Graphics are really only bad on the console.

On the PC you can scale it above and beyond what the original game came with thanks to mods.

The game looks gorgeous on my Xbox 360.

No i haven't that's why i said that. Leave the graphics as they are, there is no way in improving them on whole. Without suffering from said mod failing in little aspects, and making the game look like a children's coloring book. The graphics in Skyrim on PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 are fantastic and the theme is spot on, no need to fix something if it isn't broke.

lol? yes there is

high rez textures
more lighting effects
sharpening
bigger LOD
better shadows
better water effects

the only reason you wouldn't do this if your pc was capable was if you hate good graphics

i personally think skyrim looks amazing but its crazy what a simple FXAA injector can do. same goes for high rez textures and water effects. the one graphical thing i hate most about skyrim is shadows, on ultra they still look alot worse than oblivion i don't get it. they must be bugged or something. absolutely horrible 5 years old looking.

Im confused.

Why are PS3 shots always so damn bright? And do shadows not render on PS3?

As someone else already said, visual aesthetic is separate from graphics. Yes, it's a visually impressive game, no, it does not have good, or at least not impressive for 2011, graphics.

If you look at the big picture, Skyrim looks nice. If you look at the details, not so much. Compare a close up of some clutter in Skyrim to say, something similar in Metro 2033 or something, you will notice an extreme gap in detail. It's lighting and many other effects will also be much rougher.

yup, they claim it looks so much more amazing on PC, but they see a screen shot for a console and think its from a PC, they cant tell the difference

I play on Xbox and I can definitely tell the difference between console and PS3. It actually looks worse than Xbox (unbiased, I have both consoles and play them equally), the shadows don't even render!

This is what the game can look like with modifications. It is not just that PC looks better, but the potential for it look many times better than a console makes it the obvious choice when you have the rig to play it on. It is not that console version looks bad by its own, but it pales in comparison to the PC version, both stock and modified. And if we are talking about graphics, Skyrim is bad. When you talk graphics you're talking about the more technical side of things. From OP's screenshot, we can tell just how outdated both the consoles and engine is. That is a fact, you cannot deny that. When we talk aesthetics, it is always subjective and therefore there can be no uniformed agreement. For example you can saw how I overused sharpen in my game, and how grainy it feels. Yet I enjoy the sharpening and I think it looks good.

Try this on the PC, when a dragon failed to load. Tell me if the link works or not.

That looks horrendous, i hate the post processing injector. it really doesnt do anything but make skyrim more colorful or "saturated". it takes me from the gloom cold immersive feeling skyrim is supposed to be, to a colorful wonderland

Score one for console users!

What exactly did you win to get this "score" :blush2: ? On max aa/af/rez the PC version looks better. Not alot better, just better. This isn't an onion, its a fact. Also there are several texture mods out, and shadow fixes, and other effects. It just looks better.

But the kicker is it runs at very high fps, while the console version runs at 30 and sometimes stutters for much less.

In the end yes they look somewhat similiar and both look great > until you play them BOTH, and even then its not a "HUGE" gap, but there is a gap. The big difference lies in the performance and graphics of distant objects.

Haha yeah this happened to me too with Mirmulnir, he stayed that way until he died and then his proper textures finally popped in the moment he died. It was a one time thing for me, and I'm not sure if the 4GB launcher fixed it, but I've never had it happen since.

No. the Default game looks better; this is a fact. But its only by a minor amount due to the game being made for consoles and not having high-rez textures.

But this will change soon, there already is several mods that make it look much better :toughninja:

I never said Skyrim graphics look good at all. I said the PC version looks better than the consoles, both vanilla and with modifications. Go see a comparison video and if you still say minimal difference then there is no point talking about this anymore. If you can't see the difference of better texture, actually having shadow rendered, etc, then who cares if a game's graphics good at all?

Here are some screens using the FXAA post-processing mod.

It adds a subtle but very significant improvement to the quality of the image. I'm using Preset 1, which adds some sharpness and saturation to the game. There are other presets if you just want to add color depth and not sharpness, etc.

Will add a few more seconds to loading screens, but not a big deal tbh.

I'm running the game on standard high settings, NO FXAA, only 8x AA/AF @ 1920x1080 (I did turn shadows to medium though, instead of high for better FPS). So these are not maxed out settings at all.

I highly recommend it if the washed out colors are bothering you, or if you want to add some crispness and depth to the textures. I like that the mod has an enable/disable function bind to your Pause/Break key. It really shows you how much of a difference it makes.

thats fine, i will gladly say most games look better by a MINOR amount, but too many PC users oversell it saying its FAR superior. the only reason i dont play PC is at the moment i dont think a such a minor difference is worth 2x-3x the price. also i like being able to party chat on the 360 with friends and talking about the shenanigans were having in skyrim.

This is exactly what I was saying on my post. The point of my screenshot is to show the potential modifications you can do on a PC and not on a console. Whether you like my own taste is not the point. You can keep it at vanilla if that is your preference, but you are also allowed to change to look the way you want it to be. What if you want it to look like Borderlands? You can. Many people don't get the PC version solely for its vanilla experience, but the ability to personalize your RPG experience the way you like it. I spent many hours just changing the looks while enjoying the view and I had a blast doing that.
