Alpha Protocol

What bugs does it have? Links?

All I see are a bunch of complaints about how it's buggy with the examples being texture pop-in and floating enemies. The latter is serious, but reviewer doesn't mention how often it occurs. If common, you're right to call it broken.

Anyway, bugs can be fixed. I really have no idea why you're worrying so much about Fallout: New Vegas when Fallout 3 had such a dedicated modding community that made up for all of its bugs. If they don't release an editor, then you can start worrying. Todd Howard will be making Fallout 4 and Elder Scrolls V (I think), so you have nothing to worry about. Bethesda has tons of cash and this isn't one of their in house titles- they can handle it if it tanks (it wont due to their amazing marketing, though).

Edit: I might just be able to better tolerate bugs than most. So yeah, I guess you have your own idea of what a broken game is.

I just don't tolerate bugs much in a game if I'm aware of them before purchasing. I can deal with even the worst bugs out there if nothing I read about the game mentioned them, but when reviews mention a good amount of bugs like in Alpha Protocol, well, I'm much more critical of them.

Don't get me wrong, chances are I'll still rent this, but I wont be buying it until I try it out and see for myself.

I can sympathize with not wanting to waste your money on a game you're not sure about. Just don't be too quick to judge Fallout: New Vegas based on a different style of game made using a different engine. I'm sure Bethesda's helping them with the technical issues (they made the darn engine), and I've never found an Obsidian game to be lacking in the good ideas department.

I honestly don't see what bugs they're talking about. I've done all of the first area, and then moved on to a new city, and the only bug I've gotten was one of those terrain bugs where you move up in the air a little bit as you walk past a pile of debris. Everything works perfectly for me, except the fps has dropped once or twice. You probably wouldn't even know there were any bugs except you read the reviews.

Oh I did get a CTD on exit, but I play Bethesda games so that's nothing.

Same here. I've read a lot of rants about bugs and technical problems, yet I've encountered none. Not even the fps drop or the popping textures (barring the outfitchange screen, which doesn't really interfere with the gameplay itself).

The AI is really wonky at times, but I'm quite lenient with stuff like that when it does not brake the flow of the game. Not every NPC acts like an idiot and hide behind thin air, or try to walk through walls. Overall, what I've experienced so far is quite enjoyable.

Can anyone say "obvious bias"? :P

I'll still probably pick it up, though. Seems like the bugs aren't that bad (I watched a video review that displayed some, like texture popping and crappy ai). I can forgive the combat because it's an RPG where player skill is superseded by character skill. A lot of people dislike this because they feel like they're getting screwed over by the "magic dice" or "hidden numbers", but I don't mind. Why North America later? =/

The people there raise some good points regarding New Vegas. If New Vegas turns out to be only as buggy as FO3 I'll be incredibly happy as I ran into very few bugs except a few that really stand out, like getting stuck in the geometry (which can be fixed with console commands). And New Vegas did start with the engine Bethesda already made, so they can't screw it up too much. It is, as someone said in that thread, pretty much just a huge mod for Fallout 3. So I can't say all my worries are gone, but I'm less concerned about it.

I know, but how good New Vegas will be is related to how good/bad/buggy AP is.

How so? The games use very different engines, and the Fallout 3 game engine is already done. The quest system, the NPC AI and everything is already in place, thanks to FO3. So keep this thread to AP, if you want to discuss New Vegas, there's a specific forum for that.

I don't read my topic for a couple of days amd BAM!

I created a monster.

Anyways onto AP. I never went and picked up my copy from Game Stop.

After reading some things on here, I decided to get my five bucks back, and not buy it.

It seems like a good game, but not something I want to spend sixty dollars on. I'm sure in a month or two it will be way cheaper in the used games section.

Honestly, I'm glad I didn't make that mistake, and I'm wondering why I pre-ordered.

Your mistake :P

Despite the technical flaws, it's an excellent game. Or at least I think so :P

Yes, but I also said :

I will aquire a copy in the future, but I just don't think i should waste almost sixty USD on it.
When you don't make much, you spend wisely.

How far are you in? I just left the first area, and then decided to go to

Rome, where I've done some pretty awesome missions, my favourite so far was just a basic recon one that turned out to have a huge impact on the story.

Going to get it the 3rd of next month (pay-day on 3rd, YAY!)

And unlike some that foolishly approached it like ME2, ive done my research (AKA cant snipe a dude across the room with a pistol unless you actually have skill points in it!)

My first playthrough? Typical me with RPGs, warrior straight up, but ill customize while inclining towards combat (with a little of lockpicking and tech warfare for extra money making chances!)

No fool terrorist or corrupt goon shall stand in the way of my juggernaut

It's hilarious that European game sites are finding this game to be pretty decent, while U.S. reviewers are acting like it's an offense to God/Allah/Buddha/Yahweh/Xenu/etc. because it's got a few bugs and the aiming is like Deus Ex.

It is funny.
I guess the Europeans focus more on the actual contents of the game, are more tolerant of the technical issues (which I still haven't encountered) because the game mostly makes up for it and at the same time understand the phrase RPG while pulling the trigger during a mission. I dunno, though.

I know I'm not Freddo, but...

Spoiler
I did Rome first as well, and just completed Moskow after that. Taipei next.
So far it has been an excellent game and I'm sure I'll replay it at least 3 times. To try all the classes and responses etc.
Worth the 50 Euro I payed.

I think this game will be a rent for me first. Possibly a buy when on discount, or something. But reading through reviews (EU and US) I'm a little torn. I like Espionage books, movies, games, etc. but this one I'm not 100% about. The aiming system doesn't bother me, like it seems to with some, but I just don't know.

I left the first area too, and then
Spoiler
I went to Moscow and did a bunch of missions there until I met the "rocking" mafia boss who I wasn't able to beat, and went for Rome instead to gain levels and skills, and is now at the museum and will then go back and finish Moscow. Taipei is last, cause I have a hunch that's the most interesting location of the 3.

I like the game lots ^_^
