[REQ] Alpha texture + locating a fog resource

Post » Fri Apr 16, 2010 7:27 am

So this is a request, I'd be very grateful if someone could make a panel of leaves please. My intention of using them is for surface of the water, like nenuphars that float on the surface of the water, these would be on the surface of the water as if the leaves fell from the tree and are now on the surface of the water bellow that tree. Hope this is not confusing (I'm bed at explaining :P).

Another thing is, I remember there being a good model of fog but I can't locate it even if my life would depend on it, does some one have it and knows who made it?

Thanks in advance :)

I could make such a panel, and in fact have in the past, but the problem is that Morrowind doesn't render the alpha properly. The water will "disappear" at certain angles. It's one of the things I had hoped the MCP team could fix.

Unless it's ok for the panel to not have alpha, but I suspect that wouldn't look right.

Morovir, what values for the alpha did you try? I just tested this with a tree canopy i had, and it works great, i never saw any water disapear, i swimmed around it and looked from all angles, above and under.

Chaka ZG: Morrowind already has a fog model. furn_mist512.nif and furn_mist256.nif. I added this fog model to the swamp model in MW hehe, so all swamps are now misty.. But i dont think it looks that good, its kind of choppy, i can see why they didnt use it(?). I can create a plane of leaves for you, but doesnt the tree already have a plane of leaves? It's supposed to have lost all leaves and now they're in the water?

Aah yeah, forgot about that, just remembered problems with my girls going bald when I take a swim with Westly's hairs. <_< So is it possible, or would it look totally distorted? But how did they made nenuphars? If I remember correctly they are alphaed and I've been using them on water pretty often and I've never seen it or the water distort..

Yeah, it looks weird, besides placing one behind another makes them terribly bright even on bigger distances, so it looks weird from certain angles.

I don't mean on the tree, it's like...a woodlike place, which has some trees, and I dug up ancient folder with permission and model of falling leaves from Lady Eternity. However most of the surface bellow is shallow water instead of roads and stone etc so I thought to add a bit of a swampy look by adding few nenuphars (lily's are they called?) and few of those floating leaves that "fell from trees". Like http://i.pbase.com/g6/21/126821/2/75323125.ZiSQN9vi.jpg.

If you could make something like that it would be very nice of you :)

I get a "forbidden" on that .jpg..

Was it Lady Eterinity who made that island (can't remember what the mod was called) with big trees that had falling leaves? I remember playing such mod like ages ago, would love to test that mod again.

The leaves on the water needs to match the falling leaves in that case.

Odd  I can open it.. http://www.level5ive.com/images/az__leaves_in_water_qqxs.png Tho I don't think you need the pics anymore, since you know what I'm talking about.

Hm don't remember any island, must admit. It was from her page if I remember correctly, and it only came with that mesh and single texture. I don't think that the match is that important since the falling leaves are really really tiny, and you can't really tell what's the color, even the shape is barely recognized unless the area is somewhat darker. But it's up to you..

So you're really gonna make it? :hehe:

I see. It's really no need, since the trees won't match either :P But ok. And thanks ^^

Now it's the embarrassing part..I never uploaded zipped files, my friend did it for me when I had my site long ago, so I'll have to figure that out 1st, then I'll upload :P

EDIT: ooh I remember now, yes, the model originally came with the tree, but I cut it out with nifscope, leaving the leaves as a lone mesh of it's own.

EDIT2: figured  http://www.megaupload.com/?d=U1WORUM9

I used the leaf that came with that animation, just warped it a little and changed colors etc.

I've been messing around with a translucent slime layer for a while, and I either can get it to work where it doesn't cause the water to disappear, but it shimmers like crazy; or vice versa.

I guess I'm just going to have to go with opaque, but animate it to look like water...

On the fog resource, IIRC there's a nice one in C_Mireneye's resource pack http://www.4shared.com/file/o9J8i0k-/Mireneyes_Resouce_Pack_12.htm. I haven't looked at it in-game yet, but it looks very nice in the CS and NifSkope.

look at the layer i posted here, and see if that shimmers and looks odd too.. what threshold of the alpha did you use or did you leave that at default?
