Doesn't matter, I'd rather them speak with an ancient inspired accent than a Modern American one. America has been around for 250 years and doesn't belong in any kind of accent setting game like Elder Scrolls. You simply cannot plant a modern thing just because your modern world currently revolves around it.

Bethesda can do that if they feel like it.

They can do whatever the [censored] they want with the game. They created it.

They can choose to make TES VI take place in a group home in the Bronx, and have it follow the story of a drug addict on his way to work at a Pepsi delivery plant.

It's my opinion, get over it. You guys need to chill out and stop thinking I'm attacking something for my own selfish reasons.

Your opinion that they "don't fit" is fine. I was commenting on your knowledge of modern and historical accents.

I haven't been proven wrong because it's my opinion and I've said that I have American friends who feel the same way. What next, are you going to call me racist? If I was to say I don't think black people look right in snowy cities, oh I bet that would cause a right storm in a teapot.

Troll. Thread over. Bye.

you saying that you dont like the american accents in game is your opinion.
Saying they are un-authentic requires factual information to back it up.

see how that works?

No, you have been proven wrong. Your opinion is that they shouldn't have American accents. That's an opinion. Your reasoning is the accent is modern and European accents are older. Your reasoning is wrong. All accents are modern.

Aragorn was American

Viggo Mortensen was born of a Danish father, and grew up in Denmark and Argentina..
Not that it matters much in this discussion.

Yes, I'm sure people would love to see people in the towns wearing FCKU clothes and Nike trainers. it would fit perfectly in Bethesa's idea of Skyrim America.

I personally wish there were more "American" accents. I'm so sick of [censored] faux Nowegian's in this game I could almost (almost, but not quite) go back to playing Reach again.

Why did Bethesda have to kill the immersion by using American voice actors? One of the biggest immersion killers with RPG is the fact that such games use modern American voice actors and accents and it sounds terrible. NO offence against the American accent but it just doesn't fit such RPG style games and the accent is too new.

Out of all of the voice actors in the world they pick American's and the kids in this game sound like today's America. The Witcher 2 and Gothic 2 are hardly perfect either but Elder Scrolls is terrible in this respect. It's just amazing how such game developers think American accents are normal in such a game and I've even heard accents that sound straight from New York. Can you not find trained American voice actors who can make their accent not so harsh? Clearly not.

This Amnerican agrees with you. I don't need a Jarl or Daedra god that sounds like he's from fricken Sacramento, California.

Bioware does this much better limiting the American accent to Dwarves and City Elves.

so wait. if we use the logic youre trying to use for your side
did europe at some point actually have dragons, trolls, giants, cat people, lizard men, various elf races, magic portals and so on?

it is a ridiculous notion that in fantasy old world accents have to be the prroper accent for ever and ever and always and ever.
just because their setting has some similarities with our worlds past, doesnt mean they take place in the past in the slightest.
There are essentially inteligent robots in game. While we may have had simple "robots" dating a millenium here on earth, the complexity of the ones shown in game are more advanced than what we currently have in modern times. Now what?

you dont hear me complaining that the Imperial officers in star wars have brittish accents, do you?

I haven't been proven wrong, they just disagree with me and some people agree with me. Language is only modern because people have made it modern, it doesn't stop other people around the world speaking or doing ancient things or speaking ancient ways. It's called voice acting, don't know if you've ever heard of this, where people change their voice or accent to suit the time or era.

But that would never happen because the reasoning for having American voice actors (and the English language as well) is different than any sort of reasoning you would have for adding modern name brand things.

The English language and accents are used because of the player base, and where the company is located. I don't see how that reasoning would follow to adding other modern day things.

Thank you!

i mean, since there are modern british accents, would it be logical for me to suggest that there might as well be a cadbury factory, or that the NPC's regularly use spotify?

Boy, you don't get it at all. No actor does a non-modern accent! What don't you get about this. Nobody changes their accent to suit Shakespeare because if Shakespeare was performed in the English accent of the time you would not understand it in the least.
