Alpha Protocol

Post » Mon Mar 15, 2010 9:43 am

I pre-ordered Alpha Protocol for PS3 simply for because of these two words:

Espionage.

RPG.

Well, the second is more of an abbreviation, but reguardless....

I wanted to know some opinions of people on the Beth Boards.

I'm about to go surfing for info, but whatever ya'll have heard, I'd be glad to read!
Thanks in advance guys and gals.

Pretty much the same, except I pre-ordered it for PC. I look forward to play it very much, and it will be nice to finally be able to play it soon, it's been my most anticipated game for ~2 years now!

But what makes it so anticipated for you?

I don't even remember reading about it in GI, so it must not have caught my eye.

I feel kind of stupid pre-ordering this game having only known it was supposed to be an Esionage RPG...

I'm very intrigued by it. If the stealth elements pan out I'll get it.

Couple minutes ago I was over at the Sega forums just browsing and I saw Mr. Freddo there. I was like http://i837.photobucket.com/albums/zz296/PUNKem733/Misc-OhSnap.jpg then left because I didn't find the droids I was looking for.

I'm curious of the title, but fear it might be another watered down thief-looalike like Splinter Cell. I'll have to wait and see what folks say about it after it hits the market stalls.

Speaking of thief, anybody heard anything about Ion Storm, regarding Thief 4 and Deus Ex: Human Revolution.

Last I heard they were in development. I think it was around a year ago.

Ion Storm has been dead for years :P

Thief 4 and Deus Ex: Human Revolution are developed by Eidos Montreal, or whatever that studio is called.

Initially I was interested in this but the more I've seen the less I want to buy it. The graphics and art design look almost last-gen and I'm not convinced on the gameplay either. I'l need to see more footage and some reviews before I decide to buy it or not. I realise graphics aren't everything - I love Saints Row 2 to death - but I was disappointed when I saw it. Then again the gameplay videos are all pretty old now so perhaps things have been tweaked since then.

If I get this, it's because Chris Avellone worked on it. That guy is a great story writer. Planescape: Torment, anyone?

I saw some gameplay and the animations are a bit wonky, graphics don't really matter to me, and the stealth doesn't look very well developed (then again, I've only seen "combat" previews). The unarmed combat looks strangely satisfying.

Also, I wouldn't hold out any hope for Thi4f. *shudder*

I'm keeping my eye on it, haven't decided whether I'll pre-order it or not, might wait for reviews. Looks pretty cool though, and I'll almost definitely get it eventually.

Chris Avellone is a videogame storytelling genius, I'm absolutely at least looking into the game, I'll probably buy it at some point too, though there's a lot of games I want at the moment.

It looks to have a lot of potential. Of course, I'm going to wait to see if it lives up to it all. I never buy games for full price anymore so even then I'll probably wait for a price drop if it's good after all.

I am looking forward to this as it is going to be an RPG that is set in a modern world that I can relate to. I will have to see how it turns out.

Pre-ordered forever. Okay, I was cheap and pre-ordered on some store with price guarantee when it was at 18€ or so, but anyway I'm really looking forward to it. Avellone, ME-like gameplay, modern setting (we lack RPGs in a current-time setting), what more could I want? ^_^

I just noticed this on the Steam store. Like I said before, I'll be waiting to see how this goes before getting it but just looking at the screenshots makes me really want to play this. Mostly because it looks like it could be a sweet stealth-styled game but knowing that it's an RPG makes it more or less a must buy for me.

Reviews are giving it 80s. This pleases me since most of the games that get 90s tend to be overhyped pieces of crap. Also, the reviews mention that the writing, and choice and consequence are good (this is what pleases me the most). I'm cautiously getting my hopes up.

Oh, it turns out they got the unarmed combat animations as motion capture, which explains why I found it to look satisfying.

And some French people have their hands on it already. D:

Edit: svcks that it's going up against Red Dead Redemption. This will probably screw it over since RDR is a far, FAR larger title.

I pre-ordered it, managed to get it off Play.com for £15 so can't really lose. :D

So far I've heard that it's a good game, but the graphics are somewhat outdated.

Might buy it after a few reviews.

Real time lockpicking/hacking minigames FTW.

Melee combat at 1:54 looks a bit weird though... The moves seem too fast to me.

I think it's good for general orientation (like left being snarky, right suave, and so on) and cinematicnessicityness it makes the scenes appear more like a movie. Honestly, I don't want to read the line, then hear it again acted out. A general direction is very fine, and in case of Alpha Protocol the more impulsive dialogues really look great.

Well, http://twitter.com/jesawyer/status/14701863983.

Aaanyway... I might enquire to get a console copy from a friend tomorrow. Will report back with experiences tomorrow if I can. Good to have online reviewing pals. ^_^
