Alternative for boring building scavanging

Post » Sat Dec 19, 2015 1:20 pm

Hi.

This game is great but lately scavenging has become really boring. I take out all the enemies from the building using stealth, then I exit my pa, turn on the pipboy lantern and start gathering the junk I need for materials.

This gathering will take MORE time than actually killing the enemies and lately it has become really boring and time consuming, not letting me enjoy the game as much. Sure, looking for magazines, bobbleheads or safes is useful, but collecting the junk....meh.

Is there an alternative for it ?

I saw that settlers can gather junk, but can they also gather the rare materials junk ? Only at Sanctuary I have ~20 settlers, at other settlements I have a maximum of 3. If they could gather all I need maybe I could populate all my settlements and give up picking up junk, enjoy the game more.

Build a couple of scavenging stations and assign settlers to them. They will add stuff every day.

Why not collect junk as you go through killing the enemies?

That way you only have to make one trip through the place.

There are a few ways you could do it. 1. There's no need to take everything, most people end with piles of junk and money they'll never use. Just take what you can carry no need to exit PA just grab whatever as you go. Unload once after a building and go to another building. Dont spend too much time just move on to another. You dont need everything, there is plenty. 2. Take only what you need or seems valuable. For me at the end it's oil and aluminum, possibly adhesive and balistic fiber. Screws and other bits pile up anyway. 3. Trade, get both barters and some supply either water or jet and after you go drop off some amount of junk then take the water and trade for everything the junk dealers got. Unless you really want something now like you're missing some screws for a mod you want dont worry about it. You can also buy shipments. Having some steady economy helps you not feel bad about buying stuff.

Thanks. I will just stick to looting only bodies from now on.

So basically they will gather whatever I gather from buildings, even what I find in containers, like ammo, fusion cores, right ? Or only junk ?

Is 10 scavenging stations enough to keep the things I need flowing at the rate I was scavenging them ?

Settlers at scavenging stations only add junk to your workbench. This has a much greater effect if you have supply routes between many settlements and each linked settlement has a couple scavenging stations.

Selling the guns you loot for material shipments is another way to go. The shipments are weightless until you deposit them into a workbench at which point the supplies get "delivered."

Cause I play stealth and some places require turning on the pipboy light to see the junk. Also, many times while I was gathering junk, the enemies came from behind as I was concentrated on damn objects.

Strong Back perk maxed out is a godsend for pack rats. Carry an infinite amount of junk and still fast-travel home with it, but managing your action points if there's still combat can be tricky.
