Always crashing and cant install patch 1.7 : Fallout 3

i just bought fallout 3 via games for windows marketplace and it keeps crashing so i tried installing the 1.7 patch and the bottom progress bar goes to 100% but the top one stays at 0 and then the game launches and then updater crashes.i have no idea what to do now.i have windows 7 64 with an ati radeon 5770 and a quad core.help

Is that the GOTY edition? If so, it's already fully patched.
