Ammo troubles

Post » Mon Nov 30, 2015 8:08 pm

Anyone else having trouble with ammo shortages? I have 2 ranks in the Scrounger perk, i use .38 .45 and 10mm ammo, Automatic weapons, and I'm constantly running out of ammo, which is now making me run out of money.

I was sticking to around 3 guns, but I was running out of ammo way too fast. I'm only playing on normal difficulty too. I carry 6 different guns that use 6 different ammunition types. It's made situations a lot less scarce. :)

Really? I figured using more ammo types would make it worse. I have to sell any ammo type i dont use so that I can buy more of the kind I do use. I'll try getting more guns n see how it goes.

And lowering difficulty isnt gonna happen.

I think "automatic" is your main issue. Why not perk into pistols as well? Give yourself something that doesn't expend as much ammo.

It definitely helps because as you stick with one gun, you're accumulating more ammo for other types of guns. Assuming you don't sell them.

The one draw back I'm finding is that the more guns I carry and more specifically, modify, the more weight is taken up. A good trick I use is putting 2 points into the lone wanderer perk. So if I ever am over-encumbered, I dismiss my companion and gain an additional 100 in carrying weight.

The problem is we don't know what you are doing wrong. Are you just wandering around in the wilds hoseing off in the general direction of whatever wildlife you see? Are you useing short range guns for sniping, or long sniper rifles indoors? Are you looting everything in sight or are you overlooking things because you don't realise it's a lootable container, or do you stop looting because your overweight and move on?

I do missions and usually my ammo lasts for that last, or right before its over cuz at some point I'll run out. Then I go restock my ammo the best I can at vendors. I've modded my weapons to do more damage and have more accuracy so it'll cut down on how much ammo is used. I'm not using guns the wrong way either. And I loot everything, have couple Lockpick and Scrounger ranks.

I'm playing on normal but only logged about 15hours so far... I have not had too much trouble with ammo... Use a double-barrel shotgun, 10mm pistol and the musket laser... I did run out of energy cells for the laser so crafted a pipe rifle... Because I have just been picking up ammo without thinking I have over 700 rounds for it... 10mm about 100 and the shotgun about 30 or so...

I'm having more trouble finding decent armour... Still in the Vault suit...

I've still been using the 10mm Pistol from the Vault, and while I have had times where my ammo for it was low, I've never actually run out. However, I have planned for a possible scarcity of 10mm ammo, and keep a modded Pipe Pistol on hand just in case. I probably have at least 1000 rounds or more for it, since the Raiders around the upper left corner of the map use them so much, so if I ever run out of 10mm ammo, I'm set.

.38 is pretty common is that pipe gun ammo? i have 2500 never used them. My .45 are in a semi auto combat rifle. .308 in a sniper rifle and 10 mm I don't use but do carry an upgraded 10 mm. My .556 Assault rifle I don't use due to lack of ammo and that guys magnum I don't use yet for ammo reasons. I went for power upgrades in the combat rifle over making it automatic.

I haven't ran out, though I've been a bit nervous from time to time. I don't sell any ammo just in case..yes I'm kinda a hoarder about it all. I use 3 different types of weapons with 3 different types of ammo. I don't use any kind of automatic. I'm a rifle/shotgun/pistol sorta gal.

I do buy ammo when ever I run into a trader, mostly making caps by selling raider armor.

You basicaly need to hold on to ammo, selling ammo should be something you just don't do,early on, always keep one gun for each ammo type early on,and try to have one of each of the following types

Shot gun
Automatic handgun
High damage low rate of fire revolver type
Mid range rifle
Scoped rifle for stand off damage.

Regardless however grenades are a lot more useful this time around, ive used land mines probably more than I should.... But land mines off of catwalk ....

I usually snipe from a distance, to get the 2x multiplier and soften them up first.. meat shield followers help too.. and continue sniping.. then shotgun/plasma/laser for slower fire/high DAM

I converted all my weapons to rifle recievers to get more damage per shot to conserve ammo, automatic just doesn't work in this game...

No, save *all* the ammo you come across. You never know when you will hit a dry spell for your favorite ammo, and need something special. For example, I ran into an area filled with heavily armed troops with robot support. Even a six crank musket head shot barely dented one of the critters health. After I died repeatedly I tried something different. I got out a rocket launcher, and 3 missiles later I was dancing on their still smoldering corpses.

Also, you might find a unique weapon that is neat to use. For example, I found a 10mm gun that added in energy damage and could liquefy my enemies. I wanted to take out a thermos and scoop some of them into it, so I could remember the occasion. (Must be watching to much archer)

I was always low on ammo so I added to luck, took the scrounger perks (2 levels) and luckily found a combat rifle. Now I've a nice stockpile building up, one reason I found myself low of ammo was because I was mostly finding .50 cal ammo and I had not found (and couldn't convert) any weapon that used .50 cal.

Well im using automatic weapons. Made my 10mm an auto as well. Maybe im just spitting out too many bullets, sounds like everyone here uses rifles or pistols. Im not gonna change the type of weapons i use tho. And i pick up every ammo type from every building i go in. And ive only sold the ammo of guns that i dont have or dont use. I dont use snipers, so i sell my .308 and .50. I always keep my combat shotgun and minigun on me just in case i really need them.

Im clueless, im playing on hard and I am swimming in ammo.

Probably the automatics that cause u the problems. Automatic ammo does much less damage than non automatic.

Auto weapons are the major problem, after i stop using them, and started using normal rifles, it got A LOT better.

I keep a knife in my boot. For those times when ammo is scarce or your opponent isn't worth a bullet.

I don't have a single automatic weapon, other than a minigun that is just collecting dust in some drawer. I use a variety of weapons, with different ammo types, and each have different roles. I mod my weapons for highest damage possible all the time, along with accuracy. I use a fast firing shotgun instead of an automatic up close, since I get more oomph per shell / bullet. Switching weapons depending on range and enviroment, allows mixing it up, and makes ammo stretch that further.

However, I wish there will come ammo making again, so I can focus solely on fewer types of weapons. They do tend to weigh a lot :D

Only .44 Magnum and 5.56mm rounds seem hard to find for my play through. I don't get to use my Assault rifle as much as I would like because of the lack of ammo for that gun. Been getting by on the sniper rifle and the Deliverer. The shotgun helped me a lot in early levels too. So I only use the Assault Rifle if a Deathclaw or a high ranking super mutant get inside sniping distance.
