UI and the game

Post » Sun Jul 04, 2010 8:02 pm

Good day everyone.

I just looked at the pictures and noticed something that should never be in any game. What is that you might ask.
Well! Its a horrible UI. When you create a UI you want it to be easy to use then after that you want it to show the data the players want to know, it should show as much as possible on as little space as possible and THEN you can add the "bling bling". Sadly it look like the first thing you were thinking about was "How can we make the UI look cool?" instead of "How can we make the UI easy to use?"

So my suggestion is. Scrap the entire UI right at this moment when there is still time. Make it show them in tables with columns and rows.

[Skill] [#]
[Skill] [#]
[Skill] [#]

(you get the point)

Not:

[Skill] [Skill] [Skill] [Skill] [Skill]

i think you are kinda overreacting

but it did worry me a little that skills are assorted horizontally when it is much easier to scroll through them when sorted vertically

If the UI remains like the picture we have seen it will be a disaster for Pc players. I hope it will be customizable in the final release.

True, but I think we've seen nothing so far, and we can't really tell from one little picture how it's going to be when playing. I trust Bethesda knows how to make UIs that look good AND are perfectly logical and easy to use.

this is my only concern, seems worse than oblivions..i'm gonna be shuffling through 3-4 pages of just skills instead of having them listed in a small 5x5 square.

we aren't all playing at low rez (cough xbox)

Overreacting?
You dont want to see me get annoyed then ^^ anyway. The ui is BAD the way they have showed it. Its like the person that made the UI skipped out the the classes on how to create a good UI and then only showed up when they talked about the "bling bling".

I dont even want to see the inventory if they cant even make something like the skill UI correctly. If i see the inventory im afraid i might endup with nightmares.

Morrowind had the best UI I've seen in any Bethesda RPG. Oblivion's UI was a huge step back, I hope they can make something better than Morrowind's UI.

If i have to change something with the morrowind UI it would be the spell selection system, debuffs/buffs and how they show up and a easier way to know how and where to equip items instead of just clicking on them and getting a orange box around it.

Then after that you can add some bling to it.
