Almost impossible to sell all of my items?

Post » Fri May 11, 2012 4:58 am

Does anyone feel like there's almost too little gold/ vendors in Skyrim?

After dungeon diving, I have a wide variety of items [armors, weapons, potions, staves, books, circlets, jewlery, etc]

However, nearly no store will buy all these items. Furthermore, some stores, like the ones for potions, have almost no money in them, so it's impossible to sell anything in bulk.

It seems like the only way to circumvent this is to get a top level perk to increase gold by 1000, or just fast travel to every possible city and sell to every single vendor in town. IT TAKES FORVER.

Help please? How long does it take for vendors to respawn their base gold amount?

I like that the gold is handled like Morrowind. The vendors wouldn't have infinite amount of gold and wouldn't buy everything. That also brings speechcraft into it as a useful skill.

Yes, but it's unbelievably annoying to travel to each individual vendor, only for them to have gold run out on me, and I'm over encumbered of their specific item type.

And the perks that circumvent this problem are halfway up a tree with a level restriction.

Why does every single character have to go speech craft in order to just dump their items?

If you could just easily sell it to anyone, then speech would be worthless

4 perks gets everyone 500 more
6 perks gets you another 1000

Depends on what you really want, more money or something else

But it forces me to go up a skill tree that I don't want to waste perks in!

All I want to do is drop off my excess items for a minimum gold exchange; I don't care if I get a fraction of what it's work, I just want some value out of the loot I've gotten.

However, to do this, I have to invest into a tree which requires 1. Hard Leveling and 2. Lots of perks.

Why do I have to be forced a skill tree just to sell items to people? Does this mean Speech Craft is a perk tree that EVERY SINGLE CHARACTER must get in order to sell things?

The worst part about it is that ironically, in order to be able to sell things you have to get a higher level perk in speech craft, but to level speech craft you have to sell!

How can I sell things when they keep running out of items on me? It's a bloody Catch 22.

Usually if you buy an expensive item you can use from a vendor the money they have to buy your clutter increases by the amount of gold you paid for the goods you bought. Try buying goods you will use during your adventures before trying to sell your junk. This could help a lot if you buy spell tomes and assorted potions. A stronger weapon could cost as much as four or five suits of fur or leather armor, or imperial swords.

Leaving behind the heavy and bulky stuff that is nearly worthless will help when it's time to off load junk to the vendors, too.

Dump them at your house
Sleep for 3 days and check to see if the gold has returned

If not
Sleep for longer

only real other option

Good advice, but I have a bigger problem.

Certain vendors like those dealing with potions or, strangely enough, jewelry, have almost no money. Even the scrolls vendors have nothing.

I'm practically over-encumbered with potions. But they're each worth around 300 gold. I can only sell 2 before I'm denied any more access.

Furthermore, I have nothing I want to buy from a potions store. BUT SINCE THEY'RE THE ONLY STORE THAT BUYS POTIONS, I'm forced to go there. It's such a bad system.

Ha, I've already slept 6 days and still have a boatload of items.

The problem is that specific vendors have considerably less money than others. Potions in particular has a pitiful amount of gold, such that I cant sell anything.

The system gimps you into putting points into speech craft.

Oh, that svcks. I need to fiddle around a little more. I use most of my potions when I find them, so I haven't noticed this bit of frustration.

If only I could, it appears the the owner of the general store in my game died and I don't know when it happened. I with that there was some kind of respawn for NPCs that own stores...

Go to Riverwood, or another general store. I'm pretty sure this works for all vendors, not 100% sure though.

Well if you could sell all your items then speech is pointless

Its not forcing you to do it

Its tempting you to do it

You could just dump your items and let them vanish. Really is there a gold sink worth the headaches?

I thought I read or heard somewhere that when a shop owner dies another NPC can take over and the items available might be differenet...was this scrapped?

If you cannot sell your loot, that ruins the point of dungeon diving completely.

Which type of character goes into dungeons? ALL of them.

This also means that every single character has to invest in Speech Craft in order to sell their items. Is that fair?

It IS forcing you to do it. I only pick up enchanted items, and potions now. I still cant sell all of them. It's becoming ridiculous.

I cant see how you could possibly play the game by going into a cave, finding nice items, and then dropping them and letting them vanish. Sure sounds like fun

I never have that much trouble. Of course, that's probably because half of the vendors have 2,000 Gold because of all the smithing materials I buy. :P Seriously, I find that the amount of money the vendors have is quite enough. Whiterun is especially good, with the large amount of vendors available. I don't know about you, but I rarely find myself coming out of a dungeon with more loot than I can sell, and I'm Level 30.

Making speech pointless isnt fun for those that have taken speech perks isnt fun either

I have several points in speech because the same thing happened in both Oblivion and in Morrowind

The merchants didnt have the gold needed to sell everything. So you have to decide

20% more damage or sell your items

Cant have both

I have the exact same problem, OP. I ended up just buying a house in Whiterun for 5K and dumping everything I can't sell all at once Into a chest. Now, whenever I need more money, I go back to the chest and "withdraw" some cash, so to speak.
Or you could do the waiting trick, that seems to be working for people.

But it does not have to be this way. They can make it so that you aren't completely forced into speech if you couldn't care less about efficient gold income. They should balance it so that those who want to drop off items for a bare minimum amount can do so, even if they are getting completely ripped off.

There's no need to force players into Speech just because they don't want to simply drop items and let them vanish.

Well, in your scenario, it is easier because you need supplies that are easier to find in stores, and thus you supply them with additional gold.

However, when questing for stronger weaponry, you truly cant buy that in a shop, nor better armor. For that, you have to dungeon dive. And you usually get an excess of material that can be sold. So most of the time I'm only selling, and get stopped instantaneously.
