Already GOTY? WTH?

Post » Thu Oct 28, 2010 9:07 am

The way I see it, the GOTY is Team Skyrim’s award to lose. No pressure development team...it’s just if you don't win GOTY you will all be huge failures. No pressure.

"every new trailer and teaser for the epic game should only bring more joy and boners for all the gamer boys and girls." Boners for girls? Those guys are beyond madness.

Brink

Brink? GotY? That game is a mess and the Brink sections of the forums is even worse. It's a disaster over there.

I was right there with you up until this point.

Forgetting something?.............like..... :obliviongate:

Oblivion was a great game and all (despite myself being really disappointed with it at first before I added in mods), but I'm sort of iffy on the subject of it deserving GotY. I'll have to see what games it was up against that year to recall if it was the most deserving game.

It's almost certainly going to be GOTY.

1. MW, OB and FO3 all got loads of GOTYs and RPGs of the Year awards when they came out.
2. So far, news on Skyrim ahve been positive. Obviously some disagree but sites, magazines and I'd say +60% of the TES fanbase are really looking forward for the game.
3. There are hundreds of GOTY awards, so even with the competetion it's hard not to get one.

That said there are many contenders besides Skyrim such has BF3, The Witcher 2, LA Noire, MineCraft and Portal 2.

they realized resistance is futile. :chaos: every time an elder scrolls game goes to e3 it comes out with the game of the year award to its name :tes:

They didn't name it GOTY, they're just saying it's definitely a big contender. At least that's what I gathered from it

It's kind of a given that Skyrim would be game of the year among some, if not all, reviewing sites. To not be would be illogical.

I think it's unfair to have such expectations for games like this before they even come out. When it comes to determining Game of the Year, it doesn't matter how popular a single game is, it matters how good every other game around it is in comparison. Plus it generates unnecessary expectations of the game before you buy it, makes people assume that it will be perfect in every aspect, and then when there is a single flaw with the game they don't like, well, it's like what happens when someone gets 10 gravity hammer kills in a row on Halo Reach.

i have seen GOTY on many games during the same year i think its safe to say on bethesdas record as well and its not like they can have a poll on what gamers think all they vote for is the biggest multiplayer game of the year

bethesda has won GOTY for all of their games (Not counting arcade games) so it is pretty obvious they will win if you can't see that somethings wrong with u

Well I have to say I'll be amazed if Skyrim is a better game than the Witcher 2. Not because it will be a letdown or anything but because Beth is up against flair. Skyrim will be more or less discovered ground, and while it will do what it tries to achieve brilliantly, it won't stray far from the beaten track. The Witcher 2 is a truly individual game, and one that has achieved 9.5 or 10/10 on virtually every review. While I expect Skyrim to be getting no less than 9s, I doubt it will make that extra jump.

Take that flair away and TW2 is an average affair.

Majority of people are saying they don't want flair in Skyrim. I've seen so may posts about how they don't want finishing moves, cutscenes, the 3d map, the new interface with the nebulas, etc.....

That's because people like to complain. Take all that stuff away and they will find something else to complain about, or simply just complain that now the game is too basic/generic.

There's a difference between contrived effects in order to compensate for streamlining and flair. When I talk about flair I mean attempts at maturity that don't come across as unironically juvenile. I'm talking about gritty environment where you can sense the stories and hardship under the surface. I'm talking about the originality of plot, the unbelievable attention to detail, the production of a realistic script and a game which isn't afraid to brutally punish you for your mistakes.

I've never seen the Elder Scrolls do any of that. I'm not saying it's impossible but the Witcher has set a high bar for RPGs this year.

Witcher also isn't a truly open world RPG. Witcher also gives you a character to play, so defining a story is much easier and can be more intimate. And the combat? Bad. I'll leave it at that.

The entire gameworld doesn't need to be defined by a central character though. There are plenty of other ways Skyrim could be unique.

I don't think I'll ever make any headway suggesting a game may have something Skyrim doesn't in the fan.boys' home stadium.

I agree, I need to force myself a lot to get over the stupid combat, especially the auto-aim in smaller interiors is awful, or the stupidity where you are hitting the air while a stupid enemy is going back to their original spot because he went too far :brokencomputer:
The story is good though.
