America's Last Hope

Nah, they were nearby on a hill somewhat, that's where the Forward Outpost was, and the new rifle had advanced scope to shoot the raider. Then they took a Vertibird over the bridge and over the steelyard towards the place where the Raiders live.

Also, the Lava Rifle shoots a liquid lava-like stuff. It's not napalm per say, but somewhat close. It's hard to explain. Lets just say it has the accuracy of a laser, punching power of a plasma rifle to go through their armor, and the napalm power to light them on fire.

Also, thanks AngryMoose! :)

I'm surprised people still seem to enjoy the story. Since you all want it, here's the next chapter early, because you're all awesome readers! :tops:

Chapter 13
The Pitt Steelyard
December 20th, 2277
1450 Hours

We must clean the path for America. The Enclave and the Vault’s population are the only pure humans left, and we must make sure we continue our survival.” Adams smiled, he enjoyed this next part. “By the order of the President, you are hereby terminated. Any last words?”

“Yes. You have chosen your allies poorly.”

Adams was confused by this statement, he was not expecting something so confusing.

“Clancy, take care of this trash.” He ordered. Adams waited for a few seconds, nothing happened. “Clancy?” he turned around. Clancy’s gun was pointing at him, with Griffin nearby on the floor, knocked unconscious.

Adams was shocked, he looked at Clancy. Words could not describe the betrayal he felt. What the hell was going on?

“I’m sorry, Sergeant.” Whispered Clancy.

He put his finger on the trigger. Adams closed his eyes. He then heard a loud sound that echoed through the bedroom.

Bang.

Adams woke to the sound of a nearby explosion. Looking around, he noticed a few mutated creatures from hell surrounding him. Their skin was pure horror of rotten, mutated skin. They were trying to bit his Hellfire armor. He quickly scrambled back, kicking at them with his foot. They made a disturbing sound, and many more started rushing towards him.

He quickly turned over, and tried to get up and run when one of them tackled his leg. He yelled, and tried to shake it off.

“Get the [censored] off me!” he shouted, beginning to panic.

Nearby, his LRE1 “Lava” Rifle was on the ground. He reached out for it, and grabbed it. Upon grabbing it, he turned around and took one good shot in the face of the creature. Its face completely melted in and its entire body lit up in a ball of flame. It screamed loudly and ran around, twitching. It fell over, dead. The others stopped, and snarled, slowly surrounding Adams. Fear overtook him, and he fired off multiple shots at all of them, incarnating four of them. The others watched this and quickly moved off to a distance, but still close enough for the attack if needed.

Four more charged towards him, and he fired at them, while one tackled him from behind and bit into a weak spot in his arm armor, he grunted in pain and tossed the creature off. It got up, snarled at him, and cried out loudly. Soon, Adams could hear the cries of dozens of the beasts, charging towards his location. He picked up his rifle and prepared himself.

The beast charged back at him again, and he shot it. The creature exploded into a ball of light that was horrifying yet amazing to watch in the dark light glow. Adams turned around, and slowly backed himself up against the wall. He prepared himself for what would soon become a fight or die moment.

He moved slowly and softly to the shadows, when a large blinding light surrounded him, causing the mutated creatures from hell to scatter off. He couldn’t see a thing, but heard a voice.

“Relax, you’re safe from the Trogs now.” Said a voice from someone off in the distance.

“Who are you?” cried out Adams as he tried to shield his eyes.

“My name is Wernhner, leader of these brave slaves and ruler of this land. Why are you and your people attacking us?” asked the voice, in an irritated tone.

“Under the order of President John Henry Eden, we are to rule these factories as our own.”

His eyes began to adjust to the light, and he could see an outline of a figure far away on a ledge.

“Like hell you will.”

Two other figures came out of no where and grabbed onto Adams arm, and forced him down onto his knees. His body was too weak from the fall and attacks to fight against these two in melee combat.

“Execute him.” Ordered Wernher.

The second guard pulled Adams rifle away from him. Adams tried to reach for it, but he couldn’t. The first one tore off his helmet while the second one pressed it against Adams skull. The LRE1 was very hot against Adams skull, and he yelled out in pain. The guard smiled noticing this, and told his buddy to slice a few parts of Adams cheek to hear him yell again.

Wernher grunted approvingly, and they continued to torment him. One of them slammed what Adams believed to be a large metal pole into his armor, knocking out his breath.

One of them pulled out what appeared to be a laser pistol, and set it against his chest, firing. The laser ripped through Adams armor and sliced through his body like a hot knife through butter. The laser only missing his heart and lungs by inches. They took his rifle again and laid it against his head again, ready to deal the finish blow.

Before the rifle could go off, the second guard exploded into a cloud of pink and red gore. The first guard was started, and soon he did as well.

Looking around, he noticed Wernher fighting against two people; he wasn’t sure who they were, probably Enclave members coming to his rescue.

One of the soldiers tackled him to the ground, and curb stomped his face to the floor, crushing his skull. One more appeared from below, rushing towards Adams, while a fourth was on the higher railing with what appeared to be the outline of a Sniper Rifle.

“Sergeant!” cried out a familiar voice.

He was too dizzy to think, and his head burned like the fiery pits of hell. After collapsing to the ground, Adams almost shut his eyes closed for a quick nap. The first trooper ran over to him, shouted for him to stay awake in a feminine voice. She then began to apply stimpacks to his body in multiple wounded areas.

Distant sounds which sounded like chimes playing caught Adams attention; he smiled and laid his head back, staring into the light. His mind slowly calming down and enjoying the moment in his head.

His mind flashed of all the wonderful times in his life. From the moment he met Christine, the girl he had a crush on in his pre-teen years of training camp. His first medal. His first successful enemy kill. Getting promoted to Sergeant, and his new team smiling and having a great time a few days ago back at the mess hall of Outpost Eden.

“So… beautiful…” he whispered to the light.

Taking one last large breath, he slowly closed his eyes, and began to dream.

Yet another wonderful chapter. I can't wait for more.

By the way, Gutsy, if you are on anytime today, I would love to know what you think of my 2nd chapter. I'm not sure if it was well received.

You all get another chance to direct the story if you wish. Here's the next vote:

Shall Adam die, and a new commander take over? Or shall he live and continue on with being the leader of Echo squad?

I think you should keep him. To me if you kill him, it's like killing the story, he is the main character after all.

To be honest, I love character deaths, but it should be near the end, especially with leading characters. We've all come to know and love Adams, and killing him before the story runs its course, that would be bad. Now, if it were someone like Griffin or Jackson, that would be ok. It would add a very emotional touch. Not saying I want them to die, thats just my advice.

Here's the next chapter for all of your delight. I'm thinking of making a website about this and possible future stories for fans to vote and such on how it goes. It'll include updates, notes, and anything else that the fans may want. What do you all think? Good or bad idea?

Chapter 14
Forward Outpost AR-04 Medical Tent 08
December 22st, 2277
0430 Hours

Adam slowly walked over to Christine, the girl he has had a crush on for a few years now since meeting in Basic Training in his preteen years. His heart raced, while his body began to sweat. Her body was beautiful and in shape for a fifteen year old. Wonderfully soft black hair with stunning brown eyes.

"Christine? could I talk to you, alone?" he mumbled. She looked at him a bit confused, and nodded to him, leaving her group of friends in the mess hall.

"Yes, Adam?" she asked, worried.

"I've known you for three years now? and? I've had a crush on you ever since?" darting his eyes away from her, he was regretting even asking her to talk to him. "? and I would like to know if? you feel the same way?"

She studied him for a second with her eyes staring into his. After what felt like an eternity to Adam, she smiled and said "I knew it!" Giggling, she gave him a soft, gentle kiss on the cheek, and whispered "me too." Before walking off.

He smiled, and quickly walked off back to his bunk, cheering along the way.

Adams slowly awoke from his deep sleep. For the first time in many years, he could finally get a good nights rest free of nightmares and torment. Pain surged through his body with lighting efficiency. Struggling to sit up, he cursed out in agony. A nearby medic rushed over to him, pushed him back down on the bed and administered more pain-killers.

Lieutenant Pebbles softly sighed and stood up. Walking over to Adam, he patted him gently on the shoulder.

"You took one hell of a beating, Sergeant."

Adams voice was weak and soft, "I noticed? where's m-? my team?"

"Relax, they're safe. They're the ones who saved your crazy ass from that madman." Replied Pebbles carefully.

Adams slowly moved his head to the left, and noticed a vase with some roses in it, along with a make-shift Get Well card. He rolled his eyes back and laid his head down.

"I'm pretty sure I don't have to name who sent those flowers?" chuckled Pebbles.

"Can't you just kill me now?" cried out Adam.

Pebbles' smiled, and walked out of the tent. A few minutes later, Griffin and Simpson walked into the tent, followed by Jackson and White. Simpson moved over to Adams left and smiled, while Griffin and the rest were on the right.

"You okay there, Sergeant?" whispered Griffin gently.

"Yeah, I-? I'll pull through." Smiled Adams. He looked around the tent, mind still fuzzy of all the events that happened. "What happened after I fell?"

White moved forward, "Well, Sarge, you took a pretty big fall. We landed nearby and fought against 'em little evil things. I ain't knowing what you did, but you sure pissed them off. We then took care of you after those bastards tortured you. Hope came back around and airlifted your ass back here, and that's where we stayed eversince."

Adams frowned; his team's mission was canceled because of him, though they were able to finish off the leader at the very least. A nearby Vertibird flew close and over the tent, causing the walls to moved around a little while nearby debris twirled in the air. Griffin smiled at Adams, but quickly looked down and grunted, pushing off some debris that landed on her armor.

This caused Adams to laugh softly, making his insides hurt, but he still enjoyed it never the less.

"The Doctor said you should be able to walk around here in a day or so, sir." Smiled Simpson. She softly put her hand on his, and he sighed. Wishing she would stop this childish crush. Though there was a part of him that found it? amusing.

Jackson stood in the far back of the tent, and just listened in. He still hasn't said a word since the Behemoth fight that nearly killed him.

"We were worried?" whispered Jackson in his deep, masculine voice. This took everyone off by surprise. White and Simpson never heard him speak, while Griffin and Adam only heard him twice. They looked at him for a second, and nodded. Adams smiled slowly.

The tents door opened again, and the horrid smell of The Pitt roared in while the darkness outside full of pollution was all that you could see. Lieutenant Pebbles walked in with his brisk pace. Standing near the bed, he smirked and put his arms on his hips.

"While I enjoy this little love making process." He cut in. "The President would like to chat with you on a private comm channel, Sergeant."

Simpson rolled her eyes and stood up, walking out, before giving Adams one last wink. The rest followed her.

"You-, you're an [censored]." Grumbled Adams softly.

Pebbles did a quick laugh and set a nearby communication device on the table, turning it on, to bring in the Presidents' optimistic voice.

"Ah, I hear you're awake, Sergeant." Chimed in the President. "Good, I was worried a bit for your health. You my boy are my star soldier on the frontlines to rebuild America." He voice hinted a little bit emotional, though for a Machine it must have obviously been faked just to add some impact to Adams. "Now, I'm not sure if Pebbles has told you, but Operation Purge is still in effect. It's taking a lot to clean this hellish place."

Pebbles continued where the President left off. "While the leader is dead, a resistance among the slaves is forming. They're refusing to leave and attack our troops, believing we're ruining their chance for freedom while we've already set hundreds free. There's also what the locals call "Trogs", and some raiders left to deal with. Let alone the pollution that is very dangerous to the health of anyone prolonged here."

Adams nodded. "When do I go?" he questioned.

Pebbles frowned. "You're not going anywhere until the Doc' says so. You may be able to tomorrow at best, most likely not. Get your rest." He ordered.

"You may use whatever force is necessary, my good boy. The Slaves, Raiders, and Trogs are all your choice as to how to dispose of properly. The pollution is being worked on by our scientist teams." The President chirped in. "However, I must go. Take care."

Pebbles smiled, and was about to leave.

"Oh, one last thing. By the order of the President, you're promoted to Staff Sergeant now." He grinned, and walked out of the door.

Staff Sergeant, huh? This could be fun?

Loving it. Woot! Adam got a promotion, for falling out of a Vertibird. This chapter didn't have much to it, but it still grabbed me and I re read it, so good work. As for the website, I think it would be a great idea, I know plenty of people love this story, so that's why I think a website would be a good idea, my opinion.( can never spell that.)

Hi all! Just stopped by to link the site, it's very experimental now and may change a lot in the upcoming future. It has some difficulties but bear with me. http://sergeantgutsy.webs.com/ is the site. Feel free to make yourself a member there and comment on the forums, blog, or anything else with your opinions.

Once again, apologize if it's rather simple and weak, I'm not very great at making websites. Have a great day, all!

Chapter 15
Forward Outpost AR-04 Briefing Room
December 23rd, 2277
0905 Hours

Dozens of soldiers in their basic out-of-armor uniforms were sitting in rows of ten, chatting to one another. Suddenly, the door slammed open, and there stood Lieutenant Pebbles. Everyone quickly stood up at attention, and this caused Pebbles to smirk.

He surveyed the room, “At ease.”

They quickly sat back down and all eyes were on the Lieutenant. Staff Sergeant Adams sat in the front room, while his squad sat next to him. The Enclave’s out-of-armor uniform was a simple tan colored t-shirt, cargo pants, and combat boots. In the steel room, all of these tan colored soldiers looked like lines on a piece of paper—always the same space apart, same color, and same amount.

No one in the Enclave dared to defy their orders, so when a Lieutenant orders them all to report to the Briefing Room, they drop what they’re doing, and go.

Adams and his team was staying there because they were asked by Pebbles to join them to help coordinate an attack on the Trogs and possibly “The Resistance,” the name of the Slaves that are fighting against the Enclave for a misunderstood reason. They believed the Enclave was there to enslave them again, and did not believe that they were in fact there to help.

This annoyed Adams. Why would people be so stupid? The Enclave already set hundreds free from this [censored] hellhole. He himself watched them walk off into the distance from the hill when he was still in clutches from the wounds.

Pebbles began to speak.

“Welcome ladies and gentlemen. You have been called here for a planning of importance for the Enclave. A few days ago, we began Operation Purge with lighting efficiency and minimal casualties. Today, we’re going to do one last large sweep. They’re hurt, and almost completely wiped out. Our targets are the following: Trogs, Rebellious Slaves, Raiders, Slavers, and anyone else with intent of harming us.”

“Now, one of our more elite squad leaders is turning to us today to join us.” He turned and stared at Adams. “Staff Sergeant Adams was promoted for somehow falling out of his Vertibird during the assault.” Pebbles smiled at Adams, while the room had some laughs. White punched Adam on his shoulder, and Adam looked away, trying to hide his embarrassment.

“He’ll be taking his squad to attack the Trogs at the Steelyard.” Pebbles signaled Adams to stand up and come over.

Adams did as he was ordered to, and walked up to the stage. He stood in front of the dozens of troopers, most of them soldiers. He remembered a few years back when there was an even larger gathering, twice as big as this, purely of squad commanders. Now, this was all the Enclave had to spare after the god damned Brotherhood of Steel, Super Mutants, and that petty Lone Wanderer screwed everything up.

The thought of this enraged Adams whenever he thought about it. He took one deep breath and sighed.

“Echo, Foxtrot, and Omega squads will be under my command, and help us attack this large annoying area. Be forewarned; these creatures from hellish unknown areas may be weak and easy to kill, but they have pure numbers on their side. Possibly twenty to one trooper, maybe more.”

Some murmurs of disapproval rivaled through the crowed. Those odds weren’t that great. They’ve faced worse before and succeeded, but that was back when they had the men and woman to spare. If most of the team was wiped out, the Enclave would be forced to pull off any more operations and just defend for about twenty years until they could repopulate enough troops. This annoyed Adams, because he did not want to wait until his forties just to serve his country again.

“But we must take care of them now, before they spread. This infestation is dangerous levels already. If it continues, we’ll be forced to detonate a nuclear device in the city, ruining our chance to get the new factories and throws our new established relation with the people out the door.”

Adams’ sighed; he disliked giving out bad news. However, someone had to give the news like it was.

Pebbles stepped in. “If we start soon, we-“

He was cut off by an explosion that rocked the building. People quickly stood up and looked around. Loud, blaring sirens filled the air. It was an attack.

Without thinking about it, Adams grabbed Pebbles and lured him out of the building. His team providing a wall around him in case they were shot at. They crammed by all the soldiers rushing out of the doors, to await the horrors next.

The pitch black sky was filled with laser fire in all directions and mortars flying down upon Forward Outpost AR-04. Three troopers ran past them and ran towards the barracks. Before they could reach it, a mortar slammed near them and blew them into bits of gore.

“Where the [censored] are they getting mortars from, Sarge?!” screamed Simpson over the loud sounds filling the air.

“How the hell am I supposed to know?” replied Adams quickly.

They moved quickly, avoiding laser fire. They brought Pebbles to a Vertibird pad, and he quickly signaled Hope to start up their engines. Hope’s engines wailed loudly, blasting a gust of dirt and sand in a large circle around the ‘bird. Adams quickly shielded his eyes. The door made a deafening hissing sound, and then popped open.

Pebbles rushed in, and two nearby troopers went inside as well as his guard detail.

They Vertibird took off, and flew off back towards Outpost Eden.

Two nearby Vertibirds flew past, and over the Forward Outpost, their lasers blazing. Suddenly, the two of them light up in a ball of flame out of no where. Many blue laser beams sliced right through their hulls with extreme ease and caused them to explode.

“What the hell was that?” cried Griffin.

A loud, thumping noise was heard. Nearby soldiers turned and ran.

“God damnit, stand your ground!” shouted Adams.

It was no use, they continued to run, shouting for others to retreat.

More blue lasers sliced through the air from darkness, and sliced three nearby soldiers into pieces from their Power Armor, so fast they couldn’t even cry out.

“Sergeant…” whispered White.

“What?” barked Adams. He was extremely annoyed. He looked towards the direction White was pointing, and his jaw dropped.

“COMMUNISM IS A TEMPORARY SETBACK ON THE ROAD TO FREEDOM!” Shrieked a loud, metallic voice that roared through the air.
