All time favorite TES moments!

Post » Tue Feb 01, 2011 8:05 pm

Namira made a wonderful thread discussing all our favorite TES quotes. I found myself wanting to post things, but I realized they were moments rather than quotes, and so I figured I had better make a new thread.

I have two TES moments I could consider favorites: The first was when I was explaining to my girlfriend where to go and what to do over the phone. It was her first time in Balmora and I said something to the effect of, "walk down the steps and turn left. Walk past the Argonian named Hul and hang a right. Walk to the narrow bit and head into the first of the dual buildings you see on your right -- that'll be the mages guild. Talk to Ranis Athrys and join," at which point she interrupted me and said, "Babe, you play this game waaaaaay too much."

The second is the entire beginning of Morrowind, from the opening cutscene to exiting the Census and Excise office. Nothing gets me going like creating a new character in Morrowind.

The opening in Morrowind was really nice yea, with the music and all it felt epic in a mysterious kind of way.

My favorite in Oblivion is many but one is when i entered Olaf's inn in Bruma and Ongar had tried to pickpocket someone, and just as i came in it was complete chaos in there, guards and lots of people fighting and yelling. Random moments like that are very funy. Tho a lot of mye favorite moments is also dark brotherhood quests, especially the one with the party.

First time getting out of the sewer, first time stepping of the boat, first time using environment to kill an opponent, there are too many favorite moments! xD

Morrowind:

Spoiler
Near the end of the Main Quest, when you've gone through all the preparations and you are about to mount a one man invasion of Red Mountain, and then you do it.

Spoiler
During Tribunal, I went into the dungeons, found the Dark Brotherhood base, killed them all, but lost alot of healing potions, mana potions and repair hammers and whatnot, I ended up severely weakened. Did Almsivi Intervention to get the hell out of there, ended up at the Mournhold Temple and was immediately attacked by Gaenor!!!!!! Hardest fight in any Bethesda game, by a long shot. The loonngest fight too.

Oblivion:

Spoiler
Doing the whole Kvatch storyline in the main quest for the first time. Stepping through that Oblivion Gate, and trying to close it not having a clue what to expect.

General:

Any moment in the game where you realize you're in too deep, and the adrenaline starts to flow, and you have to get creative to get out without dying. Good times.

Looking over my newly made character, in any game but especially Daggerfall because of the backstory they give you to read.

Also, when I finish decorating my home in Morrowind. Every character always lives in a unique place, decorated in a unique way. I love taking screenshots.

Also, any one-hit kill delivered in sneak mode.

Mine, as well as a lot of others, was the first time I stepped out of the Imperial Sewers in Oblivion.

As for Morrowind, my favorite moment was when I could actually hit something with my sword with every strike. Another is when the very first time I played Morrowind and realized the freedom and vastness of the game.

Just thought of another one: The first time I read the Daggerfall version of The Real Barenziah and though, "They can DO THAT in a game?"

This. I know the whole script for this part, I always join in. ^_^

Recently, I was doing a part of Tribunal, where I need to get the tar for Trueflame. One of those moments where I need to be highly resourceful. Two Storm Atronauts and a Dremora lose me all my potions. I go into the next room (for some reason), and there's a bunch of Dremora, a Golden Saint and a hunger. With the help of Amulet of Shadows, I barely scraqe my way through each one. It was awesome. I was then happy as larry walking back to get my new shiny sword when a Winged Twilight comes from nowhere. I kill it with 1hp left. I love those moments when the adrenaline kicks in, and I'm quite literally fearing for my virtual life. I've never had that from another game. Ever.

My favorite moment was when you're starting off the Shivering Isles, you're sitting in a room, then the man you are talking to teleports, and the walls detereorate into butterflies.

This. Its been 7 years since I first saw it, and it still gets me every time.

Being contacted by Lucien Lachance. I literally got the fright of my life. Also, after killing Horundur in Bruma when on his horse and seeing 'Your actions have been observed by forces unknown' That really freaked me out.

I'm not playing any scary games. I bought Deadspace, and uninstalled it after 30 minutes. Way. Too. Creepy.

Honestly for me, it was stepping off the boat for the first time in Morrowind.

Then getting acrobatics to 100 and hopping across the ocean.

First time you exit the boat and take a look around you, the water, the lighthouse in the distance, the sit strider, the way the light hits everything.
People say morrowind graphics look horrible so i guess love must be blind because the beauty of that moment still gets me...Im such a geek

Jiub. He was the only character in the entire game who honestly seemed to give a damn about me as a person, and not just as a pawn to advance some personal agenda, or someone who was blandly kind to me in a way that seemed to suggest that they say that to anyone who passes.

Spending months (play the game, get stuck, quit for a while, try again, get stuck, quit for a while... :P) trying in vain to find the Dwemer Puzzle Box because every gaming instinct in my body told me that the ph4t l00t is always at the deepest level of a dungeon, and then the embarrassment when I finally realized where it was.

Whodunit? (Oblivion, Dark Brotherhood). I felt like such a vile person, especially after killing Dovesi Dran, that I immediately quit that character and made a goodly paladin who belches fairydust and farts rainbows in atonement.

The ending of Oblivion. I don't care what anyone says, Martin's farewell and then the following epic-ness gets me every single time.

Jiub.

I love the fact that Jiub is one of the most popular characters in all of TES, yet he has roughly 20 seconds of dialogue. ^_^

Just to be fair, I got that feeling while fighting
Spoiler
Mankor Camoran
towards the end of Oblivion.
But I do love that in TES games. Having a little power-boosting artifact in your inventory that you save for a dire situation.

They're the most significant 20 seconds.

He's the only NPC in the game that doesn't treat you like an outsider.

My favorite moment of all time was the first time I levitated in Morrowind for the first time. For some reason I was back in the starting village. I swear as I raised into the air I had a sense of flying and vertigo. I couldn't believe how incredible it was.
Favorite event is hearing and seeing a woodelf fall from the sky and then reading his notes, Morrowind.
Coming over the hill and seeing Balmora.
First Oblivion gate.
The beginnings of either Morrowind and Oblivion.

Love that part as well. But the opening sequences of both OB and Morrowind are great, OB is very epic and grand but Morrowind is infinite times superior because it's so special and different it actually touches you. A++++++ on that Beth :foodndrink:
