Already GOTY? WTH?

Post » Thu Oct 28, 2010 6:56 pm

Gamereactor is already very keen on Skyrim. They placed it #1 on their list of the "hottest" games of 2011. Skyrim will get GOTY, and plenty of them.

It's IGN's most anticipated too.

Can you elaborate on why you say it is based on sales?

It's a profit-driven industry. The bottom line is the dollar sign.

Which "GOTY" are you referring to?

All consider how well a game has been sold, and the hype funds publishers poured on. First day sales matter the most.

They actually don't all look at the games sales. Do you know how many GOTY's are given out every year now? They're all based on whatever that particular magazine/site decides to base it on. There's no one magic factor, like money, that is an auto-GOTY from every site. Morrowind's sales were good, but not remarkably high compared to other games the year it came out. It won because it was a better game than many others, even one's that sold better.

And...? As if "GOTY" means anything anyway, with 300+ of them handed out like candy every year by every web site and their brother's web site.

"Big News?, our game was voted Game of the Year by DentalHygieneDigest.com!"

This.

Skyrim will win multiple GotY awards, so will TW2, so will MW3, so will Batman Arkham City, so will the new Uncharted and Portal and etc.....

These award titles have become fairly meaningless. /shrug

we don't know if the game is any good. Spore looked great, but it turned out to svck. Could be the same for Skyrim. "Don't knock it 'til you try it" goes both ways. A GotY award is way premature.

The Elder Scrolls is going to have tough competition but with their current winning streak, AAA quality games, great visuals etc they have a good chance but that's only a prediction I have only seen what a couple of games are bringing to the table

It might take home a dozen...which will still leave a few hundred for Skyrim and everything else released in 2011 to divide up amongst themselves.

11/11/11

And I think it will snatch some awards in its own genre, which would not conflict with Skyrim.

Seeing the inevitable popularity that Skyrim will have with the general gaming market, I'm honestly not surprised.

Besides, with games along the leagues of Black Ops being nominated and basically winning GotY every year, it only diminishes the value of that title even more. I think the last game that came out that even truly deserved GotY was Morrowind. The majority of GotYs ever since have mostly been popularity contests.

I've been saying that Skyrim would win the most GOTY's with Mass Effect 3 being a close second. With it being delayed to 2012, I think Skyrim will dominate.

LOL I love how he says final fantasy is amazing. Square is losing a CRAP load of Yen right now.. Maybe they should start producing good games again.. IJS.

Sorry that was off topic but... srsly.

This x10000.

I'am going to laugh when they go bankrupt from bad decision made over a long period of time. They used to be big news back in the PS2 era but their days are numbered.

Well, we already know that it's gonna get the GOTY. So what's the problem?

It might not, some pretty big titles are coming out through out the year, LA Noire, Battlefield 3, also Arkam City is slated for October and I think Marvel Vs Capcom II came out two months ago, and lets not forget that Bethesda has two other titles coming out, Brink, and Rage.

And thats of course if reviewers don't decide to cheat and give it to Mass Effect 2 again, since that came out for the PS3 in January.

Of course, I'm pretty sure the game will be a contender, and it will likely be the biggest game coming holiday season, now that Mass Effect 3 has been delayed.

Christmas in Elder Scrolls land, I'm looking forward to it.

to be expected when dealing with a big dev like Bethesda, and the long interval between sequels.

Well, I'd call it game of the decade only i know there will probably be another one in the next 8 years.

Agreed. Summerset might be released before 2020.

This would be silly and presumptuous if this wasn't TES...but it is.
