NICE MOD! now if only I wasn't so computer illiterate...

Don't worry about being computer illiterate, installation of Fallout 3 mods couldn't be easier. It's a simple copy/paste files into a folder, check off the mods you want to load, and play just like you would normally, but with added content.

As a side note, I received three 23" monitors in the mail that I had ordered from Newegg, and I've found the http://dl.dropbox.com/u/7481262/Desktop%2002.PNG

Unfortunately, I can only use two of them until I get my graphics card, but having two is still awesome, especially having a near full screen Render Window.

Anyway, progress on Alton is good- in the picture is a metro station in South Godfrey that you'll be able to visit. It's part of a side quest involving finding a lost loved one, which involves going through a flooded section of the tunnel to get to him.

I know, I tried downloading a gun mod, but then it was an error sign, so now I'm afraid of breaking my game by installing mods, and I didn't install FOMM correctly, so I can't use that.

Yeah, I see what you mean. Luckily, since Alton is a completely separate world from the Capital Wasteland, the chances of things messing up your saves is pretty low. ;)

Thanks! It definitely hasn't been easy, but it's been one of the most enjoyable experiences of my life... hopefully it'll all pay off a few years down the road when applying for jobs!

My god, the new screenshot of the bridge is amazing. Did you use custom meshes in it's creation, or is that all using vanilla resources?
Either way, I can't wait to walk across it.

Thanks! The bridge is from the Pitt, albeit without any of the "Welcome to the Pitt" signs or anything like that. ;)

This... is amazing.

This is what I miss about Fallout 3... the mods... the amazing work coming out of the community. So much of that has gone away, now... despite the fact that the demand is still there. It's good to see that there's still some folks who're dedicated enough to make something like this happen. I will definitely be downloading this the moment it becomes available. I'm always looking for new places to explore and survive.

Incredible work! Good to see a large project still being made for Fallout 3 and not dropped or moved to NV for once. Even though FO3 modding has slowed to a crawl and this modding board is rather quiet don't get discouraged, we still play FO3 :P

I hope you like what you see so far

Oh yes, I do.

That's why I can't wait to release it- FO3 modding has pretty much dried up. Hopefully this will either inspire other people to start it back up again, or serve as another world to host new mods in. ;)

Just thought I'd pop in here and let you know that your work really -has- inspired me.

Disillusioned with the instability of modding in New Vegas, I have decided to resurrect a previously shelved project of mine.

"Motor City Ruins" will take place in the former heart of the American Automotive Industry... and focuses not only on providing a sprawling, high-quality backdrop against which to explore and wage your own personal battles... but also providing a plausible and engaging plot which will take you from the 'Rizers of Downtown Detroit Metro to the highly radioactive crater of 'Ground Zero' in Ann Arbor.

The Midwestern Commonwealth has always been a fascination of mine. Being a native, I greatly enjoyed the fact that Fallout: Tactics took place so close to home. I spent a great deal of time modding locations into the game which resembled the dilapidated ruins of locations I am familiar with... and with Fallout 3... I wanted to follow along in that same spirit.

Detroit is a sprawling city spared from the Great War by chance.

But just as a lone survivor might find himself lost in the oceans of wasteland sand... so too does a lone city suffer the effects of isolation and hardship.

Anyhow... that's just a practice-intro for when I am ready to create an official WIP thread.

I'll probably only make one when I have the Downtown district finished... lest I engender a great deal of false hope should something catastrophic happen.

So there you go.

I just hope more talented folks than I have been inspired as well... because I tried to wrap my head around scripting once... and it took forever just to get some basic functions to work for me. I can't even begin to imagine how hard I would have to work to script a great, toxic haze of air pollution descending from the sky during the daylight hours... much less figure out how to create a script which cancels out the slow suffocating effects of the haze which could be applied to 'respirator' and 'sealed environment' types of armor pieces.

I'm really glad I inspired at least one person to revive a Fallout 3 project- I mean, starting the FO3 modding community back up would be great. :)

Also, to cancel out haze effects when you equip certain items, I'd attach a script to those items with a "Begin OnEquip" block. That way, you can remove certain effects or disable scripts the moment the player puts on the mask. I actually have something almost exactly like that in my mod- the moment the player unequips a gas mask in a certain interior, a "Begin OnUnequip" script starts, and a choking sound plays. The player slowly dies without the mask on. Feel free to PM me if you need script help, I'd love to assist a fellow FO3 modder!

I'm absolutely rubbish at scripting... so be warned! :hubbahubba: I might just come to you for assistance more often than you think.

At any rate, your description of the script sounds pretty much exactly like what I imagined... although the more I think about it the more I wonder if that might not be troublesome. My hope would be to make it so that the game could recognize if you were wearing a suit of power-armor, some sort of a respirator/re-breather thing, or other 'air-filtration headgear' and negate the effect of the haze when traveling outside during the day. But if the script has to be attached to the headgear thing... then that might break or interfere with certain pieces of armor or equipment.

Anyways, thanks for the offer to assist! I have no doubt in my mind... that I will be barraging you with questions before you know it!

Hope to get my hands on Alton, Illinois soon!

Fallout 3 is such a classic. It is good to see you modders getting reinspired again!

Heck, maybe we Devs will even realize how and why a game like FO3 remains so beloved and make us another one.
