Alright, so who else hates Dogmeat?

Post » Mon Nov 30, 2015 7:18 pm

Parked him in Sanctuary- haven't seen him since.

The idea of him finding loot was great, but what happens is you get a message that he found something. He grabs it, runs (sometimes) towards you and drops it in the tall grass...

Hope you weren't busy and had a clear line of sight on him when that happened. Most of the time, I never recovered whatever he found.

Other companions are pulling npc's and blocking my path, but at least they're not hiding loot and barking while I'm sneaking.

i wish Bethesda had used ZOS's player no-colision on dogmeat from ESO, he gets in the way far too often especially during combat (missile firing/mini-nuke super mutants and a dog blocking your movement is not a good thing)

He is GREAT for carrying your crap. Other companions seem to be very overpowered as well; where I think Dogmeat is balanced in his helpfulness.

I love Dogmeat!

Sure he ALWAYS runs in to combat immediately (and then whines when he gets shot), and serves as a great distraction -or- completely ignores enemies and plays with his teddy bear instead, and I'm always tripping over him, and he never follows instructions, and he barks ALL the time and he likes to wander off only to return when he feels like it, and...

But, I do love dogmeat. I love the way, when I sit in my Sanctuary house at the end of a long day, he sits right by me and stares adoringly at me. I love that he brings me things that I can actually use without my ever having to ask him to. I love that he's always there for me, no matter the situation. I love that he is his own being (as the old lady in Concord told me). I love that he, apparently, loves Codsworth.

There are just so many things about that mutt that I love and hate.

I couldn't go without my Dogmeat. Especially when I'm actually eating dogmeat steaks. :)

I pretty much only use companions that I can give ranged weapons to. Strong runs out of .38 ammo and he has a default sledgehamer so he just runs up and ends up getting shot by me. Codsworth also runs right in front of me to engage enemies and also gets shot and dogmeat is only slightly better because he is at least lower tot he ground. Preston and the merc guy from the bar are the only two that I have found to be useful.

I have the game...since day one, but need to buy a computer that will run it. So I can't make an opinion from playing, but from watching youtubes, I think Dogmeat is more of a value than a negative.

Same here! I totally hate that kind of follower and swore I'd never drag that mutt around, but so far he hasn't actually been all that annoying. He seems to roam a bit more on his own than followers in previous games, which means he's rarely in my way (and has not yet been during a critical moment). He has also warned me of ghouls a couple of times and led me to some loot, so all in all I'm ok with him for now. It is, however, beyond me how a dog carries anything...

All the companions are obnoxious when it comes to sneaking about and just generally going through doorways. I bring the french mr handy robot with me because her commentary is super amusing, but I can't tell you how many times she's literally pushed me backwards through a doorway I was trying to go in. It's frustrating and the kind of thing that can't possibly have gotten past even a basic QA of the systems. Did they just not test ANYTHING before release?

Dogmeat in particular annoyed me just because of the constant barking and whining. He doesn't shut up and I hated taking him anywhere. I set up a doghouse for him and sent him to a settlement permanently. Not interested in hearing dog whining throughout my wasteland explorations. It's like they took this great idea from Fable and made it completely obnoxious.

I did that too! I don't have any ammo for the Cryo gun, but I have it.

Apparently it's a glitch in the game. Dogmeat can retrieve anything from any container as far as I can tell. He's gotten stuff out of Master Lock safes for me!

The old lady in Concord tells you that he's called Dogmeat. Of course she also tells you that something that sounds an awful lot like a Deathclaw has it in for you. She just skips the specifics. Sheesh

He did find me some rad-away when I sorely needed it... I hated him until then.

Now I just dislike him intensely.

Yes, Dogmeat can be downright annoying with his constant blocking of doorways, running in my line of sight when I'm zeroing down a target, but he has saved my carcass multiple times by distracting an enemy long enough for me to retreat my ass out of there. Just yesterday, I was doing a side quest for the minute men dude and on our way I came across a legendary Deathclaw behind a house, but I thought it was a mirelurk at first glance through the windows of the house (can't remember the location but it was near water) until the beast rounded the corner just about on top of me, luckily dogmeat was closer and he distracted the beast long enough for me to run for the hills. I eventually killed him but it took a while.

Once he jumped the last moment to bite a feral ghoul, while I was shooting my cranked up double barreled shotgun. I saw a piece of dogmeat's meat fly in the air, and then I could see the red flesh of that pup.

But having npcs getting in your way while you fight enemies is a tradition. I remember hitting Emperor Uriel Septim numerous times while attacking the Mythic Dawn assassins in those sewers.

My biggest problem with dogmeat is the fact that he always gets in your way and blocking doorways

While enemies are tangled up with Dogmeat they are not attacking me.

For this reason more than any other he is very useful.

He got me that fancy gun in the Master Locked cabinet in vault 111.

I can't really fault the guy even if he is a complete rip off from the dog in "Fable 2".

I think he's great, he gets rid of that lonely feeling while exploring but isn't as obtrusive as human companions. Not to mention you can still reap the benefits of the lone wanderer perk with his as a follower, this makes him one of the best companions in my opinion.

It is not only Dogmeat but the other companions whom I dislike as well, for one main reason.

When I'm setup to take a shot, every one of the companion has - at one point or another - walked in front of me, obscuring the target. Every one. That is the most annoying bit about them.

A minor annoyance is when they will not stay still in one spot on their own. They are constantly moving around which is troubling, to say the least. Even if I tell a companion to go to spot or wait, soon after they are moving around again.

If it weren't for the simple fact companions are great cannon fodder I'd be wandering the Commonwealth alone.

The companion AI in general is just horrific and needs work big time. Did the quest with the No-Nose ghoul chick and having 2 extra companions and a robot trying to get thru a bunch of narrow tunnels was one of the more frustrating gaming experiences I can remember.

I like Dogmeat. but he reminds me of my Polydactyl cat by blocking me in doorways. I instinctively stop or jump to avoid stepping on him!
