Altmer (High Elf) - Imperials or Stormcloak?

Post » Sat Jun 02, 2012 9:50 am

hey everyone,

I just made what might be my favorite character ever.

The only issue is that he is a Altmer, so how should I feel about the Thalmor for RP purposes? Do I like them and try to support the empire and the Aldumeri Dominion or should I strive to sabotage them. My character plans on taking politics very seriously as a sophisticated scholar who travels across Skyrim looking for knowledge.

Thanks!

I will kill any Altmer on my way.

How they dare to give order to us, the imperials and tell us what to do and even worse, ban Talos.

There are also enough Altmer who are against the Thalmor (The Psijic, and the writer of that book of which I forget the name are examples) so take a stand I guess..

Being against the Thalmor might be better for quests since you often do things they don't like and you can't join them.

I played a Altmer who sided with the Stormcloaks, pretty fun.

My Altmer mage is with the thalmor, wears thalmor robes, and sided with the Imperials. My RP-ing self decided she is not dragonborn, and as such, I have not and most likely will not do any of the MQ or use any dragonshouts (which I will most likely get none of, because I believe dragons don't spawn until you kill the first one outside Whiterun).

It's all up to you whether you play an Altmer who supports the Thalmor and joins one side only for sabatoge or genuinely helps one side to fight against the Thalmor. You could join a side amd ensure maximum casualties on all sides or let the Civil War rage on.

My personal choice for my Altmer Spellsword will be against the Thalmor through joining the Empire. I was inspired to do so after speaking with the Altmer Legate Fasendil in the Rift Imperial Camp south of Ivarstead.

I just wish I could convince Ulfric to work with the empire to destroy the thalmor
no one really stoped worshiping Talos, but everyone i pretending not to and when the empire is strong enough they will launch another
war against the Thalmor....would be a lot easier if there were more than one army supporting them

It is in the Thalmor's interests that neither party wins, so siding with neither ensured long-term Thalmor victory.
If you do not care about the Thalmor, I recommend siding with the Empire. Stormcloaks may accept worthy elves but you'll be pretty lonely in Stormcloak Skyrim. Also, a united Empire is the best bet against the Dominion.

I think it'd be more logical to side with the Imperials, since Ulfric Stormcloak isn't too keen on anyone who is not a Nord (have a look at the big Dunmer district in Windhelm, for example).

empire and independent skyrim could technically ally themselves with hammerfall and the empire.

Any way as an altmer i would side empire, stormcloaks might accept you because your a badass, but i doubt any altmer wants to hang out with nords all day.

As for the thalmor, i would side against them, (they oppose my fictional religion lol) they seek to destroy the world, and you don't want that to happen do you? Plus if your prothalmor your quests might be sevearly limited, ex no collage quests. Plus Many (or maybe a small minority of) elves don't like the thalmor

Check out the books http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Rising_Threat,_Vol._I either from the link or find them in-game. The Thalmor is a government being an Altmer in no way means your allied with them.
For my own High Elf I sided with the Imperials based on the logic that a united Empire stood a better chance of defeating the Thalmor and liberating the Summerset Isles.

Did the same with one of my chars. Now RPing a Thalmor sympathizer which is actually impossible in this game. Almost every major quest you get involved with them in a negative way. Missed opportunity IMO but the game is more geared to playing a Nord anyway. Setting usually makes the game more in line with the dominant culture.
Altmer are really outsiders in Skyrim.

My Altmer stops being a healer/certified halo wearer to kill Thalmor without mercy or hesitation. That's because in my rp her father is one of the nobles, arrogant, overbearing and cruel. She will probably side with the Empire, not just because it makes sense in the long term, but because the choice between Elisif of Ulfric on the throne is no choice. Sorry Ulfric, but this time it's personal. I just don't like you.

My Altmer (my next character) will be siding with the Imperials. I'm still deciding between two scenarios: a) the Thalmor want the Imperials to win- a stalemate is good, but that risks Ulfric winning. B) a rebel Altmer who hated the Thalmor waiting on the sidelines.

Agreed with the Thalmor RP thing. It forced me to edit my RP into "Thalmor Outcast" where I act against them as usual but only when necessary, as my character knows in person some of the Thalmor having been one once himself.

Whether or not you support them depends on personal preference, but if you do, just let the war go on, because that's what they want.

Who says you have to like both the Thalmor and the Empire? Play a Thalmor-hating Legion supporter if you like, or join the Stormcloaks for the laughs.

an altmer as a stormcloak seems pretty difficult, because they would probably think that you are a spy.

I'm guessing there are many Altmer who are against the Thalmor. The same is with the Bosmer. I think the upper ruling people of the Bosmer are respected amongst the Thalmor and many support them, but the poorer commoner of the Bosmer are seen as bad blood and have faced much persecution from the Thalmor's occupation of Valenwood.

Depends on how you wish to play. High Elves in general are probably more likely to side with The Thalmor, and The Imperials by proxy. But more because they feel that they OWN The Empire, after the White Gold Concordant. If you're playing more as a mage character I'd definitely side with the Thalmor in your head, anyway. :)

Looks like I'll go with the Imperials then. Thalmor or not, I just went to Windhelm and Ulfric's favoritism towards Nords are unacceptable in the eyes of my Altmer. So he will use the Imperials as a tool to fulfill his personal vendetta.

thanks for all the feedback guys!

I'm roleplaying an anti-Thalmor resistance agent. Because she is trying to keep a low profile (oh hey Greybeards, thanks for ruining that), she won't pick sides until she sees Ulfric's dossier and realizes that she can help put an end to the civil war and thus deal the Thalmor a blow. Whether she'll side with the empire or Stormcloaks, I'm not honestly sure right now. I think she could go either way.

Did you talk to the Altmer in Windhelm? Niranye in particular has a different slant on things.

Well if that is not ignorant then I do not know what is. You do know not all Altmer support the Thalmor right? Quite a few are/were aginst it. Knowing the Thalor they are propably dead now.

It is in the Thalmor's interests that neither party wins, so siding with neither ensured long-term Thalmor victory.

Could not have said it any better myself. Though I would add on to the united Empire part that is also the best outcome for humanity in the long term.
