones

Post » Sat Apr 16, 2011 11:23 pm

A few days ago, I downloaded and installed some mods for the game, in addition to running TEStool to clean GMSTs from 3 mods I was currently using. When I loaded the game, everything was well... except that all my spells had a 0 chance of casting successfully. In the spellcasting menu, the normal success chance appears but in the game it is 0. However, my powers were unaffected and the 0 chance extended to auto-success spells like star-curse and Argonian water breathing. And I know it is not a factor of my skill level, fatigue level, amount of magicka, luck, or willpower, even consoling my stats to 100, so do not suggest that or your mom will become a fan of Twilight.

My other saves are unaffected by this, as are any new games that I start. The mods I cleaned the GMSTs from were 2 self-made mods that should not affect spells at wall and the Daedric Sorcery mod (allows one to go on a series of quests to summon the Daedra princes and receive quests from them). The 3 mods I installed were Gnisis Bridge, Antares' Big Mod 5, and the MCA patch for it. Using god mode works, but I would rather not spend the game as a boring invincible Nerevarine. Uninstalling the new mods did nothing to fix the problem.

I have never encountered this in my 8 years of playing Morrowind, and a google search does not give promising results. Shall I clean my saves? Panic?

never dealt with this, or even heard of it. But perhaps I can help you "trick" the ability back into operation. Try to use a potion to make your intellegence zero (sujamma for example). Then, theory is that when it wears off and your intel restores back from zero it should hopefully correct this. I dunno what to do about this but thought I'd toss this out there.

Gah, tried your idea but no luck. Thanks anyways. I also noticed that the specific save game I am talking about is not recognizing me not having certain items in my inventory or equipped. For example, I unequipped the Ring of Phynaster (adds poison, magicka, and shock resistance) and the effects where still there despite it being on the ground. Also, I have NOM 3.2 and I ate bread AFTER I dropped all the bread in my inventory. I wonder if these two glitches are related.

I'm far from an expert, but try backing up your save and cleaning it with wrye mash. It sounds like it could be save game corruption. Also, do previous saves still work? What about a new game?

Cleaned the game with Wyre Mash and it sadly did not fix the problem. Still, thanks for the idea. I am wondering if the problem has to do with the game instead of mods. I could backup my mods and saves and reinstall Morrowind, but I won't have access to the Tribunal and Bloodmoon CDs for a few more days. Any other suggestions?

It really does sound like a mod. I'll move this to the mods forum.

There's a hidden cast penalty stat that might have been corrupted. Try GetCastPenalty and SetCastPenalty 0 in the console. Also, barter with a vendor to refresh your inventory window properly. I don't know what it could be, except for corruption.

How about a silence spell/enchantment? Is it possible you had a silence spell/enchantment active on you from a mod, and you removed the mod? Making the changes permanent?

I don't know if this actually happens in Morrowind.

Tried that with the console, nothing came of it but I never knew a stat like that existed. Again

Thought of that actually, but I remembered that I had no silence attacks before hand. Before the glitch happened, I was doing some non-combat quests. I also looked around and used the console to remove any silence or sound effects, but the glitch remained.

I tried uninstalling the new mods and the altered mods, but that did not fix anything. During my Google search, I think I heard that the glitch resulted from using 'tgm' too many times, but I used it A LOT on older saved games and barely on this character. Also, the person who said this did not give any reason why, just speculation. Regardless, thanks for helping everyone.

Return to III - Morrowind
