Altmers

Post » Tue Dec 07, 2010 4:07 am

When i played like a mage i allways pick a breton , i think they are excellents and versatile magicians, far betters than their Mer arter Ego , the high elves. For one reason I think in the last games the supposed best wizard race on all tamriel (altmers) haven't the overwhelming arcane arts proficient they need by own right.

I rarely play Altmers but I voted that TES took another path in creating the races. I heard or read somewhere that all of the races will be more specific and unique. I'm not really sure what that means but I am looking forward to a change, especially Altmers and Orcs.

In skyrim they should go easier on weaknesess- One flare reduced my health to half playing an altemer

But isn't that what makes them interesting? You play Altmer, you have to avoid elemental damage or use shield spells.

Sure, they could go with something totally different and that would be fine, but whatever disadvantage is given should be a noticeable one.

Oh my god, the game actually became more difficult with a weakness? Well we can't have that, can we?

Then play a breton. Or enchant a few items to give you spell absorbtion or deflection. Or use specific damage type resist spells and potions when you fight certain enemies, ie. if you're fighting a Flame Atronach, use fire resist. If you're fighting a Frost Atronach, use cold resist.

That they are fragile is the price they pay for being the most naturally gifted in magic of the races. I think it was fair in OB, but I can't wait to see how they will be in Skyrim. Still like the Nord better(not flaming).

Responces like that will make the Moderators close this topic, so I suggest that you keep them too your personal conversations. No, I'm not arguing only stating facts.

Meh. If you're afraid of magic attacks then play a Breton. If you want supreme magicka potential and aren't afraid of enemy mages, then you should play as an Altmer!

They could keep the bonuses and weaknesses from Oblivion. The Altmer are supposed to be weak against magical attacks but by far the strongest magicians.

Altmer are fine as they are: great magical powers but are balanced with having low defense against Magic and Weaponry. Bretons are there for those who want to feel safer in return for weaker magical potential while Altmer are there for us who can stand the risks. We don't need two Breton races, now do we?

I voted for the biggest magica boost, but even greater weakness to elemental stuff. But at the same time the Bretons can't have 50 magicka boost and 50 magic resistance, but 50 magic boost and 40 magic resistance.

Altmer weren't even that fragile. They also started with 40 endurance instead of a breton's 30 after all. It's just that if you compare those two then the altmer seems vulnerable because of the breton's insane 50% magic resistance. There were more vulnerable races in the game like the Argonians and male Khajiit.

I'd say 100 magicka and only 10% weakness because noone will play them if the weakness is any more. Altmers need more of a weakness to physical damage and not magical.

I tried playing a Breton, but abandoned the character because I didn't like being invulnerable. I much prefer the more magicka/greater risk design of the Altmer.

Yes they should have weaknesses, I play female Altmer in OB, weakness to the elements and a strength and endurance of 30 are perfectly acceptable when you have so much magic at your fingertips. Bretons are overpowered, that 50% resistance is way over the top.

I very much doubt they will use a float magicka bonus this time as with a 50 level plus game we are talking 6-800 magicka at later levels....

Instead I think the cost of spells and the rate you can cast them and the effectiveness of them will be different such that altmer can count on magic more then most races can.

Frankly if I were them id make 50 racial perks for each race you get automaticaly as you level up so each race would become more and more different from the others as you progressed.
