Alright, so I am getting a laptop.

I am going to make this short and simple, I need to get a laptop and I'd like one I can game on; and I'd like one within a reasonable price range, you know, 500 - 1000 US dollars, possibly a little more, what should I get?

Alienware - Laptop / Intel? Core?2 Duo Processor / 11.6" Display / 4GB Memory / 250GB Hard Drive - Cosmic Black

Alienware is the way to go if you're gaming you could probably get a better one than that (it's 800 u.s. dollars) if i were you i'd save the other 200 and get some games :D

(i wish i had 1000 dollars to spend on a laptop)

Or you could go option b and get a desktop or make your own computer.

My recommendation is for an Asus or MSI laptop. Do you want 15.4'' or 17''?

I've been kind of partial to this http://www.toshibadirect.com/td/b2c/pdet.to?poid=488794 for a while now.

Yeah, that one should be fine for most games. I had a similar one with a less powerful graphics card (310M) and similar processor and was able to play Oblivion on really jacked up settings. I didn't experiment with many games, though.

I have an Acer Aspire 5741G. It's not a total gaming machine, but it was cheap (1600 NZD which is about 1200 USD) and...Well, I play very few games on it but it handles them well on full graphics. I really like it. It's also very light and slim. I got it as an all-rounder and it does everything I want it to perfectly well.

Alienware is great for gaming. I have the Toshiba Satelite A665, which I really like, but I don't PC game that much.

Alienware is great for gaming.

But on the other hand, really really expensive for what it is.

Eh, I would still stay away from Alienware, even for a laptop. There are plenty of other brands that would play games fine for the price. This http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834146848 would do pretty well, although as always you are limited to what you can place in a laptop for the same price as a desktop.

Also speaking of laptops, ironically, I just ordered my new one about 5 minutes ago. While not meant for gaming, it will do well for a dedicated Backtrack system. Possibly with another distro on the side.

I have a Samsung Q430/Q530. I highly recommend it, as it has a very good power for the price. Plays Dragon Age on medium settings, plays Starcraft II on medium settings, can probably rock Fallout: New Vegas too, and it's not an HP so it shouldn't break in a year. I bought it for something like $600-700ish.

you can try sager, its not flashy as other laptops, but you get what you paid for. but specifically, what level of gaming you prefer? entry level? mainstream? or enthusiast?
