All the provinces are in the game!

Post » Fri Dec 09, 2011 5:59 am

Picked this out on reddit.

It seems that Bethesda have for some reason have put in the other provinces of tamriel. It is easily accessible by no clip, this person has screenshots of red mountain, gold tower and claims that there are more than just those provinces.

My question is why did Bethesda put this in? Is it a placeholder for DLC? Why go through the effort?

I doubt it'll be for DLC or expansions. Simple reason, putting all the details (towns, terrain, high detail textures, mob spawns etc) would be a HUGE undertaking and would take so long, the next game will be here by then.

Instead, I think they've done it for a)those who manage to get out of the bordered areas, so they can at least look on interesting landscape and B)For those big mod teams that recrete the other provinces and spend ages on the terrain which isn't always an easy undertaking, at least some of the work is now done for them.

edit: What is there are the low detail distant textres and meshes and there'll also be gaps in the terrain where there's no collision.

yes but what im saying is thay ain't that its very low textured blurs and objects with only detail around side so it looks good from distance

also if you saw them you should've tested them yourselve so you would know.

They didn't populate anything besides skyrim, obviously.
It's the fact that they put in the geometry for everything at all that's strange, because you will never be able to see it unless you use console commands.

Maybe a dlc will take place at high altitude and you will look down on all this from a distance?

3 out of 9 hardly constitutes all provinces. Other then that, pretty neat, if these are in fact real Skyrim screenshots wonder if there is going to be anything done with them.

That's exactly my point why would they go through the effort of adding all that in? Not that I am complaining. :P

I would not be too surprised if one of the expansions for skyrim involved going to a large section of the main land of morrowind, maybe the part that is not a crater... Not sure about the cyrodiil part though. Pretty interesting.

its because when they did probably considered also places in high mountains and that could allow a see beyond the borders , so to avoid any problems they included just for shielding this eventualuity , then theyprobably didn't need to but since the game was done then why bother cutting the regions and redo the game worldspace?

anyway how do u go beyond?

You can probably see it from some of the mountain tops. Even if it is just lod (there was a thread about this a while back) someone said we might be able to convert it to a height map. This would be quite helpful. We'd just have to fill in the gaps.

So has anyone else actually managed to verify this? Could it not just be a ruse, through the use of an editor of some sorts?

It could be for DLC purposes. But if so, I bet you'll only be able to walk a very well defined and border checked path.

I was going to call hoax when I saw the sky view of the Imperial City, but then I realized it was just for comparison to the screenshot the article's OP took. If that wasn't built in on purpose, then the similarities are uncanny.

Well in the very bottom right corner there is a very stand out path to Morrowind. I'm at the end of that path trying desperately to no clip through the barrier. I can definitely see Vardenfell clearly from my position.

So it looks legit, the guy also claims solstheim and some other provinces are accessible looking forward to checking these out too!
