Allods Online - It's free and you need to play it

Post » Sun May 13, 2012 12:47 am

So there is this game called http://en.allods.gpotato.eu/, it's a free MMO and it's actually pretty good (compared to most free MMOs). I've been playing it for a while now and I've gotten to a point where I kinda need to group up with some people and do some dungeons and group quests and things. It's not difficult to find players in the game but I'd rather play it with people from the BSF since they are usually a lot nicer than random strangers you meet in MMOs.

Here's all you need to know about the game:
  • It's free
  • It runs on almost all computers (I can run it on my netbook)
  • The client is light and responsive
  • It's very unique
  • The graphics are great (wow-style graphics)
  • The soundtrack was created by the same guy who created the soundtrack for Fallout 1 and 2
  • Space pirates
It's also worth mentioning that the game looks like a wow-clone (the graphics are REALLY similar) but the setting is quite unique.
Here are some screenshots I took:

Now, if you decide to download the game then make sure you're downloading the EU version of the game (even if you are not in europe), it's the most popular version of the game (except for the russian version) and I've heard american players talking about how good the ping is.

You should also join the ZAK server and then join the Empire (kinda like the Horde in wow)

Did they move away from their pay-to-win model?

It looks pretty interesting, I think I'll give it a try. However, I'm not sure if what I downloaded was the EU client or not, but it was the only download I could find.

EDIT: Played through the tutorial area with an Orc Reaver, and I must say I was fairly impressed. Most free MMOs are pretty terrible, but this one seems to be pretty good.

Those are some low system requirements indeed, I'll remember that for when I actually have the time and motivation to try an mmo on my netbook.

I supposed I'll give this a try but being in Asia my ping will probably be crap. Playing WoW on a USEast server I was getting ~350 ping on a good day. Wasn't too bad for anything casual but the drop off in my DPS made me weep.

Edit: It's asking me where to download it to. Will that be where the final install of the game is or is the download just the installer?

If I pick up another GB of RAM for my netbook that I use for school, I can play this game instead of taking notes in class...

Exo, I hope you realize that you are coming very close to ruining my future

Wow, you can basically make an exact replica of Hitler in character creation. I will not, however, succumb to the temptation and make some wacky British guy instead.

I remember hearing about this a while ago and that, aside from it's cash shop, it was pretty good. Didn't have something like a $12 million budget?

Anyways, I'll probably give it a go. http://en.allods.gpotato.eu/ correct? I can only assume that is where the EU version is located.

Yeah it had a crazy budget and it really shows, the game is very polished.

That is the correct URL

Now, what do you want me to name the BSF Guild? :P

It depends on from what site you downloaded it from. If you downloaded the client from the EU website http://en.allods.gpotato.eu/ then you have the EU version.
