To all the people upset about the lack of DirectX 11

Post » Thu Mar 31, 2011 3:25 am

I did a little research today, and found that not once, did Crytek say Crysis 2 would have DirectX 11. They stated however, that CryEngine 3 is capable of it. This is true. The only ones who said Crysis 2 had DirectX 11, was NVidia, back in January. 1 Month Later, when the beta leaked, Nvidia took the listing off of their website.

You weren't promised anything. Time to get over your entitlement issues.

Perhaps you could elaborate on how doing a little research has led you to conclude that Crytek -never- stated that Crysis 2 would have DX11. It seems to me that, in order to come to such a conclusion, one would have to read through every single press release on Crysis 2 since the game was officially announced, making sure that there is no mention by a Crytek employee of DX11 in Crysis 2. That, my friend, would take a -lot- of research. You probably didn't do that, right?

What -did- you do? If you want us to "get over our entitlement issues," you're going to have to at least cite your sources. How can you be sure that NVIDIA is the ONLY entity that advertised Crysis2 as a DX11 release? And, while you're at the research, perhaps you could find out where NVIDIA came by this erroneous information, why it was released to the public, and why Crytek allowed their game to be advertised as a DX11 title up until it was released and they made millions of dollars in profit, only removing the false advertising, what was it... last week?

Not to mention, if they never said it would have DX11, then why did NVidia give them $2 million dollars?

Whatever, you get more fps with dx9.

Dx11 won't make anything look much better unless there's better texture pack.

dx11 is ****.

This shows how Maya uses hardware tessellation to display the very same geometry at a much better frame rate:

I guess you must prefer more basic geometry and/or slower frame rates

Thank you and goodnight

It's not that you get less fps with DX11 you don't. In unigine Heaven you do get a frame rate hit because there is just so much geometry added by tessellation, however if you tried to display this much geometry without tessellation you'd probably get between 1 and 5 frames a second at best (maybe not even 1 frame a second).

Also this geometry is all added by the gpu the cpu from what I can tell is not a bottleneck at all in Unigine. So then surely there is no reason to assume that there is no room on the cpu for game logic or AI unless I am severely mistaken and the gpu is responsible for those things.

This shows how Maya uses hardware tessellation to display the very same geometry at a much better frame rate:

Thats some HEAVY FAILING you got going there pal:

"Crysis 2 will support DirectX 11 but we'll talk more about that in the future. There's an announcement coming soon about that."(Nathan Camarillo[reported by IGN])

It's not so much no DX 11...but no DX 10 ? !

Crysis 1 had DX 10...and there is a big difference just between DX9 and 10.

not really lol. DX10 isn't that BIG of a deal >_>

I think it's mainly the water and some particles in DX10 over DX9 but uhh.....not a big difference. DX11 is a BIG difference.

It just doesn't make much sense why it was released without even DX 10, even games like AvP and Metro 2033, STALKER CoP etc have DX 11...and they had no where near the impact a DX 11 Cryis release would have made. I mean low budget, semi off the chart games get more DX love then the company who is supposedly pushing PC graphics forward ! Come on get real!!!!!!......even many of my RTSs have DX 10!

IMHO Crytek blew it !

Of course fancier graphics are not going to hide a mediocre game.

It's also no POM. Which could even be done in DX9 according to the "why do you need DX11?" minority.

Wait and see, I do not have a lot of faith in Crytec or anything they say.
Their record of support for their games is short lived

We had 3 patchs for Crysis in the first few months and then nothing after that. we'll see

my understanding of how tesselation works is that it creates high geometry on the hard ware from a low geometry image, by doing this it can smooth out edges and give better detail, but hey I ain't no code monkey so

My question is, wasn't Crysis 1 DX9? It looks much better than this version, even in XP. One of my favorite games did not support DX9 and it died (few die-hards still play). They cut out XP by doing that. DX11 is fine and everything, but it's not a deal breaker. I am curious why DX10 isn't addressed more by Crytek?

Hey, Varxx helps people here, so go easy on him. And BTW, IGN was specifically cited by either Cry-Adam or Cry-Tom as not having any valid source for the statements they made about DX11 support coming 'soon'. Thread is too old to dig it up. Sorry. Anyway, I did see a statement somewhere that it is planned on in the next few months. EA rushed them on the game release so who knows what got left out of the game as originally planned.

Idiot. And you're most likely just happy because you couldn't run Crysis 2 if it was half the game of crysis

That's an issue NVIDIA has to take up with them if there is anything there. After all, that would be their word to NVIDIA, not us.
