Always in PowerArmor

Post » Mon Dec 07, 2015 5:43 pm

not sure if this has been asked before or anything about powerarmor has been stated but Is it going to be possible to always wear our powerarmor. I know they use these new cores to power them and that these might be a rare thing to get. however if we have or can learn to make these cores could we have enough cores to power a suit endlessly. how long does one core last and could we if smart enough make one?

I doubt we will be able to use the PA all the time, more frequently perhaps, but not always, its clear its no armour anymore but a human shaped vehicle. And like other video game vehicles will most likely come with restrictions, for balance sake.

I find it likely that eventually we'll be able to go anywhere, do anything with it. After all, we can customise it, build it, and wear it out of our garage. What's the point of all that if it runs out of juice and you have to dump it? My gut says, yes, it'll be a full-hog battle pickup the first time we use it, to show off the absolute monstrous pain it can dish out. But it'll either be critically damaged or the core will be wrecked in the process. Then I reckon we'll need to track down replacement parts, as well as a fully-functional, non-improvised power core: the legendary 100-year nuclear battery. Then you'll get to wear it about.

I think it would be silly if it couldn't eventually always be used. It would be a huge deviation from every other Fallout game, and wouldn't be very practical. What if it ran out of juice out in the middle of no where, or deep in a base?

How would it even exist, soldiers wouldn't be able to function if their armor had short use. On the bright side, however, it looks like we may be able to wear more conventional armor under it.

Well, Power Armor's also incredibly more powerful this time around, is the thing. It seems like even once the power concern is mitigated and you get Power Armor that no longer requires a battery, it still has a health rating and you have to repair it at a workstation. So we may not get to a point where we can wear Power Armor 100% of the time (for better or worse), we can get pretty close.

I hope not. It's been shown and is supposed to be used as a wearable vehicle. I'd hope there are buildings we can't wear it indoors. And it looks like from at least the beginning, we will be limited by a power supply

If you have the perks/resources to build and maintain a higher tier suit, you should be able to wear it anywhere.

I don't think it has to be "tankish" to the point where venturing around the map is impossible. What function does it serve then? A "once a day" power would be pretty lame.

Again, in-lore the power cells can last over 1000 years. Why would it degrade extremely rapidly now, other than shoehorning "Balance" into a single player game? If I want to wear Power Armor all day, every day, let me. If you don't, then don't; it's your choice.

Get multiple suits and give to all your settlement guards. Huzzah!

I know you could arm your followers in FO:NV with power armour if you could get your hands on enough suits.

Her definitely but I'm sure I also gave one to Boone and Raul. I could be wrong, it's been a while. I can jump in later and test it out.

Did companions sound like they were taking your drive-through order while wearing power armor in NV? They did in Fallout 3 and it was amusing.

I'm going to take a guess and say Power Armor might overheat which would make far more sense. It is nuclear powered and pushing it past it's limits might cause it to shut down to prevent a time bomb. Or we could just say balancing reasons and leave it at that. I prefer to think it's the former.

Probably not at first, but probably as the game goes on. The game might also balance it by spawning in tougher enemies while you're in power armor. That deathclaw opening up a grate and climbing out of the ground makes me think that the noise from the armor will attract them.

Veronica and Raul definitely can wear Power Armour. I think I killed or lost Boone in the play through I have that has Power Armour when I sided with the Legion.

Probably, I wouldn't mind if the limitation was a Condition thing as seen in previous games, and I had to scavange Fission Batteries and Scrap Metal to keep it going, which is a fair Balance that would require a good repair skill to acomplish.

I just don't want to see players that want to use Power Armor more Exclusively be handicapped in their ability or robbed of their Roleplays. Either way, now that Next Gen Consoles will have Mods allowed in them, I'm sure that any limitations on Power Armor will be modded out upon release of the Creation Kit/GECK.

Power armors ran on micro-fusion cells. In the trailer were the Lone Survivor gets the Power Armor near the Verti-bird, he put a cell into the hatch and then opened the suit.

I think the new power armor (T-60, right?), which is more like a personal mech suit/armor, may be more limited than the older T-45s and T-51s. I imagine that if/when we run across the standard gamut of power armors* (T-45, T-51, Enclave Advanced, and Enclave Tesla) they'll have the same mobility they've always had.

So it's entirely possible that you won't be able to march across the wastes in your customized T-60 armor. I mean, it doesn't really seem like the sort of thing you'd use all the time. Then again, that does seem to run counter to the exploration-based gameplay that Beth loves so much.

Perhaps there will be some quest/questline that would enable the T-60 to go everywhere. You know what? Yeah, that's how I'd do it. I'd put the macguffin that let's you use the T-60 whenever towards the end of the main questline.

*Not based on the T-60 frame that the protagonist has. Unless they're retconing all the armors. In which case I'd hope there are no limits.

I agree I love the idea of wearing the PA all the time and marching around kicking ass. Id hate if it was just some boost armor that could only be used once and awail. I like the idea of needing to gather fuel or batteries to power it and needing to have a level of skill in science and repair.

If not like you said I can wait for the mods to fix it.

I'm thinking there is going to be a LOT of PA wearers that this game is going to disappoint. To be honest, I only use PA on one playthru I did and found it sorely lacking in what I was looking for in a game experience. Never put it on again. My hope is that this new direction with PA (as a uber-vehicle rather than clothing) will actually get me to use PA for more than barter material or a lots of weight in storage container somewhere.

This PA to me looks more like a vehicle. If I was ever to wear PA I'd want it smaller like in FO3/NV.
