And this, kids, is why you never give an amulet to a monk

Think about it for a moment. If Jaufree had hid the amulet better and maybe got some of his Blades to guard it, Martin could've lit the dragonfires the normal way and the Empire wouldn't have had to withdraw all its troops from the other provinces. This'd mean the Empire wouldn't have collapsed nearly as quickly, if at all. The Great War and all of that could've been avoided if Jaufree had been at all careful. Or, you know, they could've sent the amulet to the home of the Blades.

Speaking of Blades, the Emperor could've survived if there were a couple more Blades with him.

I've always thought that Oblivion was a childish game... :P

Here's a quote from an http://www.imperial-library.info/ForumArchives/Amulet_of_Kings.htm by user "featherbrain" in 2006 I feel is kinda relevant:

We never could tell until now if Talos was messing with matters, if Talos was even real, and which side of the Akatosh-Shezarr tangle - if any - had blessed his empire's heritage. Then Aka shows up and holds the Septim line to their word, for the first time, with violent consequences.

Uriel the Oracle knew that "a doom" was across the land. But it wasn't just the princes of Misrule pronouncing it: Akatosh birthed the Amulet from void, and to void returned it.

I like this thought.

but think of all the Adventure's we had. so what if Jaufree is single handedly responsible for the fall of the empire and the beginning of a Tamrielic Dark age mix with a cold war with the Thalmor, not to mention all the death that could have been avoided by said events. but on the other hand ADVENTURE!

Jauffre was more than capable enough. He's not superman, but he's a well trained and experienced soldier and scholar. Nobody is perfect. And, besides, like others have said maybe Akatosh was just ready for a change in the status quo.
