Altmer Surname

Post » Sat Oct 23, 2010 4:20 pm

Before I start this is probably in the wrong place.

So I need help of thinking of an Altmer surname. I know Altmer do not USUALLY carry last names but I want to create a bloodline for throughout Morrowind, Oblivion and Skyrim.

Any ideas?

Make the descendants have the name of the first character as their surname?

Let's say the first guy is Johnson, no surname. His kid, Steve, would then name himself as Steve Johnson, in honor of his great father, Johnson. Steve's kid would be named Jill Johnson, continuing the tradition. So on and so forth.

I dont think they got surnames. Maybe they would have names sounding similar like "Surinliwane" and "Suranoniano" and "Surinantorin". But altmer surnames dont exist as far as I know.

In lore they are actually Bosmer. But who would take a Bosmer bad guy seriously? So they changed it.

EDIT: http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:The_Refugees My source for Mankar being a bosmer.

The Direnni's were Altmer. So some do have surnames.

Someone who knows that pissing off a Bosmer = bone arrow through your heart, that′s right BONE, and that′s not all, they only eat meat all the time and they freaking devour the corpse of their fallen foes! How wild is that, oh and speaking of wild... when they are threatened in groups in their homeland they really go wild! Shift shape and go nuts tearing their enemies apart and they don′t even return from their insanity!

If there is any race that can be a bad guy, then the race is Bosmer.

Cannibals as in they eat other Bosmer or just any race?

They eat just about any race because of the Green Pact.

Green pact:
"A strict code upheld by the Bosmer of Valenwood, which prohibits the use of any wood or vegetable matter of Valenwood as building materials, and requires that Bosmer be strict carnivores. This non-vegetarian practice is part of the Meat Mandate, a section of the pact that also states a Bosmer must eat his fallen enemy; this cannibalistic nature sets them apart religiously from other nations. The Bosmer allegedly made the Green Pact with Y'ffre the Forest Deity in return for Y'ffre's patronage and perhaps protection. As a result, the Bosmer use bone, animal, and insect products widely; imported wood is used when necessary. There are also almost no cities or towns built by the Bosmer themselves."

This.
Have your first (Morrowind) Altmer called something like 'Hyarnarenqoon', then have the next Altmer called 'Athelor of Hyarnarenqoon', then the next one called 'Ierenalina of Hyarrnarenqoon', etc.

Direnni in Daggerfall, Aundae in Morrowind, & Mothril in Oblivion are all examples of Altmer surnames. I sort of did the same thing with my Altmer characters in Morrowind and Oblivion. The name I chose was Morinehtar, which means ‘darkness slayer’ in the Elvish tongue of Middle Earth.

Mostly they address themselves from where they hail. So like, Arille of Seyda Neen, for example. That's a way to identify them better since they don't use family names that often.
