Alpha Protocol

So it has shooting like Deus Ex?

I love DX. And I wish they'd make that new one they were talking about a while back, but sadly, I doubt it.

I'd be okay with shooting/targeting like DX.

Can you put a scope on your pistol, that is all I ask.

It feels like Deus Ex running on a dual core without tweaking.

Sounds like it is winner then.

The Mass Effect and Uncharted series of games are amazing, for the record. Not the same as AP but still good in their own right...

My copy arrived today, installing now, though it's taking an age.

Not really sure what to expect, I've heard good and bad things, but for £15 can't really go wrong.

So I rented the game last night, and played around with it for a good amount of the night, before hitting the sack. So far, my two cents on the game... meh? I like that's it's espionage, and all that, and you can do a lot of things, but some of the people you work with just seem kinda bland. The shooting mechanics, didn't really bother me like some have said, but I dunno. I'd give it a 7.7 or solid 8.

I love the shotgun. I LOVE it. My favourite thing is to use it to knock and enemy down using the charge shot and then curb stomp them to death. Fun and effective.

I just got past Saudi at the time of this post, and it's getting more interesting.

I went with Rome, Taipei then Moscow, and I had a blast that way.

Although some parts of Taipei are a tad... frustrating, even when playing as a guns blazing character, so I dread to think how a stealth guy would do it. I'll go and do a new game right now, on Normal with a purely stealth + pistol based guy. That should be interesting.

Actually, Taipei as a stealthy guy is pretty good. Helps to have friends though, and the chain shot ability is just excellent for slaughtering your enemies, especially when you combine it with brilliance and shadow operative. (and that radio mimic gadget)

Yeah, that's why I did Moscow first this time, to
Spoiler
get in touch with G22 (sis is cool)
as soon as possible.
And I agree, chain shot + shadow operative + evasion makes this game quite easy.

Somehow I think Shadow Operative is bugged. I can use it and run up to a group of enemies and kill every one of them with the takedown or kill, and still remain in shadow operative, and noone sees me even though their buddy gets slaughtered right in front of their face.

Nope, only 3rd person.

I enjoyed conviction, but the game just doesn't last long. If you end up playing it for more then three weeks, that'll be a miracle. I've never played Alpha Protocol, but I'd say AP(it looks a hell of alot better).

In my opinion, Alpha Protocol. It doesn't have the god-awful DRM for a start. And I'd suggest that Alpha Protocol was more of a stealth game than Conviction.

Didn't ubisoft say you must have an Internet connection to play it or something? So AP looks pretty good from some gameplay footage I found. Does it have some sort of online component?

You should get Alpha protocol. Level design wise, Alpha protocol's levels are about as linear as most splinter cell ones, but Alpha protocol gives you a much broader range of abilities and tools, so you can really have your own unique play-style rather than the more limited options of splinter cell.

You need a constant internet connection. If it cuts off, BAM. You're kicked off the game. AP doesn't have that, but it doesn't have any MP, if that's what you meant?

Roughly how many hours of gameplay.

I'd say maybe 20-30, but there's more to do than is possible in a single playthrough, because of the different options.

Haven't played much, just the tutorial and a couple missions in Saudi, but so far I'm enjoying it. I can see why people don't, the shooting can be a little frustrating and it hasn't ported to PC very well (pretty unresponsive) but aside from that it's fun. It's pretty satisfying to sneak up behind people and take 'em out with some CQC. :hehe:

That being said, it doesn't feel like a new game, it looks and feels like a game that came out a few years ago, not last week.

I like the way the story is told. It's familiar without being cliche. Voice acting sounds good.

Anyway, I ran into a little hitch the other day- it was awesome. My tech-based character couldn't easily handle a full combat situation that the game forces on you, but when I reloaded a save and bought an intelligence, that sequence became a walk in the park. It was pretty sweet that it's actually harder to fight in combat if you didn't spend points in combat, but having to do the mission over kind of svcked. I'm having this problem whee if I die and click load last save, there are no people (I have to click load game>autosave). Menus are slow and the textures in menus take a second to load. Once, a texture refused to load correctly. Combat is really not RPG and not shooter, so it feels awkward to someone used to the norm. I changed my play style for this game, and it worked better after that, but really. Also, pistols are more useful than assault rifles. -.-

Also, the e-mails are better than in Mass Effect 2. Far better.

Alright, so I got it today (EB games had it in stock :D) and it was not as glitchy as I expected (granted I'm still only in Saudi).

I could be wrong buy I get the impression from the reviews I've read that the PC version isn't as buggy as the other versions.

I've also read bad things about AI, are people playing on the PC finding this to be a pervasive problem?

I'm playing on PC and I haven't found it to be that much of a problem. Sure, it's not amazing, but it's not horrible either, at least from my experience. There's been a few times when guards have taken cover in stupid positions, or when they haven't been particularly alert when I'm sneaking about. But generally it's been alright.
