[RELz] Alton, Illinois

Post » Fri Nov 18, 2011 4:11 pm

Looking truly amazing. I'm shocked that a modder can do something that obsidian could not (make gamebryo look good). Bethesda quality indeed. Hope the story and quests are of as high a quality as the scenery :P.

Thanks guys. The reason I've never really enjoyed New Vegas near as much as FO3 was because of the wasteland- the Mojave simply felt empty and unfinished compared to the Capital Wasteland. Glad to hear that you think I'm doing a bit better. :)

Hopefully releasing this month... after two and a half years of work. :P

Great! I'll be sure to check it out.

I can only imagine the work you have put into this... Alton, Illinois.
Historic. Plain and simple.

The main quest of Alton is complete, as well as all of the side quests, all Navmeshing (for the most part), and the ending videos. Get ready, guys!

Alright, Alton is officially feature-complete. What does this mean? It's simply bug finding and fixing from here, everything that is in the final release is complete. I have a few people doing playthroughs, so they can find and squash any bugs that show up.

Release this weekend? Maybe. Depends on if anything show-stopping shows up (which is unlikely). Either way, you'll be enjoying Alton VERY soon! :D

Hey man, I just wanted to congratulate you, this is a seriously impressive piece of work, and your dedication is truly admirable! I'm really looking forward to play it, it looks really high quality! Honestly, have you considered possibly applying for a job at Bethesda or another game developer/publisher? I think you'd be great at it, if you can produce something of this size on your own, even if it took like two and half years.

Over the past two years, I've been thinking about that more and more, and I've finally decided that that's what I'm going to go for. As soon as I get a degree, I'll be putting in an application. No doubt about that. :)

Bah, looks like it won't be this weekend. I'm still waiting one last voice actor to send me their lines, and I'm not going to release without them (they're part of a side quest, so it'd be noticeable). :(

Aha, got the voice files! Now I've just got to finish up bug testing (and putting these voice files in-game, of course... gotta love tedious renaming and converting! :P ).

Oh, and Wednesday? We'll see. Hopefully, but I can't guarantee that a bug might stump me for a bit.

I dunno if it was already discussed before due to my being relatively new to FO3 and its mods, but how companion friendly is this going to be? Because I use a number of companion mods to help balance out MMM's DPS settings, and I know new-area transport to the DLCs can be a bit of an issue with such companions...

Looks like a stable version of Requiem is about to come out, which means I've got a hankerin' for Illinois! Hope everything is going smoothly.

Heh, not so sure if my mod will work with Requiem, but it'd be neat to at least try! I've never used Requiem myself, so I'll leave the testing to you guys. ;)

Also, let's see if I can finish these bugs today. The main quest is split in two about halfway through with a big choice, and I just finished the bug testing for one of those two sides yesterday. Hopefully the other side will be just as easy.

EDIT:

@R.D.: At launch, Alton sends your companions back to their waiting locations, just like all DLC do. If somebody wants to make a mod to get them in Alton, they can do so. But companions would not work in the main quest (or at least not in parts of it), and Alton is really more about the relationship between you and one of two factions, so where would companions fit into that? Plus, it introduces the complications of the companions not having any new dialogue based on the situation (i.e. suddenly being thrown into Alton).

Again, I'm pretty open about what people can do with the mod. Feel free to add companions in, but I won't support it myself. :)

I'm fine with not bringing them along; I just needed to know if I should tell my mod-companions (like Bittercup and Sydney) to wait wherever. Some mod companions ignore the area-travel lockout of vanilla companions; I've seen Bittercup follow me onto Mothership Zeta. Now I know. :V

I would tell them to leave, to be safe. There is no universal "fire/tell to leave followers" script command, so it has to be done individually for each one. As I look back on the script, it took about 150 lines to make all of the vanilla companions leave. :P

Also, how about a release tomorrow? Sound good? Good. (I'm so damn excited to release, by the way)
