Thank you all. I hope people continue to use my website, if not, I'll shut it down. I'm unsure if anyone even cares for it. While it may be new, I was hoping that it could continue to grow. Well, anyway, here's the next chapter, and my personal favorite yet. I hope you all enjoy it, because I honestly consider it my best yet. Though it's up to you, the readers, to decide that.
Chapter 18
Detention Cell B2
December 25th, 2277
0300 Hours It has been almost two days since being put in his cell. Adams was already starting to go insane. With loss, failure, betrayal and disappointment eating away at him. He screamed at the top of his lungs, and banged his head against the wall as hard as he could to make it all go away from his mind.
The knock to the head was stronger than he first thought it would be, and knocked him down. He was dizzy and laying on the floor. Soft sounds pinged through the cell. Adams slowly looked around the room, trying to figure out what was causing it.
A dim light of fire began to cut through the roof slowly, in a small circle, large enough for a man to slip through. The circle connected with the beginning, and the metal roof that was cut fell down, and slammed next to Adams. He eyed the roof with interest, still dizzy.
He slowly began to laugh as he saw a dark figure slip through the hole and land next to him.
“Echo Sq-,squad?” whispered Adam softly.
The figure laughed, and kicked Adam in the gut.
“No,” replied a heavy masculine voice. “The one you left to die in Vault 87.”
Adam was confused. He didn’t leave anyone behind in Vault 87 except for the Lone Wanderer.
“You’ve got to be kidding me…” sighed Adams.
The Lone Wanderer kicked his in the gut again, while Adams cried out in pain. A loud banging was heard from the door.
“Shut up in there.” Yelled out the guard.
Lone Wanderer kneeled down to Adams, and whispered in his ear. “I’m going to make you pay for what you did to me and the Brotherhood.”
Adams tried to throw a punch at him, but he was way too confused to know what he was doing. The Lone Wanderer ignored this, and kicked Adams again.
He cried out, and yelled. “Help!”
The guard banged on the door again. “I said, shut it! Or I’ll get in there and kick your ass.”
The Lone Wanderer looked at Adams with annoyance, and pulled out a tranquilizer.
“Help! Someone!” cried out Adams. The guard was annoyed, and opened the door. He was startled to see the Lone Wanderer.
“Hostile spotted!” he cried out and raised his Laser Rifle. The Lone Wanderer quickly raised his new SMG and fired off six rounds, all sliced through the guard. He couldn’t even cry out before he dropped to the floor, dead. Three nearby guards rushed towards the room, and began to fire.
The Lone Wanderer moved to the side and quickly side stepped the lasers, and fired off, killing two. The third guard radioed for assistance. Now was the chance for the Lone Wanderer to charge towards him and pushed his gun straight into the face of the soldier before he could react, and fired off three rounds, splattering the helmet with blood and gore over the wall.
The Lone Wanderer turned around and looked at Adams, extremely annoyed. “I’ll be back, and you will pay.” He quickly ran off and jumped over the dead bodies.
Adams struggled to move, his body sore, and coughing up blood. Firing could be heard from outside, and soon silence. Four guards kicked down the door and stormed in.
“Move, move, move! Spread out and find him!” shouted the commanding officer of the team. They scanned the area, and soon checked room by room. They came up to the room where Adams was. One soldier walked over to him and examined him.
“Sergeant, what do we do with him?” inquired the soldier as he turned his head towards his leading officer.
The Sergeant tilted his head, and looked at the dead bodies, and sighed. “Leave him, get the medic over here to help clean up the scene, and lock this room back down. He’s in this cell for a reason.”
Adam tried to hold his hand out towards them, gently grasping the soldier that stood close to him, trying desperately to whisper that he needed help.
The soldier looked down at Adam and whispered that he was sorry.
“Private, get away from that trash.” Ordered the Sergeant. The Private stood up and walked out of the room. The two guards and Sergeant stood there watching Adams.
“You piece of crap. You let fifty men die at The Pitt, and now six more here.” Cursed the Sergeant. He moved over, and began to lift his foot up, about to strike Adams with his boot.
Before he could strike Adams, a small object landed nearby.
“Grenade!” shouted a soldier. They tried to move, but it went off. Adam closed his eyes, and felt a surge of cold air blast past him. He heard the crackle of freezing happen and felt his entire body cold and shuddering. Opening his eyes, he saw the Sergeant and the two soldiers frozen.
He was shocked. What the hell just happened? He couldn’t feel his fingers. Looking down, they were frozen too. Adam was scared and afraid, what was happening?
Two troopers in Hellfire armor burst through the door, while a third came through and a fourth covered the rear.
“Forge, Jackson, get the Sergeant.” Barked Griffin. They ran over and grabbed the Sergeant, while lifting him up, they used an odd little device to warm him up and removed the freezing effect.
“Cryogenic effect removed, ma’am.” Replied Forge. They lifted Adams up and began to carry him outside in the shadow. They lurked to the side, and ran towards the landing pad. Hope had it’s engines running and ready to go. They boarded up inside, while six nearby troopers charged toward them, firing their lasers. Simpson turned around and fired off four shots, two sliced through one trooper, killing him.
She jumped on board, but a laser hit her in the shoulder. She cried out, and became angry. Taking out another grenade, she threw it towards them, and a large blast of white light engulfed them. When it was done, they were on the ground, frozen in place.
Jackson closed the door, and nodded to the pilot and co-pilot. They began to lift off. Inside the Vertibird was that one soldier from before that said he was sorry to Adams. Another Vertibird took off with them and follow close by. The pilots talked to one another, obviously another allied Vertibird. Suddenly, three rockets flew by and almost hit the trailing Vertibird. Another Vertibird on the ground took off after them, and fired their lasers. The trailing Vertibird guarded Hope and fired back.
Adam watched as the lasers sliced through the enemy Vertibirds cockpit, igniting it on fire and causing it to lose control and slam into the ground, exploding it a blind light.
“Thanks for the assist, Freedom.” Replied the pilot. Adams looked up at Simpson as she began to inject Adams with stimpacks. The soothing feeling of warmth and relaxation rushed through his body. Adams took one last deep breath, and smiled.
Griffin stared at Adams. “How is he, Simpson?” she whispered.
Simpson smiled and replied to Griffin, “He’ll live. He always does.” She then lowered herself close to Adams and whispered in his ear, “I told you I’d get the squad…” and softly kissed him on the cheek.
