Major sigh.

Having problems here. I'm trying to patch the game, but it just won't work.
First, I mount DFCD as a CD (D:), then the install folder as a harddrive (C:).
I then simple type dag213 and the patching starts. It works just fine, and it prompts me for a "y" 3 times,
but after that it just asks me to insert a CD and stops, no matter what.

What am I doing wrong here?

When I type install it says its an illeagal command everything before that worked fine. I think this did need more specific instructions these guides should be made for noobs not people who know how to use the program. nuff said

^Did you install 7zip?

I do not recommend you use the brendan11 of the text. I recommend addtext from uesp instead. Brendan is more of a parody, and addtext is more like the actual text you'd see in Daggerfall

I removed it from the guide, as I've never used it before and figured it wasn't beneficial unless one has already seen all of the dialogue.

It was written for "noobs" by someone who knows how to use the program. If I was typing a guide for people who already knew how to use the program, that would be rather redundant, wouldn't it? "nuff said"

Illegal command means you're typing a command that doesn't exist in the directory you're in. Go back over the instructions carefully, because you're obviously missing or mistyping a step.

Ahh fixed it. but the Wiki website is down to get the questpak and such... Anywhere else I can download it, or when is the wiki going to be back up?

You can probably Google another place to get the Questpak from. I don't know of any specific sites that might host it, as I myself haven't installed it yet.

From the first post :
4.) Install the patch by typing

CODE
dag213

Answer "yes" to any prompts it may give you. We're getting close, but not out of the water yet.

5.) Actually launching the game is where most people seem to get tripped up, so I'm going to offer an alternative solution. Instead of mounting the Daggerfall CD, we're going to change one character in the "z.cfg" file to point Daggerfall to its own directory. Close DOSBox and go to the directory where Daggerfall is installed; assuming you followed this guide, that directory would be "C:\dosgames\dagger\"

Double-click "z.cfg". If it asks you what program to open this file with, choose Notepad.

Find where it says pathcd d:\dagger\arena2 and change it to pathcd c:\dagger\arena2

This is a cheap but effective way of getting the game to run. DOSBox has come a long way but Daggerfall is a finicky game and CD emulation is still not perfect. This will not display movies. To get movie output, you'll have to copy the contents of the "dfcd\dagger\arena2" folder to the "c:\dosgames\dagger\arena2" folder. You'll probably get a prompt saying that the original files are about to be overwritten; this is fine.

I strongly advise to NOT do that in this order.

The daggerfall 213 patch will unpack several files into the ARENA2 folder of your Daggerfall install, not checked which ones, but they probably will replace buggier version of existing files.

Now if according to the method in the 1st post of this thread, you copy paste the content from the DFCD into your Daggerfall install AFTER you have applied the patch 213, chances are very great that you will overwrite patched files by the original ones that were buggier as they were unpatched, leading into possible bugs that you should not experience anymore after patching to 213.

So copy paste the content of the ARENA2 DFCD into your Daggerfall install BEFORE applying the patch 213.

As I recall, and I could be wrong, the only thing that you're copying over are the movies and audio files....and I don't think those were the cause of the bugginess.

However, a cheap fix...if you did follow those instructions, would be to run the patch file again. It would then overwrite any wrongdoing.

This is a good point.

I made an amendment to the instructions, basically saying to install the patch again. It would make sense that it overwrites some of the more important quest files, and I don't want anyone getting halfway through and realizing their saved game is borked.

You're not alone, I have a similar problem, (it crashes after the 3rd ''Y'') which I posted in a different thread. I hope for a solution too, as I never got the chance to try that game and it looks fantastic. Let's cross fingers! This forum is full of skilled people.

Hum, for your specific problem, I think it is because you didnt mount the ''d'' corectly. You have to copy the exact path.

For example mine was MOUNT D C:\Documents\DOS\DFCD
Since you manage to get the patch to start, that means the other part was well done.
( I suppose you did MOUNT C C:\Dagger )

Edit : Now my installation and patch work. ^^ I'm so excited starting that game!

I am really enjoying this game except for one problem, whenever I try to save it crashes, and it says the error reported was duplicate quest map ID. I am not too computer savvy, can someone help me with this?

Thank you very much for the guide. It was wholly necessary because the other guide didn't work for me at all.

I did successfully install the game, but something's seriously wrong. At the main screen, where it has a set of options including "Start New Game," it seems to freeze. My mouse won't select anything. After trying to make the keyboard work and seeing nothing highlighted or anything, I just punched random buttons and it finally went to the next screen, asking me to select my home province. The arrow in the top left was blue, which looked to me like it was highlighted. From there, I couldn't do anything. Are there keys I'm supposed to hit here or what? This happened twice, the same way both times.

Sorry, but I'm extremely confused by this. Thanks.

Hint: The red letters beginning each word on that screen are hot keys, i.e. Load Saved Game, Start New Game, and Exit.

Once you are in the game you can press Esc, click on controls and then remap them as you see fit.

Edit: typo.

I like Brendan2.rsc. It is the "straight" version of Brendan11. Fits in quite well without being immersion breaking.

I don't like either. They don't format properly for me, many of them line break at odd places and whatnot.

I've downloaded Brendan2. I've got two files:

Brendan2
.DS_Store

The first one I just rename it to text, but what do I do with the ".DS_Store" file?

EDIT: On second thought...I hate line breaks.

Also, cool avatar.

Have no clue about the .DS_Store file. I didn't install it. Brendan2 is much better than Brendan11. No silliness. Not sure about the page breaks comment. Most times I can't tell whether I am seeing a Brendan passage or a Bethesda passage.

The .DS_store file is made by OS X and is used to keep track of icon positions and the like. You can safely delete it.
