Ambient Noises

Post » Mon Jul 19, 2010 2:40 pm

Anyone been noticing any of the weird ambient noises you can hear in Fallout:New Vegas. I just reached the brothel the "Casa Madrid" and you can hear women screaming (in a good way) and the graveyards are full of ghost noises etc

This is a great achievement to me and was wondering if there were anymore things like this > :)

I hear whispering all around me all the time, every now and then someone says "sshhh" it's actually quite un-nerving when you're in a dark cave or vault and you hear that, especially if you don't have followers. Don't know whether that's because I have that wild west perk though.

The whispers happen without the Wild West perk.

Vault 22 has some of the best ambient sounds and noises I've heard since Dead Space. Not saying they're better, cause Dead Space is in a league of it's own with that stuff. They're just done very well. Wish they would've kept more of the music from Fallout 3 though. Not a big fan of what Inon Zur did with the music for this game.

I agree!
Both Vault 22 and 34 ... along with the Dunwich Building from FO3 ... rank right up near Dead Space as far as creepy ambient sound. There have actually been a couple of times I've caught myself looking behind the couch.
Also, the whispering around graveyards seem to float through our home theater system and sound like they're coming from everywhere! :cold:

Some of the ambient sounds are great.

Some of them are just plain stupid. For example: the crowd noise you hear when walking through a casino that has only 4 people milling about the main floor.

The sounds are, in general, an inspired collection of real life.

Now, after saying that, I am really tired of the breaking glass in Freeside. I mean come on, if there was that much glass breaking we would all be cut to ribbons!

Maybe the sounds are glitched in my game but every 15 to 20 seconds, while in Freeside, I get breaking glass.

Yeah, and the woman screaming right after. Cool, but a little to repetetive.

And on a side note; it's funny that everybody says the NCR troops waste all there caps at the casinos during there free time, yet you never see them in there.

I have noticed the breaking glass, but I usually have my own music playing simply to avoid being creeped out.

 I don't have surround sound or anything fancy (just my desktop speakers and headphones) but walking through the graveyard at Forlorn Hope the whispering sounds like it's over my right shoulder (which is where the door to the hallway is). That can be a little creepy at 2am

One of the things I enjoyed greatly, and it jumped right out at me, were the sounds (somewhat musical in nature) that were straight out of FO and FO2. I've already thanked the Obsidian folks in a couple other threads for that one. They are mixed into the ambient music out in the wasteland.

I've always thought the "techno/trance" like Fallout 1+2 music just fit so well in the Fallout games. When I heard them in NV, my "immerse-o-meter" went straight to 11. :mohawk:

Too true. :sadvaultboy: What is also bothersome is the invisible line you cross that either activates or deactivates the crowd noise. There's no fade to silence, just an abrupt cut off which makes things even worse.

Others have mentioned the inclusion of FO 1 & 2 sounds but since I haven't played either game, anyone care to point a few of them out?
