The Nord culture is heavily based on the Norse culture. Sea monsters were a big part of norse culture. With this in mind, it would be a shame not to include some real sea beasts of legendary status.

What about a sea drake from the infernal city novel, it introdused it to TES lore and TESV takes place well after the time line of the book. Its like a crocodile, but with paddles instead of legs.
Also the infernal city novel added the Sheartooth to TES lore.
A fish found in the Sump on Umbriel; "maw full of teeth", at least fifteen feet long, long whip-like tail, dual swimming fins on the underside, "teeth would shame a shark", tough hide, soft belly; usually non-aggressive. It appears that a rare alchemy ingredient called "Sheartooth Loin" is harvested by Skraw for the kitchens of Umbriel.

Just some ideas, i think it would be sick to fight underwater. Blades would be a must for fighting underwater because a thrust attack would be the only really effective tactic.

No

Are you aware how slowly you could actually fight if you were really underwater. It was ridiculous in oblivion that you could swing a sword as fast underwater as you could out of it.
I would rather have a few hostile creatures and either no or very slow underwater combat so it would make stepping into water take you out of your comfort zone and feel threatened instead of overpowered for once. Water creatures should always have the natural advantage unless dovahkiin makes themselves a harpoon

stabbing would also be very effective, as opposed to swinging. Stabbing displaces less water.

A Dwemer-underwater-missile-projector (a DUMP) would be useful too.

Less Slaughterfish. Water Dreugh again. More peacful critters.

Imo.

It would also be nice to see the OCCASIONAL big, mega nasty. Such as a Kraken or what-not. They could also be used as a deterrent from going to far from shore.

We also need more interesting stuff down there. Ruins and shipwrecks. Pretty sure the only real underwater areas in Morrowind and Oblivion was Boethia's shrine.

What I keep saying...

I've posted this on other 'sea monsters' threads but it always stands out as the best underwater battle I've ever had in any videogame.

Admittedly, I doubt Skyrim could implement anything as massive and engaging but hopefully there will be creatures of surmountable size lurking in the Sea of Ghosts.

An underwater dragon would also be known as a Leviathan with giant fins rather than wings and should be included.
It could have a breath weapon/shout that boils the water your swimming in for massive damage.

Sharks would be awesome and was almost done in Oblivion but the modder for whatever reason finished the mod and never shared it.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PMEvHGQQMis - Video of his Shark Mod.

I would also like to see hidden underwater passages that lead into hollowed out Mountains where Dragons have made their lairs and of course treasure scattered around everywhere.

Your being chased by a dragon and there is a massive lake nearby so you dive in and swim down and are eaten by a Leviathan. Winning.

While it would be great to add more detail to under water enviroments, the only practical use for undwarter battles is for Argonians, who can breath underwater. In oblivion, I spent 99.9% of the game on land.

I did too but think about it like this
There was no real reason to go underwater on Oblivion. No submerged treasures, very few, and very weak enemies...

Now if they added some sunken treasure (and not like 50 coins and a ring but something worth having) and some better sea life to guard it I'd go for the occasional dip..

Don't forget some hidden underwater ruins and caves, like in Morrowind. That was awesome.

There was this island far far far out in the ocean in Morrowind. Tiny little island. But beneath it was a hidden entrance to an underwater cave. If you dived into it and went further, you discovered an ancient forgotten dwemer ruin. And there... you found something very very nice, I tell you :)

Stuff like that is just awesome and I hope to see something similar in Skyrim.

They should add like giant eels, or serpants, or drakes! Maybe a man-eating crustacean!

I don't have too many phobias, but one is expansive open water.. if they had orcas (killer whales) out in the furthest and biggest open waters (or anything large and mean) I would probably legitimately get uncomfortable and squirmy when playing.. but with that said, I approve of this idea.

+ 1 for Skyrim shaving years of my life off.

Just the thought of swimming in an ocean/giant lake/sea is enough to make e crap my pants. Thinking of a giant 60ft monster swimming around me.. that's enough to make me pass out :nope:

If they have giant sea monsters I'll be fairly creeped out. Especially since your movement will be so limited compared to on land! Ugh it's enough to make me nervous right here right now.

I think it would be scary as heck, but also fun and exciting. If it's too much for you, you can always just stay on land :P
Or use a water-walking spell... if that helps ^^

But sea monsters and such should be really rare. Only in deep waters should they be... very very rarely.

Other people have said this, but a water dragon or two couldn't hurt. They've confirmed multiple types of dragons already, and if the standard 'Fire Breathers' are the primary type I'd have to say a 'Water Dragon' would easily be secondary. Think about it, what else would there be? Earth dragon? Wind dragon? Maybe, but not quite as cool. Obviously there will be other types dealing with other shouts, but it would be soooooo badass if there was a dragon with a dragon shout dealing with water. Maybe some super high pressure focused water attack from the mouth that launches back enemies in a straight line and does more damage to fire creatures? Including the standard dragons? :D

I like the idea of water walking.. unless a dragon finds me and I have to submerge myself, or something can jump out of the water at me. :shakehead: Good things it's a video game.. I can conquer my fears now. :toughninja:

I would love a big, bad underwater boss that you have to go out of your way to find + more dangerous monsters.

I would love having to be afraid of the water.

It would be cool if you were running from a guard who was wearing plate and you were wearing light armor and you could swim and he couldn't, but you had to be afraid of getting eaten if you try to get away by swimming.

Yes please, something like http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_cQns-qO1Pks/TU1qc5y1k5I/AAAAAAAAA9Q/H9QEXLg0mSA/s1600/leviathan.jpg or http://www.furtales.com/as/ref/ref_Leviathan_by_Ruth_Tay.jpg , aka leviathans, would be awesome :P

P.S: I know those are on the sea, but I'm sure they could make some adapted ice version that dwell under the frozen lakes of Skyrim :cold:

I'm really hoping fishing is an activity like woodcutting, cooking, etc.

You'd think there's quite a handful of areas depending on the money flow brought by fishing industries. And since there'll probably be a few communities or a city depending on it I'm certain it'll be a job.

i would love to fight underwater monsters. in oblivion i always thought it was odd that there were nothing in the waters, no fish or anything. it would be awesome to fight a water dragon tho. it would be kind of boring to only fight land-based monsters and dragons.
