Alternative Attacks

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 6:39 am

I know Beth is greatly improving the combat, but one thing I would really like to see is alternative attacks, other then chop, slash and thrust.

I know they are making the different weapon skills more unique with blunt weapons being better against armour (through perks only?).

I'm thinking longsword specifically, that should I chose to have no shield I can preform alternative attacks such as Mordhau and half-sword thrusts (or perhaps take downs) against armored opponents. Anyone else?

Could be, could be. Wouldn't disregard it.

It would be cool if you could thrust your sword in mid air or maybe do a 360 then chop a guys arm off. (Perks only, ofc) And DON'T make the attack animations like jrpgs, lol. I'm not forcing you, Bethesda, I'm just making ideas. I can be a litte eagor.

Yea, that's what I fear... Jrpg style finishers...

And button taping sequences...

I'd rather have the typical Oblivion/Fable "swing side to side repeatedly" then the Zelda/Megaman Zero "three hit combo, three hit combo, three hit combo..."

Nothing against any of those games.

Anyway, I know what you're talking about, but I would assume it would be hard to implement 20 different attacks onto 2 buttons.

Well. I am a Iaido practionner and real-life swordplay does not ressemble any JRPG nor what you see in Elder Scrolls. In Oblivion I swung a katana the same way I swung a 30 pounds greatsword. But whatever, I got used to it. I prefer doing it the wrong way à la Oblivion thnt doing stupidly crazy moves like in JRPGs. I understand why they wouldnt do it differently for different types of swords, and Elder Scrolls isnt really about asian culture.

Im expecting gruesome american-style finishing moves that, while not being very realistic, is still much better than fancy stuff you see in JRPGs.
