No purpose. It's not neccessary. I don't even loot bodies anymore.

I use all my money training skills I'll never use, so that I can put perks into the tree's I've hit 100 skill with, so can't level up anymore.

You must select a room and drop each coin individually. Then swan dive like Scrouge McDuck. Its a secret achievement.

Its for those who'll whine about not being uber in case they missed the crafting trees, the AI, the exploits... I mean c'mon Beth has never made a game where you actually have to try to get something. You have a post nuclear game where the main character must have asked himself "what scarcity of resources? I have more stuff than most people ever had BEFORE the bomb!"

Diving into a swimming pool full of tiny metal plates has a similar effect to diving into a sheet of metal; Scrooge McDuck died a paraplegic...

Of course if you did it in skyrim the coins would probably richocet around the room like a tumbedryer full of havok skeletons and tear you to shreds...

Does it need a point lol? You can never have too much money. Think of it this way, you might not have a use for it now but if you see something you want later then you can have it. With 600k gold you can buy virtually everything in the game.

Not to mention DLC. When the DLC comes around you'll have an upper hand of sorts. No doubt you'll want to buy ALL of the cool new stuff that comes along with it right? I know I did when Shivering Isles came out for Oblivion. I bought stuff that I knew fine well I'd never use in that expansion, just to see what it looked like lol.

TL;DR Too much money isn't a bad thing.

People keep saying about dropping gold coins, is this possible to do? It doesnt appear as a droppable object for me.

Well someone carefully put all that gold under crusty bits of moss, and under rugs, and inside cupboards, and glued it to naked skeletons, and put one or two pieces in the billions of urns throughout Skyrim. You should do the right thing and put those coins back in the same random places so the next adventurer can find them and pass them on.

Don't spend it all in one place.

I don't have a lot of money, because I invest it in training skills. I also collect books and unique items. I actively search and collect ingredients and store those in case I want to use alchemy in the future.

When you want something, you can buy it. That is the point.
Or alternatively, you can start you piggy bank over by dropping all of the money onto a corpse, wait a few days and have no money :)
